When I watch Soul Train reruns from the 70s, I am struck by the absolute decline in the quality of music, driven by MTV and Rap. The bands on soul trains had horns, and guitar, and drums, and bass and melodies and vocals. They sang about love, life, and the black experience. Go on You Tube and watch videos of Sly and the Family Stone , Parliament, or James Brown. It is a brilliant, multi textured experience full of surprise and substance.

Rap features no instruments, except for canned recordings. The lyrics are inane, hateful, and demeaning to women and insulting to blacks with intelligence. It basically takes no talent.

Don Cornelius showcased outstanding music and that music is long gone.

Blacks with intelligence also know how close minded and one dimensional these statements are. You've described more stuff ON THE RADIO than just rap (some of it...NOT on the radio). Your post is a classic expression/projection of a different kind.

One of the things he did was he shot himself. It was actually the last thing he did.

I mean if people are remembered for what they did, this guy should be remembered for shooting himself.

                Love, Peace and Soul.

RIP and we hop you find all three where you are today.

I remember Soul Train every Saturday morning growing up in Queens. He was definately a ground breaker when racism and oppression was the norm. God bless and rest in peace.
