Satellite spots tanks near university housing complex in city of Homs

This satellite image provided by Digital Globe shows three Syrian military tanks near the Al Baath University housing complex and the Baba Amr neighborhood in the southwest section of Homs, Syria, Friday, Feb. 10, 2012.

AP reports: DigitalGlobe said the images were taken late Friday morning Syrian time by the company's WorldView 2 satellite from about 480 miles above the Earth. Stephen Wood, director of DigitalGlobe's analysis center, said the photos show tanks, armored personnel carriers and other armored vehicles in the southern part of the city, some of them near apartment buildings.

The satellite images show an increase in the level of army activity in and around Homs from the previous 24 hours, Wood said.

U.S. ambassador Robert Ford spoke to NBC's Andrea Mitchell about the government violence that's being blamed on terrorists.

Russia vetoed the UN resolution because of long standing ties with the Assad family. China went along because they too are an authoritarian regime and they are afraid that the arab spring is headed their way,and rightfully so. You cannot keep a billion people down forever. Assad will go,eventually after huge amounts of bloodshed. Russia will rue the day. The naval port they have been modernizing in Tartus for a russian naval base will not be welcoming any russian warships, count on it.

Our Republican nominees would be happy to return to the days of "Rwan-where? Not our problem. Pyramids of skulls create jobs"

@freedom_monger, Yes I see another "CIVIL WAR" on the horizon. But it ain't gonna turn out the same way this time. Also, it won't be pretty for the gov...!

If there were another civil war here I think it would be between the poor and the ellite. The rich folks may have the money but us poor people have had to scrape and scratch just to survive. Where I'm at we pretty much have to procure our own food by hunting, fishing, farming ect. It takes just about all the little cash we see to pay the bills. In short we live off the land as much as possible. Some of the ellite are hunters but going to a half million dollar hunting lodge aint spending weeks in the woods with nothing but a gun and a few bullets. I belive the rich are too much creatures of comfort to survive in our world. Another civil war would not be drawn between states but the haves and havenots.

Capncaveman: UR delusional. The only thing you will catch in the woods is poison ivy. The rich are rich because they are smarter than you. So in any real world after a major nuclear holocaust, you will still be the one that does menial jobs for the rich at a minimum wage.
