AP reports:

SALT LAKE CITY — A truck driver who won a $380,000 Lamborghini in a convenience store contest crashed the sports car six hours after he got it, and he now plans to sell the 640-horsepower convertible because he can't afford the insurance or taxes.

"I already had offers on it. I'm going to sell it," David Dopp said Wednesday. "I have bills more important than a Lamborghini. I've got a family to support."

I wonder if the after crash value will even cover the taxes he already owes on it. A young lady in my city won a 300,000 dollar car and of course the taxes on her winnings was in excess of 100,000 dollars. No one was about to loan her that kind of money against the car because she could not even make the first payment on her income. Some KC millionaire had mercy on her and bought the car for what she owed in taxes on it. They got an exotic car for a fraction of the value and the IRS got their booty. But she had not wrecked the car either.

How does the tax thing work? Can't she just sell it for the 300k it is worth then pay the 100k in taxes and pocket the 200k? Yeah, that millionaire is a real saint.

I hear there's a huge drop in resale value once you drive it off the lot . . . and into a tree.
