Reuters reports — Sudanese warplanes carried out air strikes on South Sudan on Monday, killing three people near a southern oil town, residents and military officials said, three days after South Sudan pulled out of a disputed oil field.
A Reuters reporter at the scene, outside the oil town of Bentiu, said he saw a fighter aircraft drop two bombs near a river bridge between Bentiu and the neighboring town of Rubkona.
Sudan leader says he will teach independent South a 'final lesson by force'
Weeks of border fighting between the two neighbors have brought the former civil war foes closer to a full-blown war than at any time since the South seceded in July. Read more.

Sudanese air force ???? This is one of poorest counties on earth and they have an friggin air force. Do they have a navy too? The world is so war crazy right now that even counties like this are being armed. We better not get involved in this mess.

Most arms manufacturers are privately held, so unlike publicly traded companies, they do not have to disclose their source of income except to the Internal Revenue Service, which is prohibited from sharing that info with other govt agencies or the public.
Actually, back in 2008 pirates siezed a freighter loaded with weapons, to include T72 tanks, that was bound for the rebel forces in South Sudan, though the cargo manifesto said Kenya. Those would be weapons from Russia.
The US went ape over it, because we didn't want the rebels armed.
In 2011 those rebels became the new Southern Sudan government.

Considering that the US doesn't do anything about Darfur (no matter how much Clooney tries) I'd say we consider ourselves better friends with North Sudan.
The stupid South Sudan started the war by occupied the disputed oi field before they were forced out by the North. There is nothing wrong with the North punish the South for its mistake (messing with a stronger foe).May be the South Sudan people can overthrow their stupid goverment and start over.

The oil field isn't disputed, it falls within the South's borders and is, was and has always been property of S sudan(For as long as S Sudan has existed: less than a year I think) and is the reason a million people have been displaced and 100,000 killed and another 100,000 starved to death fleeing their ancestral family homes and villages to escape the war the North started over their desire to steal the oil. Outside interests armed BOTH sides as a way to free up more land (through it's abandonment) for more drilling, which will go to whomever lasts the longest (lives the longest) so the weapons were practically given away to the North, including russian MIGs (since they'll just let anyone start an oil well anywhere) and sold to the South in fewer numbers. As for messing with a stronger foe and getting their just punishment: very anti-American of you 'Ted', I guess the British felt the same when we declared our Independence and according to you, they were right....so, why are you here? Go 'home' to England.

John Holt, thank you for your intelligent comment. Most Americans assume any nation in Africa is poor and uneducated. If they were not so bigoted and would spend time researching and learning about these humans, they'd find that... they are just as intelligent as any other humans. And that some of these countries have much oil... and like you said, most is under-developed mainly, because of the ongoing civil wars caused by the greedy leaders. Stupid, but dumb, Africans are not!
80% of the oil in the Sudan is in South Sudan. Currently, under the agreement with North Sudan, they split the revenues 50%-50% because South Sudan pipes the oil out through North Sudan.
Perhaps Putin has another idea of how to pipe the oil out?

Perhaps with Putin's help, that agreement can be re-negotiated more favorably with Northern Sudan?
South Sudan appears to be Putin's baby, it appears he wants to contest oil access, both there and in the arctic.

Opening Scene;
We see the Outside of the United Nations Building next we see a man dressed in a suite carrying a brief case walking into the building he approaches the Desk of the Chairman of the United Nations, pulls out a very large manila envelope and hands it to the Chairman. The Chairman opens the envelope, reads the paper work and scratches his head, looks up at the Special Carrier with a bewildered look on his face and says; Wow this is an Extremely Unusual Request and it comes from very unusual sources this is a First for me.

It appears that they are following up on an idea that originated from a Film Script Writer in America who came up with an Idea of writing a short Film Script he Calls "Children Seeking World Peace" The writer posted it on line and some of the Country Leaders around the World liked the idea so that they implemented it.

Every Country in the World picked two Young Students from one of their schools a boy and a girl to represent their Country and are asking for a "SPECIAL UNITED NATION'S MEETING" that will be attended by all of the Leaders in the World but this is the Catch.
The adults are not to speak at this meeting, only the Children will be allowed to speak at this Special meeting called "CHILDREN SEEKING WORLD PEACE"

Scene Two;
We see the inside of the United Nations building where many young children are standing paired off one boy and one girl facing all of the Adult Leaders from around the World these Children are from all walks of life all different nationalities and all dressed differently.
Every Girl is holding a small pot containing a different flower in it in one hand and a small shovel in their other hand.
Each Boy is holding a small pot containing a different kind of plant in one hand and a small shovel in his other hand.
(all of these flowers and plants are beautiful and very colorful)
Every Boy & Girl from their Country are wearing Name tags with their Countries names on the tags. The Children are just standing there in silence.
The inside of this building is silent at first then we hear whispers coming from the Adult Leaders, what is this all about, what do they want, this is strange.
Next we see a girl step forward from the row of children following behind her is another girl and a boy they are all three standing there for a minute and the room gets silent.
Then the boy speaks,
I have been chosen to speak on behalf of all of the Children in this room. We are standing here before all of you representing the Worlds Next Generation, Your Worlds Next Generation. We only have a few words to say to all of you here today.
All of us had several things that we wanted to say to all of you today but we all decided that words are not enough without all of Our WORLD LEADERS making a Solid Commitment to end all Wars in Our World Today ! ! !
So, we only have three words to say to all of you here today... " PLEASE JUST STOP"
(one of the girls standing next to this young boy translates this message in all languages)
The three young children stand there for a minute in silence then one of the two girls step forward she says, we only have one more request to ask from all of you in this building today, please follow us to the garden area located just outside this building.
(the other girl translates this request in all languages)
The other children in the building follow the three children exiting the building followed by the Adults.
Third Scene;
We see all of the children lined up still holding their flowers and plants in one hand and their shovels in their other hand they are paired off one boy and one girl standing along side of the garden rows facing their Countries signs that are placed in two foot sections of their Special Garden.
(we see all of the Adult Leaders standing around this garden in groups whispering to each other we can't make out what they are saying to each other but they have a confused look on their faces)
Next the same Girl that spoke earlier in the building is holding a flower in one hand and a small shovel in her other hand says, I would like all of the Adult Leaders from their Countries to stand in front of their Countries signs facing each of us. (translated by the girl standing next to this girl)
The Adult Leaders line up in front of their Countries garden signs facing these children then every child bends down at the same time and digs a small hole in the ground in their two foot section of this Special Garden. (each two foot garden section now has two small holes dug in them and everyone is silent)
Next we see the same girl that spoke earlier stand up after digging her hole in the garden she hands her Adult Counter Part Leader her Potted Flower and says, each one of these Flowers that all of us has brought here today Represent WORLD PEACE for Our Future.

All of the Children Around the World requested this SPECIAL UNITED NATIONS MEETING to beg all of the Leaders of Our world to help us Plant our Flowers here today to end all Wars in our World Immediately and all of the Plants that the Boys brought here today represent Commitment To Do So.
(translated again by the girl standing next to her)
Next we see the Boy that spoke earlier at the meeting hand his Adult Counter Part his potted plant then the Girl that is speaking looks over at all of the other Children that are still standing next to their garden and she nodes her head.
Then, All of the Children say the words together, in their own languages in a loud & begging tone."PLEASE JUST STOP"
Next, We see all of the Children reach in their pockets, pull out a small bag and pour out a few of seeds into each of their Adult Counter Parts hands.
The Girl speaker then says,
we are giving all of you our seeds to take home with you so you can plant them in your gardens as a reminder of your Commitment all of you made here today to; END ALL WARS In Our World IMMEDIATELY..THESE SEEDS ALSO REPRESENT FORGIVENESS for without forgiveness there can be no PEACE, so please pass these seeds on to your transgressor so the Peace Process can begin. (translated by the girl standing next to her)
Last Scene
We see all of the Adult Leaders bent down next to the Children planting the Children's Flowers & Plants together in their "Special World Peace Garden" Located in Front Of the "UNITED NATIONS BUILDING"

I may be wrong, but isn't that one of the things they are fighting over? I thought I saw a report where the South had taken a region that had oil reserves. Surely this would make it worthy of humanitarian military intervention if it were true. China and/or Russia would still come in and claim the resources, so the world balance of the U.S. doing all the heavy lifting and then walking away from any of the benefits would remain intact.
On the other hand, the fact that there is a South Sudan was supposed to have ended the violence and genocide. The moral of the story is that you can intervene, have the U.N. waste the worlds time and our money etc. but the violence continues, just under some other guise.

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa and I am still living and working in West Africa. Sending in foreign armies or arming a country/rebel group is not a simple solution and will not instantly end an uprising/war in any African country. If Americans knew the history of Africa and did a little research then they would see that America does not have the best track record when it comes to invading a country or arming a country/rebel group. What is going on in South Sudan is horrific/sad but we should let North and South Sudan resolve their differences on their own. If there needs to be a third party involved then it should be the African Union...not Europe or America. Even though people of African countries do not have the same opportunities or advantages as we do that does not mean they aren't hard workers or smart. People of Africa are smart and hard workers so don't underestimate them.

Yes, Sudan uses MIG 29 fighters and SU 25 ground assault jets provided by the Soviet Union.

Actually, the reason that the US doesn't intervene in Darfur, or Southern Sudan, is that Northern Sudan is our buddies.
No matter how much Clooney asks Congress to help, we aren't changing our allegiance, so we will not stop the killing in Darfur or Southern Sudan.

The reason South Sudan broke away from Sudan is their killing and aggression towards anything non-Muslim. Living in the diversity New Jersey has to offer, I need to say that of the Muslim's I've met, peace, mutual respect and loving ways are the basis of their religion. Of course we never hear of them, only the radical extremists. In the comments also is mentioned the frustration of the Christian take on things, and our country has it's share who will hate in the name of their God. What a misuse and personal opportunity a minority take for themselves in the name of a loving God. Believer of any faith or not, any extremism for personal attention or profit is the real enemy, and messes with the values real faith abiding people people live by. They are given a bad name because of the news-making others.
We can come together from all different backgrounds, those who base our life on mutual respect, for our commonality and against making our differences a reason for divisiveness. I guess it's a kind of intolerance of intolerance, something we can all do with those around us, and well, if we're polite but bold. I'm in.
