Rescuers work near an overturned Russian-made Tupolev 134 passenger jet at the airfield outside Osh on Dec. 28. The packed TU-134 flipped over and caught fire on landing in the southern Kyrgyz city today injuring at least six people, officials and witnesses said.

Amazing that all the passengers survived.

AP reports:

The Kyrgyz government says that 31 people have been injured in the crash-landing of a passenger jet.

Kyrgyzstan's Health Ministry said the Soviet-built Tu-134 jet was carrying 95 passengers and six crew when it crash-landed in deep fog Wednesday at the airport of the southern city of Osh.

Emergency Situations Minister Kubatbek Boronov said the plane flying from the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek was damaged when it made a rough landing in Osh. He didn't elaborate, but eyewitnesses said the jet rolled off the runway, broke its wing, overturned and caught fire.

Boronov said that 17 of the 31 injured were hospitalized.

The Tu-134 is a two-engine jet that has remained in service with many post-Soviet carriers.

Good news that all survived. Did anyone notice the plane's colors are red, white and blue?

Red white and blue are the most common flag colours. France, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, the Netherlands, Chile, Cuba, Liberia, Paraguay, etc all use those colours.

So no surprise there, and nothing to notice.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Any landing after which you can use the plane for another flight is a GREAT landing.

In Soviet Russia, plane drops you

That was bad, but I'm glad everyone survived even if they did get a little crispy 'round the edges.

Who would want to ride in a Chinese-built aircraft? Would you buy it at Wal-Mart?

                It was Bush's fault.

I think in this case the landing gear was installed upside down at the factory and the plane was coming in for a normal landing when the low lift to weight ratio caused the plane to crash because the wings were actually pointing up and not down, no doubt built that way as a patriotic salute to the communist party.

Guess landing upside down isn't good in Russia either.

Ruken: To answer your question as to why everything wrong seems to be, Russian. Have you ever traveled to Russia or the Ukraine? I have, and I can tell you that, they are at least 50-70 years behind us here in the U.S.A. and other developed countries in every walk-of-life. They still use much equipment from WW-ll and the Cold-War with no oversight or quality control.

Hey mossfleet, the us military had the same question 20 years ago, until they realized that vacuum tube based electrical systems did not care about EMP! The older MIG's could fly through a nuke blast. The planes electrical s would keep on working. The pilot, not so much.

Sure there is some old gear but a lot of high technology also. The only two self sufficient countries in the world after WWII were the US and USSR which had the needed resources to build everything they needed, with their own support industries in chemicals, biological, electronics, aircraft, food production, consumer products, computers, automobile and heavy equipment, space programs etc. How can you saw they had such lower outdated technology....who still has the only heavy lift access to space that NASA and dozens of other countries us, or the highest rated computer science programs in universities? Check out the winners of IBM sponsored Programming Olympics where Russian universities have done far better than any and all US universities which entered teams.

You might have been a visitor but as an engineer, an American and living full time in Russia for years, I think you are sadly misinformed.

I'll second that Am-expat. I am presently working a project (via e-mails and data transfer sites) with three engineers in Kyiv. I can tell you all three know what they're doing, and do it well!
