Dalai Lama receives 2012 Templeton Prize, gives away $1.7 million award

The Dalai Lama received the 2012 Templeton Prize for his work linking science and wider questions of faith and religion. The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader was given the prize, which comes with $1.7 million, today at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Most of the money from the award will be given to Save the Children, and the rest to two charities which provide research and education in science and Buddhism.

      hey i may not shave my head and wear a colorful clothing esemble but I also encourage religious harmony and scientific harmony so where is my prize, another politicaly correct show, disperse the prize to people that are getting foreclosed on or pay for groceries for folks that need it.sheesh..life must be grand for the " Dalai Lama" not to worry about where his next meal will come from or if he has a roof over his head, come on lets get Real,enough of the dog and pony shows.People are hurting they don't need a colorful fella getting more money when it's needed else where.

        You didn't actually read the article, did you? He's not keeping the money. The Dalai Lama escaped execution and has been forced to live in exile since 1959 fighting for Tibet and social injustice everywhere for 50+ years. He has refused to accept Chinese citizenship. He's also the most lucid religious leader to exist in a time where religious fundamentalists of every kind are gaining too much traction. We need more Dalai Lamas and fewer Pat Robertsons. When you've done what the Dalai Lama has done, maybe you'll win the Templeton Prize.
