Smoke rises above the Khazret Sultan mosque in Astana, Kazakhstan, Jan. 15. The mosque, which is regarded as the largest in Central Asia, was on fire on Sunday and 20 vehicles were involved in the firefighting operation.

AP reports the blaze was likely caused by welding equipment that set fire to scaffolding installed beneath the central dome of the mosque which is still under construction.

Kazakhstan and the US have good relations. There is no reason to believe that will happen.

But isn't it more fun to turn every situation into a us vs. them political issue?

In all seriousness... sucks to see it burn. hope all turns out well.

When Muslims turn every issue into a political one, don't expect infidels to keep quiet when Muslims wants us!

My first thought was that they'd find a way to blame Israel. But either way, I agree. Bummer for them, and someone is in mourning as we speak. That is never a cause for rejoicing or joking around, unless of course it was some evil person like Adolf Hitler, or Sadaam Hussein, or one of Hussein's two sons.

because Christianity is so tolerant? remember the inquisition and the crusades? islam is very tolerant. its only when it is taken to extremes (like all religions) that it becomes a bad things. egregious generalizations about a beautiful faith based on the acts of a few is like saying that everyone who lives in germany is a nazi or that everyone in russia is a closet communist.

Muslims are fighting non-Muslims in most of the non-Muslim nations.

Where they form more than five percent, they have become real menace and curse on non-Muslims.

Where there are not many non-Muslims, Muslims are killing each other.

In how many Christian nations, Quran is banned? In how many ME Muslim nations, they permit Bible, leave alone constructing a church.

Out of all the religions/cults, followers of Islam are the only one following one-way street even in 21st century!

And who were the crusaders fighting? The Muslims, when everyone else has been too cowardly to fight the "religion of beheading". Islam and allah are not peaceful or tolerant of those who do not bow down and worship their pedophile mohammad. Muslims are the people of hate.

Hey ya'll. Now that you all assumed I am a bible thumper, guess what? I'm not. I am an Athiest.

I know Christianity has a bloody past. For the most part, it is not anymore. There is one group that has remained truly med-evil; it is Islam.

I just think that enough is enough. When their % of a population is low, they claim to be a religion of peace. When their % of a population is high, your life is in danger.

In this day and age, being a Christian is a personal choice. In many Islam dominated nations, it is truly dangerous. Besides, I am sick and tired of Muslim Extremist Terrorism. Every day it is in the news that 57 are killed here, 2,000 villagers are hacked to death there, news journalist raped in a crowd as the police looked on, daily rocket attacks on Israel from Palastine.

How dare we even make deals with these people.

Perhaps the people of Kazakhstan are different, but their brand of religion seems to be the most disruptive, violent religion in the world today.

As far as I am concerned, I believe they can all just go walk into the ocean and nobody would miss them.

Jonathan, the answer to your question is that Bibles and churches are allowed in every single Muslim country (>50) except for Saudi Arabia

You seem to think they're not allowed in any Muslim country. You need to educate yourself more and travel more and you can see with your eyes millions of Christians in Muslim-majority countries. When one church is burned down in Egypt it makes international headlines. Mosques have been burned down in America. If an outsider saw only that headline they might think no mosques are allowed in America. You seem to have fallen victim to the same misunderstanding

Allah must be furious with his followers. Or else how can there be fire in the biggest central Asia's Khazret Sultan mosque in Astana?

Probably, Allah wants to put some sanity among his followers. This must be the reason for bombings and killing of Shiites pilgrims and injuring more Iraq and some more in Pakistan.

This was an unfortunate event. To revel in this is certainly wrong. All people do evil. We are all sinners here. Yet there are people who would like to change this world. To make the world a heaven on earth; instead of allowing it to remain hell on earth. How can they do this when others refuse to join them? How can any of us do enough good in this world, if there are insensitive and ignorant people, by their words and actions, destroying what we have done? Godly people exist in all religions. They choose to build on positive things and refuse to be pulled into the negativity of others. To those of us who wish to create heaven on earth but who have no guidance, I ask you to actively seek out others of our kind. To join together to do good. To be tolerant of other religions and beliefs. To forgive instead of hate. To look for positive ways of enhancing this world. For if we stay isolated. If we refuse to leave our homes and band together; this world will continue to be evil and remain hellish.

A Holy place, a Godly place where people pray was damaged by fire. It was a Mosque. Those of us who can afford it should offer to help, to send money for repairs etc. Those of us who can't should offer our prayers. When things like this happen to Churches, Synagogues or Mosques; those of us who can should help, the rest of us should pray. I think if enough of us were to pray, God would once again choose to talk to us, to be active in our lives. Instead it seems to me that God has turned his back on this world and is allowing us to wallow in the filth of hate and evil. Let us all make the right choice while there is still time.
