San Francisco photographer Phil McGrew says he has been trying to make a picture like this since he moved there two years ago. Thursday's violent storm finally allowed McGrew the opportunity to make the picture, but he says he made it from inside the window of his apartment because he didn't want to get his camera wet.

San Francisco photographer captures incredible Bay Bridge electrical storm photo

The Mail Online reported on Friday that an incredible eight bolts struck the Bay Bridge in San Francisco last night which was captured in this incredible shot by photographer Phil McGrew, who took the photo through the rain-soaked window of his apartment.

Mr McGrew, 49, was shocked at the striking image which shows the split-second moment of electric forks hitting the span of the bridge.

I would think that a complete inspection of the Bridge will be done to check for any damage or structural Problems. Unless Caltrans is too low on cash or their Union Contract will not allow this

Don't need it, the bridge gets hit all the time, lighting rods connected to grounding cables get the job done.

Massive earthquakes and tsunamis, tidal waves, blizzards and rain storms and, then, there's lightening. Such an electrigying event that mankind, fortunately, has failed to duplicate. It's a damn beautiful picture, though, and like others, I counted nine strikes! One would have been super cool, especially with all of the bridge lights. I'd rather stare at this picture for hours and hours than to look at one more "sighting" of Sarah Palin (oops! my bad!). Seriously, it's a dynamite flick, one that one can only not know when the opportunity for such a shot will appear. It's sort of hard to be ready for something like this instance. Great job in sharing with humanity the powers of nature!!!!!

Amazing shot for sure. But the comments of "God putting us in our place" are ridiculous. Give it a rest and just enjoy a fantastic shot.

Cool pic. I was wondering if there are any going from the ground to the sky? I heard they can sometimes travel across the ground & then go back up, not sure how. I think this pic also deserves an "Awesome".

The last tower on the left of the picture has two hits. The faint strike after that is not on the bridge. If my memory is right the bridge dog legs to the right just after that tower. 8 strikes is correct, but who really cares this is a wonderful picture.
