msnbc.com news services report:

A Filipino woman tenderly caressed her five-day-old daughter on Thursday as she recounted how she had given birth on the roof of a submerged medical clinic at the height of the storm and floods that killed more than 1,000 people.

Annaliza Tumanda said she, her husband and three children — aged 3 to 8 — swam from their destroyed home in Cagayan de Oro to a neighbor's three-story house. She went into labor on Saturday morning and was brought by rescuers to the roof of a health center, where she gave birth to a healthy 6.6 pound baby.

"With God's will, we survived," she said. "It was like a miracle."

Kiki,

What "term" would YOU use to describe what happened? Give God some praise, O.K.? Without Him, all of them would be dead now from the flood. The fact that they were able to make it from their house to that roof AND the mother able to deliver a baby AT ALL-healthy or otherwise-is nothing short of a miracle from God. The same grace that brought that baby into the world is the same grace that woke you up this morning kiki. Please don't ever forget that.

"With God's will, we survived," she said. "It was like a miracle."

Then god gets the 'credit' for all those who died. Thats whats perverse about statements like this. It would seem that god 'could' have save the 1000, but chose not to. How sick is that. What a beast. Good thing hes imaginary.

Take your negativity elsewhere Mr! How dare you call God a beast?! You have no understanding whatsoever of who God is! He is NOT imaginary, He is real and He exists in everything. People like you troll through articles looking for any chance to impose your negativity and non-beliefs upon people and quite frankly, its pathetic!

@chris-5thape Why would God take credit for 1000 dead people?

This is how many religuos people see things. God=good, happy things, survival etc. Satan=evil/bad things, murder death kill. That's just how they intrepret things. Just let them be.

abiel4real - Have you *read* the bible? How many babies did god kill in his mythical food? How many unborn? Read Exodus 21 or Numbers 31 and get back to me. Thy mythical god described in those pages is a beast.

    whoa tunsilk!

you completely misunderstood my point. my meaning was: now we can't even use the word miracle w/o putting quotation marks around it-it might offend someone.

i know the faithful are under attack, but be careful next time. i'll take my apology now.

What is that miracle stuff? Has not a thing to do with a miracle. When baby wants to come out - guess what - it comes out. No miracle at all. Bing, bang, bum, another mouth to feed.

No you come on Kiki. "Miracles do happen! Sorry YOUR world is soooooooooooo dry, perhaps without REAL genuine warmth and love! My world and many other people have a capacity to believe and celebrate those things that are not ALWAYS easily explained through scientific theories! Whats wrong with believing in a miracle, especially doing this DIFFICULT season for many! Laugh at your UNFUNNY, personality during this season of "MIRACLES"!

I agree, I feel sorry for people who have nothing better to do than to make fun of others beliefs. What negative lives they live. It is a "miracle" that they were able to overcome so much adversity, and a precious baby was born in the midst of so much destruction! I pray that the baby has a long successful life.

Kiki was laughing at the fact that there were quotation marks around the word "miracle", not the miracle itself. Kiki's point was that nowadays, people get waaaayyyy too tense and conservative when someone says words like miracle and God, in fact so tense that the word miracle was in between to quotation marks. Flying commas as I like to call them :]

What's miraculous? Women have been crapping kids out in miserable conditions since antiquity... Sheltered bunch thinking that environmentally sterile hospital deliveries are the "norm" for our species.

Absolutely incredible! The swim alone must have been beyond difficult for a woman that far along in her pregnancy. And to then be able to give birth to a healthy baby under such stress. How wonderful that both mom and baby made it through such a terrible time with their family all together.

              Mr. Buchanan,

The same goes for you as well as kiki. We are ALL here by God's grace. Period. Every day is a miracle, whether you are alive to see it or not. The fact that you are alive to type any response AT ALL is a miracle. Be thankful for that and have a great day.

humans can perform seemingly impossible tasks when motivated...if religion motivated that mom, then that's fabulous...humans benefit from a compelling reason to succeed & some people have made intolerance a source of their own inspiration, despite the negative impact intolerance has on their ability to form a positive outlook on life...such a waste of human potential & lack of knowledge of how to get the best & biggest bang out of the body
