Tracy Martin (left in orange shirt), and Sybrina Fulton,(R), parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin, pray at a Million Hoodies March on March 21, 2012 in New York City.

Hundreds of protesters marched from Manhattan's Union Square, calling for justice in the killing of Trayvon Martin, 17, who was pursued and shot on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida by "neighborhood watch" member George Zimmerman, reportedly because the teenager's hoodie made him look suspicious.

Under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, Zimmerman has not been charged with a crime in the shooting.

A rally in Miami, closer to where the Sanford, Fla. shooting took place, was also held to show unity with Martin's family.

iGus-5524911 This entire situation is unfortunate... however, wasn't he inside a gated community? Wouldn't that cause some concern by any homeowner? How did he get in? Just saying...

Yes he was .. visiting his family who lived there. Just sayin' ...

This seems like a senseless tradegy but why is it being framed as racial. Hispanic man shoots black man. So is it now a Hispanics vs. Blacks thing ? I dont understand. Sounds like it is a Zimmerman thing, if the guy commited murder arrest him... but why all the race baiting ?

Can a hispanic be racist against a black person? I know the answer to that is yes already, but wanted to get your view on that. How does he being hispanic erase the possibility of this being racially motivated?

I dont understand how anyone can say that race wasnt an issue in this murder. I really feel for tryvons family, and i hope they get justice somehow. Its not that young mans fault that the way he chose to dress made this idiot zimmerman nervous. U cant judge someone by the way they dress especially younger people, because alot of their culture comes from popular music an movies. Attention white prejudice people out there if your afraid of th black youth dont blame them.Blame your gteat great great grandparents for taking us from our own culture an bringing us here against our will, breaking up our families and keeping us uneducated fot the better part of 400years. Then on top of that after slavery not giving us equal job opportunities, equal education opportunities, confining us to poverty stricken areas, and then flooding those same inner city areas with drugs an guns. Then have the nerve to point the finger at us when some of us behave in ignorant ways, wow. no other race couldve survived all weve been through, let alone rise all the way to the white house.white people were the first ones to start wearing hoods the kkk,to scare innocent black families. Now your terrified when you see a black man with one on. Ironic huh? I guess you reap what you sew. Arrest zimmerman or we all lose.

I don't believe this is a racial crime. Numerous crimes are committed by black youth wearing hoodies, therefore, when someone matching a description is seen in a neighborhood where these crimes have recently occurred people naturally are suspicious. When a crime happens to you, you feel angry and violated but under no circumstances should you lay in wait or carry an armed weapon roaming your neighborhood looking for a suspect. That is the part that is inexcusable. A tragedy waiting to happen! Neighborhood watch should "watch" and report suspicious persons/activity to the trained authorities. However, if someone is at your doorstep or comes upon you with intent to harm then all bets are off and you should have the right to take care of it. I can see the difference!

I am praying for the family of trayvon and I hope justice will be served. no one deserved to die like this. If it was a black man that shoot and kill a white boy he will be in prison. There wouldn't be a protest to get justice. May God strengthen the family through their grief.

how "COLD" was it in Florida, that the boy need to put up the hood??? Unless he was up to something 'no' good !!!

The Whites don’t want you talk about this issue as racial issue by any means. The half blacks don’t want you to exaggerate this issue or politicize the issue.

Rest of the blacks seems really angry and want people to come to a dialogue or Let’s keep talking thing, shamelessly for million’th time in a century, thinking the dialogue will work. This is pathetic.

The real issue is that we are leaving in an environment where fear, uncertainty, ignorance and hatred made us weak and we are afraid to confront the real culprits.

The Attorney General of Florida & Governor should resign immediately. They should have arrested Zimmerman long time ago and booked him for brutal killing of innocent and minor and misuse of his authority to create
fear in the community and not to mention this is 100% hate crime.

This guy had been hiding his hatred for decades and slowly working his way into law enforcement food chain. All the signs were ignored. I feel so sorry for Martin’s parents right now.

Comments like this are why issues like these have any racial connotation at all. This kid was no "innocent", and the killing was not "brutal". the only brutal part about it was the way George Zimmerman took a beating before he shot Trayvon. The man is probably guilty of manslaughter, but the facts of this case do not make him some government patsy for the "systematic killing of black youths". To think so is just ignorant.

he's NOT innocent....he attacked the other man got surprised by the fact he had a gun got his punk ass killed...boo hoo...don't be a punk don't get yourself hurt....

It wasn't cold, it was raining. The "stand your ground" law is a good statute; Zimmerman has no claim of protection under it as he was not in his home or being advanced upon and threatened. He disobeyed the instructions of the 911 operator by getting out of his car and stalking the murder victim and he violated the neighborhood watch guidelines by being armed with a firearm. The "plantation" mindset that made it seem reasonable to him to assault a field hand for walking near the overseer's homes will not prove to be an effective defense when he gets to court, especially if a change of venue is sought to get an unbiased jury.

Who the hell is a field hand anymore? You think either one of these individuals were ever aware of that mindset? For one, in the "plantation mindset", this kid would have been beaten at first glance and not stalked at all. Second, form the "facts" of this case. It looks like Trayvon was the one administering a beating when he got surprised the man we was beating had a gun. This was no plantation and Trayvon was no slave. Was George Zimmerman wrong? I think he was, but lets have some perspective. There was no "plantation" mindset here, and to think so is ignorant of the "FACTS".

Seems Zimmerman was wrong to pursue this young man, from what I've read. However I think back to another hate crime here in Lynchburg Va, last spring when an elderly white man in town for his granddaughters wedding was beaten to death on a early morning walk on main street.Apparently out for a morning stroll to the city market he was confronted by three young black kids (one thirteen) and a couple of girlfriends who had been out all night partying and wandering the walking trails and bike path adjacent the river on main street! Later testifying they were just showing off for the girls...these youths beat this out of town elderly man to death! It made the local news and black family members cried and carried on about what fine young men these fellows were, they said they had just decided to beat up the next person to come along, to show off! I for one don't believe that if the next person to come along had been Wesley Snipes or Shaquille O'Neal or Al Sharpton or Janet Jackson....this crime would NOT have happened! The victim needed to be white, elderly, possibly female or an easy target....period! No Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson....No angry, outraged black people, hollering racism...no two week long twenty four hour news coverage! Racism...that's something whites do to black people...never the reverse! Right....hey Al Sharpton...hey Jesse Jackson...Right! NO...WRONG! Hate is a two way street and so is racism....Yeah there are a lot of white people with little or no tolerance for blacks...there are also a lot of blacks with NO tolerance for whites! Until and unless you admit that don't you dare preach to me about hate and race....I was the old man with the cane walking with my wife a short way down the street and it could have been me......Only one of these youths were an adult at eighteen...Teach your children well!

Amen! Blacks do no wrong. Just ask one. They'll let you know it. But when there's not a crowd of them they seem to be alittle quieter unless your in their neighborhood. Steve Mcqueen in the movie Bullitt said, "You work your side of the street and i'll work mine"...

What strikes me as sad from this incident is it was a wrongful death perpetrated by a man that was a little to eager in neighborhood duties. Should he be charged with manslaughter? Probably, but do the "FACTS" support murder? probably not. From everything that i have read this man pursued a teenager, (a 6 foot 3) teenager. And when he lost the kid in the neighborhood the kid attacked him and broke his nose and banged his head on the ground. Then he was shot. Does this remove the young man from any and all responsibility? I think not. The sad part is you have all these sheep following some race discussion when, this is an unfortunate and heartbreaking incident, does not belong in the same context as Rosa Parks and MLK. To say it does is an injustice to the people that actually fought for equal rights. No one is going to plaster Trayvon Martin's face next to a statue of MLK. Not the same people!!! I f feel bad for the kids parents, but lets remember that HE WAS NO CHILD, AND MADE AN ADULT DECISION IN ATTACKING GEORGE ZIMMERMAN. The only mark on Trayvon was a bullet, George Zimmerman looked like someone beat him with a bat. Lets not think for one minute that he just ran this kid down and shot him for no reason!! Read the facts people!! Is George Zimmerman guilty of manslaughter? Maybe

The Martins are so concerned about Trayvon they copywrited everything about him and his name for financial gains. He layed dead three days in the morgue before they even knew he was missing and he's only ...poor little 17 year old gangbanger wanta bee. He was a gangsta and a misfit being expelled from school three times and posted on websites with guns. Yep Obama just the son you would want him to be. I'm with Zimmerman and I would like to know where I can send financial help for his defense.

Google Trevon Martin Myspace, the pictures of him are 3 years old, and he looks nothing like the picture the press puts out. He looks to be in his 20's. Why did they put up a picture of him when he was 10 years old?

He was not a child, he looked to be in his 20's and standing at 6'3" and 200 lbs. He also could join the military with his fathers signiture. He was not a "little boy".

It would not matter to most black's if the kid had been carrying an AK-47 and shooting up the neighborhood. They can do no wrong. A black will not see any wrong another black does. Let the cops do their jobs. Stop the politically correct crap! Look at the facts! Use reason instead of your mouth and use intellegence instead of primal instinct of protest and riot! A race war will happen in this country if things continue on the course as is. Every time something happens in this country Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton come out of the woodwork like "cockroaches" and stir it till it stinks. White's suffer "racism" every day if you don't address a black as african american, BS. My own wife was terminated from a job due to a black coming in an threatening her physically even with witnesses and her employer fired her due to the fear of "blacks". Well damn you i ain't afraid of ya and i'm sick of it. Take responsibility for your own. Stop smoking dope, selling it and crack, get off you asses and get a job or go back to Africa where your "Roots" are. Stop Crying. We "Whites" are sick of it and alot of us are not going to be intimidated any more. I can guarantee you this, at my age if i'm jumped on by any race White, Black, Green, Purple. I will defend myself with any means at hand. If this guy which BTW is half hispanic is found in the wrong, try him and prosecute him with the full extent of the law. If he is not, accept it as we do and get over yourselves cause reparations as your already getting from the present govt. ain't gonna last forever. Wake up, smarten up! Study statistics but you have to stay in school to do that. The more some of you talk the more ignorant you sound. And for God's sake study English instead of ebonics. Good Lord...

You made a lot of good points but did you have to say "go back to Africa" to people who didn't come here voluntarily once again? When people of European decent become dissatified about this country, goverment and law enforcement do you tell them to go back to the countries of their ancestors if they don't like it here? White people smoke dope, sell crack and won't or can"t get off their asses and get a job either. Can you try to imagine what it must be like for the African Americans who would just like to live "The American Dream" and not have to go through this crap periodically? Some of the worst of us are the ones that take an incident like this and milk it mercilessly for their own agendas.

From what I've heard, the facts in this case are somewhat less than clear. Perhaps we shouldn't form a lynch mob and rush to judge just yet. Has the Duke Lacrosse scandal taught us nothing? Don't let racial tensions overpower rational thought.

Oh please, it was a child in a hoody and a horrible person who was paranoid, and I'm sorry to say, probably racist. "Omg black guy in a hoody HE'S DANGEROUS!!!" There is absolutely no reason for this kid to have lost his life. Throw the book at this guy, or lock him in an institution for being dangerously paranoid. the child, and the family deserve justice.

In the Albany, NY Times Union, yesterday, and accessible from MSN is the story of Dashaun Terry who with his cousin, shot and killed his brother, 21 years old and a 17 year old in the same incident. This was a black/black crime committed in 2010 and sentencing was completed yesterday. No one was convicted of the murders. The defendents were convicted of gun charges and no will be serving time for the murders.--------Where is the concern over that case? Where is the outrage? Where is the sensational, inciteful media coverage? Nobody but the immediate family cares if black people kill eachother?------- And where is the Hispanic support for Zimmerman; name and skin not Hispanic enough? Is everybody some kind of a racist?
