The Associated Press reports from SEOUL, South Korea:
Angry South Koreans slammed Chinese fishermen as "pirates" Tuesday, while President Lee Myung-bak vowed to spend more on policing the country's waters after a Chinese boat captain allegedly stabbed a coast guard officer to death.
During a protest at the Chinese Embassy in Seoul, a right-wing demonstrator rammed his SUV three times into a police bus guarding the building while others defaced a Chinese flag. A popular South Korean Internet post called for the shelling of illegal Chinese fishing boats.
The anger came a day after officials said the Chinese captain of a boat suspected of illegally fishing in South Korean waters killed one coast guard officer and wounded another. Continue reading.

The problem will only get worse, as China's population gets bigger. The growing population in China will keep on demanding more food. South Korea's fishing grounds is in the cross hairs China's demand for food.
Eric - Agreed. As population is drawn away from the rural farms & into coastal cities, the seaside demand for food continues to escalate. This has been going on for many years, but has really taken off the last decade.
I see China declaring "sovereignty" or some other crap, in order to seize control of the entire arena at some point. Like the Euro Zone, they will form a South East Asian Zone, giving them rights to operate with impunity within the zone.
concernedone- I've been thinking the same thing.
Its just a matter of time before the entire region boils over into a full blown war, either South Korea and North Korea and China involvement also. Yeah big corporate in the US just keep investing in China and see what happens someday! They will have a better chance of hitting Lotto twice in one week than get their investments back!
Na, they'll get used to it, just like the Mexicans did.
Jim, The American Corporate investment in China is minimal and that is one reason why it is so attractive. In many cases the Chinese elite built the factories that produce the goods. This creates a win win for the Chinese and U.S. corporations. Also good for the landfill owners in the U.S., I might also add.
A war in Asia or any part of the world would just have our Defense Industry rubbing their chubby little hands in anticipation of the coming profits. Additionally there would be little negative political feedback, as this time, they wouldn´t be sending our young men and women to die.
Have you ever been so angry that you chewed another countries flag apart with your teeth?
Yeah, me neither...
I believe Jon Huntsman knows China best and they do not have a morality system like we do. China exploits morals as weaknesses and has a Star Trek Borg way of thinking. They see the US and the West and its allies as weak, sappy, short term thinkers who deserve to be manipulated and over-run by their superior long term vision devoid of mutual respect. They will rule the world and destroy it all in one tai chi like motion.
This is insane. I cannot believe Chinese citizens are actually supporting this criminal and miscreant. Why did China bother to sign an agreement with South Korea about Yellow Sea demarcations and EEZs in 2001, if it cannot enforce the rules? It is NOT enough to "try hard" to educate the fishermen about the violations. Where is the punishment? the consequences that will further deter this kind of ruthless disgusting action?
Unfortunately for China, this news has already spread and the international community is not looking favorably at the Chinese side. Would China like it if other nations nonchalantly permitted fishing trawlers to cross into its own EEZ? Sure, I feel bad that Chinese waters are pretty much depleted of their cashable resources because of pollution and overfishing. But that doesn't give it right to basically steal other nations' resources. Take a look at the map. they are so close to the South Korean shore.
Everyone can plainly see who is in the wrong here.
I feel very sorry for the slain South Korean coastguard's family. Such a terrible terrible loss.
