Philippine rescuers searched on Tuesday for 29 residents of a mountainside community feared dead after a landslide triggered by an earthquake engulfed their homes.

Dozens of people were still missing Tuesday following a strong earthquake that triggered landslides and damaged buildings and roads on a central Philippine island. The death toll reached 22, but officials said it was likely to rise further as rescuers struggle to reach remote areas.
Adrian Sedillo, a disaster council officer in Negros Oriental province, said the death toll was likely to rise. There were reports of at least 14 more deaths, but the number will be added to the official count only after authorities verify that the bodies have been recovered, he said.
One of the dead not yet included in the count was a young woman whose body was dug out of a landslide in the mountain village of Solongon in La Libertad town. An unknown number of people were trapped there when a part of the mountain collapsed on about 100 houses.
Manila's ABS-CBN television showed footage of the woman's parents wailing at the landslide site after her body was retrieved late Tuesday by soldiers using shovels. The report said the woman had managed to send a text message to her relatives hours earlier telling them she was still alive and pleading for rescuers to hurry.
"We have no water and power because electric posts were toppled," Guihulngan Mayor Ernesto Reyes told The Associated Press by phone. "Many of our roads were damaged, including bridges, and stores are closed. We're isolated."

Maybe you don't have anything to live for Stacey, but I want to live for my family...my kids. Besides, you never know when the end of this world will be for you. It may be tomorrow in an accident or in 50 years from now, from old age. The important thing is to be ready and try to do things that make you truly happy (not talking about temporary pleasures) AND that are worthwhile.
Stacey, it seems that, just like these people in the Philippines, you're going through a rough patch in your life too. Hope you and those families who are grieving for their lost ones find happiness and comfort.

You know Michael, we are not supposed to know the exact date of the Rapture or the End Time... so we can always be on our best behavior. Every age has found "proof" that the end was near. That's kind of the point. My advice is to chill out, be kind and keep believing.

most gas and oil is coming out of porus rock; not lakes of oil, shale which is not so porus (or tight) is fractured, frac sand is injected into the formation to make the rock more porus, then the oil and gas migrate thru the fractures (hense frac) and up thru holes perforated in the casing and either virgin pressure forces it up the casing or pumping units etc pump it up if not enough natural pressure

No oil drilling there. They have earthquakes all the time. That's part of the Pacific ring of fire. I feel bad for them, they've had a difficult year in the Philippines.

Look it up on the internet, some european passengers of that cruise ship tragedy in Italy says Filipino ship workers improvised ways to help passengers get on life boats and escape. They were the last to abandon ship.
I had opportunity to work with Filipinos, they are reliable and hard working group of people. They can also speak better english than many asians I had worked with.

If you haven't had the opportunity to interact with the Filipino people, you have missed out. I lived there for three years, and they ARE the most hard-working people (as a culture) that I've experienced. They live on next to nothing, yet are grateful for even the smallest kindness shown to them. They have had it rough...not just this year, but every year, enduring tragedies like this earthquake and countless typhoons as well. Our prayers (not insensitive comments) should go out to them.

Earthquakes are a part of life in the ring of fire, however; it is always sad when a quake causes death, and destruction in the area hit.

This planet was a bubbling, boiling cauldron for 200 million years, has been covered in ice a couple of times, been smashed several times by meteors which killed all existing life forms on the surface, undergone a complete magnetic reversal, been flooded, continents ripped apart....and you think mortals, mere humans are endangering the planet?
The world will not end until the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached to all the world, also the Temple in Jeruselum will be rebuild, so the 2nd coming will rein in the all the Jews will know that Jesus is the Christ.

If oil is to blame for this then why is Saudi Arabia,Kuwait, Texas and Alaska not having earthquakes. The idea that oil acts as some type of shock-arrestor is very interesting, but as far as I know there is no drilling in the Philippines. They are located on the largest rim of volcanic activity, and shifting of the pacific plates is more likely the cause.
Now this makes more sense than most Posts on here!
