Subscribe to RSSThe Global Marijuana March goes by a number of different names including World Cannabis Day, Worldwide Marijuana March, Cannabis Liberation Day, Global Space Odyssey, Ganja Day, J Day, and Million Blunts March. The event got its start as the 5th Avenue Pot Parade in New York somewhere between 1970 and 1973, as there is some question as to when the first official march really was. Today more than 250 cities around the world participate in the event on the first Saturday in May in an effort to push for the legalization of cannabis.

I do not want it to be legalized because I don't want people to be able to smoke it around me or my children. If they were just going to do it on their own, in their homes or whatever, I'd be fine with it, but the fact that I have to walk around all day and inhale tobacco smoke does not make me happy. I don't want to have to start avoiding public places because of this too!

Why would people smoke it around you? Or your children? Do people not realize what legalization means? It will have to be regulated (I am assuming no sale to a person under 21), in separate stores, operating via licenses through the state, paying an enormous amount of taxes that would undercut criminal organizations (Now your children will be safer than they have ever been). Secondly, tobacco smoke has restrictions in many states (i.e., no smoking in restaurants, within 10 feet of a public building, sporting events, smoke free schools, etc.) It would be ludicrous to think that marijuana would somehow sidestep these regulations (just like some states have no public drinking). In my honest opinion, as well as numerous health professionals, law enforcement officials, economists, prestigious universities, and informed and concerned citizens like myself that marijuana legalization should happen, and hopefully soon.
