A Vermont prison inmate who makes stationery and license plates has gotten the best of the state police by adding the image of a pig to the state decal on their cruisers.

One of the spots on the cow in the state crest has been changed to the shape of a pig, a derogatory term for police. The 16-inch car door decals are made by prisoners in Windsor.

State police discovered the pig images Wednesday. They say they believe the decals have been added to about 30 cruisers in the past year.

According to the Burlington Free Press, who originally reported the story, Vermont Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn said the disclosure of the incident made him chuckle.

"This is not as offensive as it would have been years ago. We can see the humor," Flynn said.

He said the artist has talents that could be used elsewhere. "If that person had used some of that creativeness he or she would not have ended up inside."

Who made the modification and when it happened is being reviewed by the Department of Corrections. Corrections Commissioner Andy Pallito said Thursday new decals will be made by Monday for about $800.

reminds me of the hidden ART work in some of the old "mad" magazines, and back when the editorial staff in high school hid messages and such in the year book. great work for idle hands (pun) whoever did this is not only crafty and imaginative, but could do wonders on political posters. love it.

The Vermont state police are pretty blind to simple images! Let's not forget the tree shadow in the shape of a man with a hat pointing a gun through his coat pocket toward the cow. He also looks like he's "excited" about the cow. I believe that the pig is only the most recognizable hidden image in the work. They need to look at the entire composition as some may be sideways or upside down.

In New Mexico the cops would've used the guy as one more target. Nice job, buddy.

no doubt...he'd hold up a paint brush and KaBAM! he'd be dead. Granted, most of them in NM deserved it in my opinion. I hate that the family of the guy who shot at the cops and then tried to stab them is suing them. Pretty ballsy if you ask me. I'd counter sue for stupidity.

OK, this made me laugh. I can just see and hear the guy as he's painting, "Heh, heh, snort, hee hee." (eyes swiveling from side to side occasionally). The fact that he hasn't outed himself, as some prisoners tend to do, says he's probably getting quite a bit of private, personal enjoyment from his endeavors.

Who knows what he's in prison for? It doesn't say in the article. It could be drug possession or something stupid like that. Slave labor, you get what you pay for.

On the other hand, I wonder if they've asked the obvious question of, are there any art forgers in the prison where we get our decals printed?

Perhaps someone should tell Commissioner Flynn that "creativeness" is not a word. And, its just a bit trite to suggest that someone with creativity would not have ended up in jail if they had used it elsewhere. I like the pig. But the decal itself looks like some century old dairy ad.

Uh, apparently Merriam-Webster considers "creativeness" the noun form of "creative".

Does sound inferior to "creativity", though.

Having met the staff of MSNBC years back, this is about their intelligence level. One of the reasons the company almost folded and was forced to move into a building ten times smaller with another company.

Never understood how criminals blame police for their predicament. If you don't want to be around cops, then be a responsible citizen. Now, I know there are some bad cops out there, but the majority are serving in a very difficult, dangerous job to protect us. Another thing, the jerks who complain about the cops the most are the first to call them when they're in trouble.

Funny, I go to Vermont every year and never noticed the pig. Hope they leave it on the cars, maybe it will increase tourism.

Maybe one of the mail order art schools can hire the convict to teach art.
