Man holds knife to wife's throat in horrific 6-hour standoff

A tense standoff in which a Thai man held his wife hostage with a knife to her throat ended after six hours when police used a Taser gun to disable him.

A crowd gathered to watch as 30-year-old Sakdawut Hamsiri threatened his wife, Thawee Naiyanit, on a street in Bangkok.

Police are pressing charges against Hamsiri in connection with physical restraint and narcotics usage, The Associated Press told msnbc.com.

His wife was sent to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Mind altering drugs. They make a nice person into an idiot.

Poor woman. Six hours? Too long. Wonder how much abuse she had to take before this standoff. Must have been the snipers day off.

Or, the sniper couldn't get a good shot?

You have a point, more spectators than a small town football game. And closer too.

How idiotic. A sniper should have taken this guy out after 2 hrs max , Maybe the police in Thailand think it is better to wiat until he cuts her throat . Waiting until they could zap thie jerk with a tazer is irresponsible police work

Your full of crap. The only thing irresponsible here is your statements. The Thai police showed how it's done. Our 'police', i.e. pigs, would have happily killed the guy.

And it's a simple analysis of events like this that show which culture is REALLY superior.

Having lived and worked in Bangkok back in the '80's the police handling of this issue isn't surprising. They would rather have talked the guy down or used a non lethal (taser) method of disarming him. Thais are not violent by nature. This guy was for sure high on something. I'm pretty sure Thai Swat was ready to take the guy out but the shooters finger would have cramped up before getting the order to shot. Plus, as noted, it was a crowded scene. The guy wasn't going to kill her - he was playing for the crowd. Cops finally had enough.

This is why we practice head shots.

Here in the U.S. the man would have been shot.

                  Think about that....

What I want to know is how did he hold the knife while lighting his cigarette? Pretty good trick!
