Amazing that all the passengers survived.

AP reports:

The Kyrgyz government says that 31 people have been injured in the crash-landing of a passenger jet.

Kyrgyzstan's Health Ministry said the Soviet-built Tu-134 jet was carrying 95 passengers and six crew when it crash-landed in deep fog Wednesday at the airport of the southern city of Osh.

Emergency Situations Minister Kubatbek Boronov said the plane flying from the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek was damaged when it made a rough landing in Osh. He didn't elaborate, but eyewitnesses said the jet rolled off the runway, broke its wing, overturned and caught fire.

Boronov said that 17 of the 31 injured were hospitalized.

The Tu-134 is a two-engine jet that has remained in service with many post-Soviet carriers.

I have a question that a cursory reading of comments has not shown: Why was the aircraft trying to land in "deep fog?" I interpret that term to mean physically deep (as in several hundred feet deep or more), with severely restricted visibility (perhaps less than 1/4 to 1/2 mile), perhaps at or below airport minimums. Depending on airport equipment and/or aircraft instrumentation, it would/should have been foolhardy to attempt landing under such conditions. Does anybody know about either the airport or the TU-134 instrumentation?

Maybe they flew through the heavy fog and the pilot tried landing it to wait for a better time to travel? Or he could've just gotten disoriented in the fog and the runway came up faster than he expected? Who knows.

I would think the atheistic country of Russia would change their mind about no belief in a supreme being because that is the only thing that could have saved all those people from death.

What atheistic country? They're mostly Orthodox. The Soviet Union has been gone for about 20 years now.

Wow, they pulled off a plane crash without any body gettin' hurt. I wonder if the piolot was really far into playing a game and refused to put it away when the airline attendant asked him to.

Same type plane that crashed earlier this year killing an entire hockey team. No inspections, no government regulations, the same as Ron Paul wants to inplement here.

in aeronautical parlance, it was a success: after all landings should equal take offs. In Russia this might have been an ever better landing since the departure of the passengers was swift and no ramps were needed for "deplaning".

You mean, the pilot brought the plane down, no passengers died and he is not a "hero?" Here in America we labeled them, actually not them, but him, the US Airways plane that crashed in the Hudson river and now, he is a cause celeb and I feel with more kudos, accolades than he deserved. There is an adage that says: Nobody dies the eve, ergo, regardless of all that transpired, it wasn't their time to go, plain and simple. The worst problem in a crash land is fire and that is 50% of why there were not casualties. Also, we have to consider that then plane didn't sink and that had to be part of the equation. Last but not least, the rescue efforts were there in seconds, minutes and most air crashes don't have all those benefits, ergo, I think this nation went overboard making a hero of someone that was really, really lucky. Is he, was he a good pilot? If a pilot doesn't master his technique after that many years, he shouldn't be flying any way.

Let's review that UA Flt 232 that crashed landed in Sioux City, IA and where all those benefits were absent and yet under more precarious situation, no hydraulics and yet many survived that time and I don't recall the pilot nor the crew going around the TV circuit honoring them for saving those they saved. One more problem and people, I called blind mice, don't see that if you make a hero out of a not such dire situation as compared with other air disasters, what people are doing is making those other pilots, less than heroes, although many paid with their lives. Of course, I'm not saying that those air crashes that were pilot's, crew's fault should be called heroes, but this protitution of the word hero is making heroes of many lucky people. Let's see how long will take the media to call the pilot and Russian crew "heroes." My guess is never I think that prowess doesn't apply. It sounds like the only ones that has "heroes" is America. Many have called war criminals heroes also, but are they real heroes? No way Jose. They were doing their jobs and BTW, their, pilot, crew, lives were at stake. To me a hero is someone that dies, willingly, trying to save other lives, like the report about that grandfather that died trying to save his grandchild. As for people calling the military invading other countries, committing war crimes, or making accidents to appear acts of heroism when none were there, are not heroes either. I don't consider Pat Tillman a hero. A hero doesn't die w/o knowing he became a hero and killed by his comrades. Actually, I think in his case, there was something more sinister, more evil. It came through the embedded media that his unit couldn't stand him for his diva status. And Jessica Lynch? That is another "heroine" that didn't know she was one, but who cares to such small details when you are trying to take over oil fields? Last, but not least, that U.S. marine that received the medal of honor. Now they, the media is saying that as with Pat Tillman, and Jessica Lynch, their deeds were exagerated to say the least. Oh, well, nobody said that America cares about the truth. As for the army and marines, they stuck to their guns, just like with Jessica and Pat.

For DCS and Rick. I'm sure you would say the same about Reverend Jeremiah Wright, because America, specially white trash, the KKK crowd, tea partiers, republicans can't stand the truth, so much so, that they forced Obama to ditch him like a hot potato after Reve Wright being his "counselor?" for over 20 years was denied more times than the three Peter denied the Lord. I'm sure that those who can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. You want to hear about another person America can't stand and call her truths "rants?" Cindy Sheehan. Do you want to meet another guy with the "ranting complex?" Keith Olbermann. And what all those rants have to do with my rantings? Elementary Dr. Watson, America can't handle the truth. Thank you Sherlock for explaining it to us. You're welcome!

@ Tom Everyone has a time to go its childish to come up with the typical Why did He let it happen in the first place? No one can know God's will bad things happen, sometimes because of human stupidity sometimes as a test of faith. If God stepped into every single aspect of life we would have no range of emotions we would be like a real life Sims game. Now how many crashes that were this bad have you read of and there have been NO deaths its a miracle in of itself, so if you don't believe in God fine, but those of us that do will take this small blessing and thank him for it. I pray you won't be so narrow mineded all your life, and I'm sure if it was you in the plane in between the panic attcks and crapping yourelf you would suddenly have a change of heart about any Power from above, seen it enough to know..
