Protesters set fires in a street on Friday.

Reuters reports from DAKAR — Protesters hurled rocks at police who retaliated with tear gas in Senegal's capital Dakar on Friday after a top legal body said President Abdoulaye Wade had the right to run for a third term in elections next month.

Local television said one policeman died from head injuries after clashes in the capital Dakar. Reuters reporters saw youths set fire to tires in the street and overturn cars after a late-night ruling of the West African country's Constitutional Council.

Btw Big Ben, Senegal is in West Africa. I'm embarrassed the people in our own country are so ignorant about the rest of the world.

When the Supreme Court of the United States has awarded the presidency to G W Bush when he lost the popular vote, it would not be too wise to quickly condemn other governments for corruption and injustice.

Of stone tossing and glass houses, eh? It is all about holding on to power by any means, regardless of laws, constitutional principles or the interests of society or justice. Consider Libya and consider Syria. Look at the December "elections" in the Congo. Consider for a moment also why the Minority Leader of the US Senate would say that his number one priority is to regain the Presidency for his party rather than to serve the best interest of the country and his state? Power madness! And it is a lot closer to home that we want to realize or acknowledge.

You are absolutely right! I live in Wisconsin and cannot believe what has gone on in our state legislature since Walker and his other Koch brother cronies came into office. Got more than double the needed signatures for a recall, though. Back to the article.

My daughter was married to a man orginal from Senegal. When they were married she visited Dakar. There is abstract poverty, people living on dirt floors and excessive wealth, the palace the president lives in. No matter where you go, people are tired of being pissed on the rich and powerful.

What happens here in the US is nothing compared to other countries. Bush was elected legally in accordance with our constitution's election process.

I agree with you Bob. People here can be such a bunch of whiny babies. Nothing compared to the way people in other countries, like this, have to live. Maybe what's going on there (going by what Susanm said about Darfar and what I've seen) is the poor are having too many babies, and the rich are ruling by force, they get and keep their power by bullying (to put it mildly).

Once the secret cult that administers the system installs a puppet government, no news come out of that area. That was what Wikileaks was all about. Embarassing the unregulated criminal capitalists around the world. Exposing the hypocrites. Enlightening us on their secret deals and unbridled greed for power.

The Holocaust deniers will make the reports from Dakar disappear too.

I agree! Exactly we do have it better here than in other countries. Why, do you think that people immigrate here and in many cases illegally. Although, there are big woes here, it is minor compared to other parts of the world. Like freedom of speech and religion. Although, I am a minister of the Good News and I get that right from God. And it has been upheld in world's Supreme courts. Man dominating man to his injury. Critical times hard to deal with, will be here.

Senegal, why still conducting these habits? Don't you see how people suffer? Stop it now. Peace is of meaningful to the people.
