Romania digs out from 15 feet of snow

A woman shovels the snow from the entrance of her house in Glodeanu Silistea village, 100km east of Bucharest on Feb. 14. Romania may halt electricity exports and limit supplies to industrial consumers in a bid to meet rising household demand due to freezing temperatures, the government said today.

The Associated Press reports: Snow as deep as 15 feet (4.5 meters) isolated areas in Romania, Moldova and Albania on Tuesday and turned a power plant in Kosovo into a park of dazzling ice sculptures.

In a winter harsher than many can remember, energy workers struggled mightily Tuesday to break the ice that has encapsulated Kosovo's main power station in Obilic. Steam from the plant's vents coated its pipes and buildings with ice and snow, turning them into unworldly, unrecognizable objects of art.

Since the end of January, Eastern Europe has been pummeled by a record-breaking cold snap and the heaviest snowfalls in recent memory.

Global Warming anybody?

    Reply#54 - Tue Feb 14, 2012 5:59 PM EST

Science and politics should never mix but they frequently do. Eventhough science is suppossed to be free of bias and rely on only the hard facts rarely do many ever get to see that. Instead we have stupid politicians and some stupid scientists stirring up everything that is anathema to logic and science. Whats the result? Nothing gets done because there are people like Gore who have blown the opportunity to address this problem, if there is a problem that is. Its crazy because now it doesn't matter if there was a problem or not. It's as simple as that. The parasites (special interests, lobbists, democrats, repubs, etc etc) waiting in the wings to make their millions/billions are also to blame.

How do politicans affect the weather? Other than adding a little bit of hot air to the atmosphere?

alfred newman, i agree and am much concerned as i pay close attn. to weather patterns across the globe. i do be lieve we are in for a rude awakening with droughts, floods, hurricanes and whatever else nature throws at us. the comment about the IQ's is true, no kidding, wasn't trying to be a smart arse. we will be lucky if food production becomes are next boogeyman.

okay bill...i believe you about the IQ tests....I sailed for years and had to watch the weather around the globe and it has become more erratic and unpredictable over the past 40 years....for what reasons i do not know....as I have no axe to grind or point to gain in this discussion...i just know what i see and have extrapolated that things have and are changing rapidly

Can you say "Catastrophic Climatic Destabilization"?

You should. Instead of "global warming".

People who say "What global warming?" are hopelessly provincial rubes. The world is bigger than your own little backyard. Figure it out.

i am a fairly liberal thinker, i look at the evidence and the talking points and try to make an informed stance for my views. i see where climates change over time and how fossil fuels assist it along. i believe we're in a period of both, natural change and man assisted alteration s. there is not an area on this planet that has not felt the changes weather patterns have brought. we are in a period of great concern to anyone that has the ability to objectively look at the evidence and understand that many weather records have fallen just within the past few years. it is not coincidence but a pattern emerging that one day soon will leave us all praying for a way out.

I find it funny how the left assume that global warming is a scientifically proven theory. Global warming science is based mostly on temperature measurements over an extremely short period of time. We would need thousands of years of temperature measurements to know if this is indeed global warming or just the natural cycle of nature. You know the earth has been through several ice ages. Wait you mean it froze, then warmed up, then froze, then warmed up. I guess cavemen were using too many fossil fuels. Must I remind you left liberal nimrods, that the data accumulated by the global warming scientist was debunked a few years ago during climategate. You know, the e-mails in which the lead global warming scientist were encouraging their colleges not to report temperature data because it would actually debunk their global warming theory. Oh how quickly the left forgets.

You are on the mark with your assessment. The left is hell bent on selling this "Man Made Global Warming" concept as a science, when in fact it is not. When scientists alter data in their efforts to achieve a desired outcome/result, it is called fraud.

Their whole fabrication has created an "industry" whereby people are getting rich "selling" a renewable energy/Cap and Trade mandate. Renewable energy is fine, but the mandate is far too costly. It tries to totally negate the reality that fossil fuels do work and they are not a bad thing. All energy sources should be produced and utilized until alternative forms can be phased in economically. It is a bad strategy to artificailly raise prices in an energy market in order to "justify" a concept. Green energy should not be mutually exclusive.

But the animals & plants are most affected & are dying off in droves. Google 'climate change animal' and read tru the 120M hits if you dare.

                                                Here are the core issues:

We as a species are not intelligent enough to know all the facts that would lead to a valid conclusion regarding climate change. We as a species are so stratified and conditioned by our political ruling class to fighting amongst ourselves that we abandon any pursuit of real truth in favor of political expediency. We as a culture have decided that it is better to accept the scraps from the political elites table rather than suffer the pain of changing what is clearly a fundamentally fractured system. We refuse to even listen to opposing viewpoints, clinging to those views expressed by people who are driven by agendas and who readily profit from the hysteria that results.

In short: we are far to ignorant to know the answers to these questions with any accuracy, arrogant enough to believe that we do and naive enough to believe we can affect changes in a global system that is beyond our ability to affect.

Believe me; we are ignorant enough to believe we can fix climate change, and just dumb enough to completely destroy it.
