A gunbattle near a baseball stadium in the Mexican city of Saltillo killed three suspected gunmen and sent players scurrying for cover on Tuesday, The Associated Press reports.
Sergio Sisbeles, a state security spokesman, said the gunbattle broke out after gunmen opened fire on a state police patrol on a street near the stadium while the Saraperos team was playing an exhibition match against a local youth team.
Police chased the gunmen, killing three and wounding another. Local media reported there were no injuries among the players or fans.
Drug cartels are active in the region, but police did not say whether the suspects belonged to a gang. Read more.

It wasn't the players. It was a couple of ticket scalpers outside the stadium arguing over a prime corner. ;)

Mexico"s society breaking down, all because of our appetite for illegal drugs. Dont know the solution but I do know the war on drugs is lost, had been lost when it started. Maybe legalization is the answer, it was for booze during Prohibition when organized crime practically ruled parts of the US.
Mexican society is breaking down because of the drug war, not because of drug use. The solution is legalization and an end to this dirty war.

This is what we let into the U.S.. Millions yearly pour in illegally and by mid century will be the predominant race. There is not a single country in South America that is not considered 3rd world which is exactly what America is headed for. There is a reason races separate naturally.
Actually the westernization of civilization is the reason why there are third world countries in the Americas. If you want to get technical, who brought the guns and who bought the drugs? The races separate only because it is easier to stay with what you know because of the fear of being different. I would say to any intelligent person like yourself, if you think this is your homeland than shut up and be a real American, and realize that every race has scum. Just look at the Europeans, they are white as snow(for the most part) and their economy is falling to rubble, and guess what, good White folks are the ones to blame. Greed and poverty see no color so don't be such a douche, the whole world is going to hell in a hand basket and the good folks in charge are responsible.
To Denverright----Since you admit that color isn't the problem-- do you recognize that the American middle class, law-abiding, legally here, working steadily and trying to save are the ones that are being ripped off by the greedy on both sides of the spectrum? This is our country, when Mexicans come into it illegally, The United States of America needs to do it's job and send them home. We need laws to protect U.S. citizens from the violence and drugs that Mexicans are jeopardizing us legal citizens from.
In Mexico criminals have guns, gangs have guns, police have guns, military have guns, the only people who are prohibited from owning guns are the law abiding citizens, bad recipe. Arm all or disarm all, half and half does not work.

Have to agree with square dude, drugs and the money to be made in the U.S. is why this happened. I was in Mexico over a decade ago, strange to me then, military riding around in jeeps keeping order. A national happened to get out of line and I witnessed a beat down like I have never seen. Hmmmmm.....
About time the Mexican police learned to shoot straight!

We have 91,000 soldiers stuck in a Muslim Hell hole. Send all of them on a Mexican vacation fully armed. At least then we will know what they are fighting for.
When they used to say "Take a knee everybody," back in little league they did'nt mean shoot someones kneecap off.
The drug gangs in Mexico, and really in much of Central and South America, are totally out of control. These guys are pretty messed up too, they like to torture and execute anyone that crosses them, often by beheading. In at least one instance, they used a chainsaw.
Aaand THIS is why I won't be going to Mexico any time soon. My mother went years ago and has wonderful memories of the place, the Spanish students in my high school went every few years and enjoyed it, but I'm not setting foot in that country when this kind of stuff is happening.
Yet you live-and likely thrive-in a country where just last month a child took a gun to school and shot fellow classmates? Where someone detonated a bomb at the Olympic Games? Guess what: the US isn't perfect, and crime happens here, also. I just crossed the border yesterday, and here I am, in the US again, not a scratch on me.
Also: just in case you thought our borders are secure, and people without passports are denied entry into our country, WRONG. They can walk right through the turnstiles at customs with only a state issued drivers license or ID card, and a birth certificate proving they were born in the US. I have done it as recently as three months ago, and watched people in line with me use that to cross as recently as yesterday.
There are always the usual questions: where do you live, how long were you in Mexico, why did you go there, are you bringing anything back with you? In my case, they almost always ask..did you go by yourself? If you are without passport, they ask why don't you have one, at which time you can say that you are in the process of getting one and happen to have an extra birth certificate.

Yes, you are right. Asian people do much less crime than European people in the U.S. so I think they would be wise to deport all the Europeans back to Europe. Not one of you made the comment that it is Americans who are responsible for the drug business. Not the Mexicans, Jamaicans, Russians, Colombians, Vietnamese or anyone else. You buy and use the drugs. It is market driven. Don't buy the drugs and the narcos will disappear. However, admitting that they are responsible for the drug war is not the American way. Better to blame someone else. Americans of course also do not sell the guns to the cartels. Another denial. Sorry Americans nobody is buying your story.
