No doubt about it! These rightwing nut job morons have identified Obama as "evil". This photo proves it!
THIS photo proves it? Proves WHAT? That "brilliant" Obama supporters can't even leave their comments under the correct picture. I guess you can't fix stupid. Here's a Happy New Year thought for one & all.......................
NOBAMA2012
Wow, here come the hyper-partisans. This is disgraceful. You are both a shame.
Got to admit that looks so cool .........
It is really beautiful. Leaving aside our political differences China has a great culture and Art is is part of them.
Beautiful light display! Looks like a giant Lego display in China's very own Disney World.
Alsbeth ~ Did you mean to post your comment on the photo of Obama with the baby?
The size of these sculptures is unbelievable. They are incredible to look at. Take a look at the link for the pictures from last year. Some incredible shots. I noticed that the caption on the photo above says this is the 13t festival, yet the first of the pictures from last year identify them as from the 27th festival. I wonder which is correct, is this year really the 28th or was last year he 11th. Oh well, I guess it does not really matter too much and I should have come to expect errors like this from MSNBC by now.
Really cool
Excellent art work for those who crafted them. Behind the art work lies a country that is a superpower want to be. With uneven socio-economic growth, horrible environmental records, long history of human rights violations, and political corruptions, I just don't see the glory of the event, even on the face of it.
wow
Creative.....I love it!!!!!!!!
It's incredible how hate can completely blind people, on all levels. If this photo was taken in back-woods Tennessee, some people would be saying "Woa, dat's da most pretty ting I eveh seen!". You put the label "China" on it and immediately a wall is put up that there is nothing in the picture that is beautiful. People should appreciate beauty wherever & whenever it is found.
China has a pretty large talent pool, I recon!
The pics are great just wish for more
Very Awesome. Art is universal. Too bad we don't have similar here in the US. No profit in it I guess.
You got it.
It feels like we're still stuck in the middle of the twentieth century here while the rest of the world just zips right by us.
actually there are a variety of similar events held in the US annually - although only some years include anything even approaching this year's Harbin shows.
The wiki article doesn't show pictures for most of the really big castles that have been built over the years, but it gives you an idea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul_Winter_Carnival
were these ice sculptures made from the the third of chinese fresh water that is drinkable, the third that can be used commercially, or the third that is so polluted it had no use?
those sculptures aren't bright colors from lights. Just like the beautiful sunsets over New York City are due to smog.
If you think NYC has EVER had a beautiful sunset, then you need to get out of town more.
im from eastern li
Harbin is a cold, cold place. Awesome sculpts!!
It may be Art, It may be Beautiful; but this leaves me cold. Must be the eerie blending of all those colors. I love cold weather, I love outdoor sports but walking through the Aurora Borealis brought to Earth would make me dizzy.
Actually there is a ice display every year at the Gaylord Texas resort in Dallas. I realize it is not the same size as this display which appears to be several acres. I think both are unique quite beautiful.
How do you walk on this ice without falling on your arse? Seriously!
JS in SD look at your math & then tell us about MSNBC, so you think think last year was the 11th yet this year is the 13th, i guess you can work for MSNBC. what is that throw rocks in glass house.
I had the same question.
I am thinking they heat the surface slightly, and embed something granular on it, so you dont slip onto your keyster.
While living in China I had always wanted to visit Harbin during the Ice Show days but never got the chance. I was thinking this would be as spectacular as seeing the Great Wall. As for the lights being added I figured it was just a matter of time since almost everything in China as well as most of Southeast Asia is lit up in some kind of lighting. I mean I currently live in Thailand and walking around at night time one would think it was Christmas year round.
As for the US having Ice shows perhaps you should get out more often as they are all around. I remember going skiing in Breckenridge Colorado many times where there were sculptures lining the entire main street. And did you know that the World Art Championships are held every year in Alaska?
