Religious offerings snapped up by grateful Indonesians

One man's somber offering to the gods can turn into another man's free lunch, as we've seen before on PhotoBlog.

On a beach in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta on Wednesday, Hindu priests threw chickens and other offerings into the sea as part of the Melasti ritual. Standing a few feet off shore were another group of men, eager to catch the bounty.

The ceremony is performed to purify the universe from bad influences, bad deeds and bad thoughts. It takes place in advance of Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence.
