Inspired by a Hollywood western, a Spanish dating association is trying to slow a population drain from the country's beleaguered central villages, introducing bachelors to women bused in from the big city of Madrid with hopes of ending a bride shortage.
Candeleda, a town of 6,000 on the banks of the picturesque Lobera River, hosted a weekend fiesta to welcome 68 women for a meet-and-greet with the village's single men. Ancient cave paintings show Candeleda has been inhabited for some 5,000 years, and resident Jose Miguel, 67, said he would hate to see its population dwindle after such a long history.

If the photos are an indication of the age of the men and women hoping for a continued population - the town will vanish within a generation. Whoa....
Sounds like San Francisco for other reasons.
If a man's sperm is still "vital" and a woman is still "fertile" age doesn't make any difference.
I expect the majority in this photo of women will be bussed back to their
towns. Those are some very unattractive women. No wonder these women
are single and looking.

It doesn't take an attractive woman to make you happy in a marriage. There is the problem with most men. An attractive woman is when we are young, once we have children we lose shapes unless the genes are skinny forever...beauty is skin deep...do you know what that means? More than that you marry a beauty, and she needs even more money than you can provide to keep her satisfied.
This has me a little worried; women only seek relationships where they're getting something in return. I dread to imagine what they really want from these old men; the lucky ones may find a bride that just wants companionship. The rest are better off staying single for the rest of their lives. Women + power = bad. No good thing can come from this.
Look guys stick to a beer in one hand and use mother thumb and her four daughters and be happy.:-)

1. Cheers. 2. Rejoice. 3. Embrace. 4. Review his home or assess his home. 5. Review legal personal document, e.g. DMV or driving lic. 6. Talk and walk. 7. Do some chores with him. 8. Relax in music . . . 9. Schedule another appt. 10. Looking good, continue the relationship. 11. Or fish another one.
12. Check the designated person's history, from finance to criminal and medical background, especially alcoholism, before diving in.
13. Then prepare a hint of proposal. 14. Financial attachment.

Interestingly enough, this situation was depicted in a famous Spanish film called "Flores de otro mundo." It depicts a similar situation in which a small Spanish town buses in potential brides from the city.
Funny that they would use a photo of a 77 year old talking to a 30ish looking girl. I wonder if that's typical. If so, Madrid must have an overabundance of desperate women. Why don't the guys just go to Madrid once inawhile? It's not that far away.
Sounds like the Military Academy I went to in the 60's. We had no girls so every Friday evening they bused in a bunch from local private schools. The one they bused in were the leftovers that had no boyfriends and no prospects. They were desperate and we were horny. It worked well for all concerned. Midnight came and the were bused away, never to be seen again! Worked for us.
If both sides are willing who are we to complain. This is a nicer story than most of the horror shows on the internet. I hope this squeezed out a race hate article.
I'd like to have a companion again; but been looking for two years now nothing doing.I guess I am just looking for a duplicate of late husband and can't find it anywhere these day's .My husband was special and seems nothing can compare with him not yet anyway.I look for qualities he had and in others its just not there in anyone else or not where I live. I moved to new state and new town to be near family when husband passed away and I'm not around people I grew up with everyone is strangers to me that makes things difficult.Maybe someday I can move back to state I was born in ; be with relatives and life long friends then maybe I'll find someone and again I may never find that special person ever again.

Why is everyone picking on Bernardo? I think he looks pretty dapper for 77. How do we know he isnt someone's wingman? I think using your grandpa as a wingman is a pretty good idea.

Come on commentor, handsome men here...you can't get a woman unless you can take care of her...get real. It's been that way since the beginning of time. That's why your folks taught you to work, and be educated.
What makes Baldman an expert on prostitutes? At least they are in control of their lives, probably make more than any husband I've had. And I heard from many men that prostitutes make good wives. Men make women prostitues, either by abusing them, or lieing to them, or not being faithful, not earning enough money, and I include jealousy here, both will need trust and confidence and truthfulness.
That goes two ways though women can be the same. i was taught to be a housewife, the young girls now can't cook, can't keep a home, won't paint their homes, don't know how to decorate, nor save money. And they think they have to look like a movie star...
These women have a good thing coming for them, chances to be happy.
There are more married women who act like prostitutes than single. There are many cases out there.
Wow! I can't believe the bitterness that I am reading... Whether a woman is mexican or american, a girl needs to feel respected as much as a man does. Give a women the respect that is due them, and you will find that 90% of women will love you forever more... Who wants someone who is so full of bitterness from past relationships (whether they are man or woman) to stand beside??? Sounds there are a lot of counseling needs in this group...get over it, and behave yourselves!!
