AP reports:

Thick snowflakes fell in Rome on Friday, a rare occurrence for a capital usually blessed by a temperate climate, and other parts of the country experienced frigid temperatures unseen in years.

The snowfall prompted authorities to stop visitors from entering the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, the former home of Rome's ancient emperors.

The last substantial snowfalls in Rome were in 1985 and 1986, though there have been other cases of lighter snow since then, including in 2010.

There's nothing more sexy than a LADY with "qualified feet" wearing sexy shoes. And in the snow. Very nice. Kudos to cool toes.

How dare they only show the shoes.

The greatest part about high heels happens further up.

They modify the posture, mainly the posterior.

Bingo! No cracked heels from crocs, yellow toenails, or just plain dirty feet. (I think I just described a trip to Wal Mart)

Uhm... Sorry to disappoint you, but Roman women don't have hairy armpits. Those were in vogue back in the 1970s and '80s, at the latest.

We had a dusting of snow over ice a few weeks back and the emergency wards and clinics were PACKED with folks with broken limbs, sprains, dislocations etc. etc. so I can imagine how overtaxed the health authorities must be in Rome which is a much bigger city and with lunatics strutting around in high heels.

Thanks Sir. I see you appreciate some of the same things as I. When it comes to feet, well, I was raised in Hawaii, and have seen just about everything when it comes to feet, including women who were victim of 'foot binding' (they were old women by now). Trust me, those Ladies in the photo have pretty feet.

lol... I might regret saying this (spitting in the eye of fate) but I fell, HARD, on the ice 2 weeks ago while I was wearing my ugly, flat boots to make a run outside. However, I have NEVER fallen on ice in heels. I tend to use the heel to dig in to the ice to help my balance. Of course, I find sandals to be a bit ridiculous looking in 6 inches of snow.. but close toed and such are totally do-able.

But.. I am not as keen to wear them in the sand. I could see that being a real big problem. lol

        #2.16 - Thu Feb 9, 2012 12:48 AM EST

lol I had to read that more than once.. thinking, why would people want to layer skirts over pants?

Sorry though, I can't think of a utilitarian reason to wear skirts vs pants.. I just like to wear skirts, but I like pants too. Especially when it's -10 degrees. :)

That sounds like an incorrect analogy. Mexico doesn't produce some of the best designs in the world, or the best exotic cars in world, or it doesn't have one of the highest standards of living in the world. Also, the rest of Europe doesn't have an illegal immigration problem with Italy. I'm afraid your comparison is rather weak .

I met one of the most beautiful women in my life in Italy. She looked like she was right out of a Renaissance painting. Lustrous black hair, jade green eyes and opalescent skin. Turns out she was Mexican. Beautiful women are everywhere.

And comparing Italy to Mexico is a bad analogy. How many illegal Italians do you hear about risking their lives to get to Switzerland?

I disagree, I think Americans have the best genes due to a more diverse gene pool. It's the processed food/alcohol/coffee/pop/sedentary lifestyle that f*cks it all up. By Europeans, I hope you meant to leave out English people; they're just plain butt ugly. I saw three chicks at the grocery store last night better looking than Pippa Middleton.

zupercram, I'm with you on the English/Brits. It's frightening and you're correct about the gene pool. They're basically all related and come in, oh, four or five "flavors". I can spot them a mile away. Yeah, I can't get over how they gush about Kate Middleton's "rare beauty"--Pippa is better looking and you probably would see 3 women better looking than she is at a grocery store or (gasp!) even a Walmart near me.

@Gloria Fabiashci - I happen to be 59 yrs old, 5'2", 128 lbs., live in the US. and wear heels ALL the time. During winter months I'll switch from clogs, to platforms, to open toed, to closed toed, and to sandals according to what I happen to be wearing. Stairs are no problem. I can even run in heels. I do not get cramps or muscle aches from wearing heels but my feet do ache when I wear flats. In fact, I trip all over my feet when I wear flats. It's all a matter of what you are conditioned to. btw - stockings are a great insulator and high heels keep the hems of pants/slacks/jeans from dragging and getting wet. Oh, and yeah - I happen to be of feminine persuasion.

i used to work in a bowling alley for over 5 years

i had a 9/10 accuracy guess rate for size of shoe whenever a guy came in.

that dropped to a 1/10 for women. they always suggested anywhere from half to 2 sizes smaller than i suggested.

bad judgement? no. most women want to be known for having small feet, not be the (seemingly) bigfoots they sometimes are.

on a sidenote, 8+ (in the US) tends to be about the size women will start saying they are a full size smaller at.

as for my own opinion? dont matter big or small, pretty or not, your feet all stink and i sprayed them TWICE AND THREE TIMES when you left in front of everyone to let them know you had SMELLY FEET!

lol no i kid, but i know you all thought i did that too!

Thats true, you do see that in Roma in the winter time, but I was mostly looking at the women attached to those feet.

Women wearing stilletos in the snow is nothing new. Here in Minnesota where it is snowy most winters, (this year is different) Women wear them, sometimes it's stilleto boots but they also wear stilleto shoes and sandels too. Can you say orthopedic surgeon's dream? I knew you could.

So true. I mostly gave up the heels a long time ago - still wear them occasionally but not daily like I used to do - and I have great feet with no aches and pains and no back trouble either. I love the look of them, but they really aren't great to wear on a regular basis.

heels get really good traction in ice ad snow, better than snow tires. But I would have worn some tights with them.

Yuck, I know what it feels like to get water inside your heeled sandals as it rains pretty much every afternoon in the summer here, and it feels disgusting, especially if it's muddy water. I can't imagine how awful it must feel to have cold, occasionally filthy water (snow) soaking your feet all day long. I would switch to heeled boots or a closed pump instead if it were that cold.

Don't have to see their faces. I can tell they are hot. Next time you are out at the mall take a look at the majority of women dressed nice and in heels. Attractive and thin. Now look at the cows in sweat pants and crocs. Need a say more? Call it what you will, I don't care. The women on here who make fun of those in Rome are just jelous and too overweight to look good. Hate that the truth hurts, but sometimes it does.

Lolz! My wife is 5'2" and weighs barely 100 pounds. Stiletto "booties" in the winter (is THAT what the f*ck they call those?!) in the winter, and platform sandals in the summer. Funny, WOMEN think she "over-dresses" when we're out in public (i.e- a restaurant) but hell - I never do!

You know, the men in the USA could stand to smarten up their dress as well. I see way more women dressed up then I do men.

                                              Leon-

I don't think this discussion thread is really trying to center around "attractive & thin" vs. "overweight" women wearing high heels. I believe what some people on this thread are trying to say is that it's a dumb idea to wear open-toed stilettos in snow, no mater what country you're in or how good it looks. It appears these people suffer from an absence of common sense.
