Chen Guangcheng, the blind Chinese dissident and legal advocate who recently sought asylum in the United States, is lit by a studio light during an interview in New York on May 24.
In one of his first interviews since arriving in the United States last Saturday, Chen Guangcheng told Reuters the rough treatment of his family and supporters who helped him escape house arrest last month was "entirely against Chinese law."
If authorities can promptly investigate and prosecute those lawless officials who broke China's laws, then possibly China can rather quickly move onto the road of rule of law -- Chen Guangcheng
Chen was jailed for a little more than four years starting in 2006 on what he and his supporters say were trumped-up charges designed to end his advocacy. He was released in 2010 but remained under house arrest and officials turned his home into a fortress of walls, cameras and plainclothes guards.

Blind activist Chen Guangcheng arrives in the U.S. after dramatic diplomatic wrangling. WNBC's Gus Rosendale reports.

The activist is very brave but also he is still human; and instead of being continually persecuted, he has found a way to save his family and his voice has been protected for he can speak later on behalf of those under the harsh policy of the one-child-policy.
One-child policy has created a lot of victims; and hope that the government of China will see the problems.
@Billie-2352729—as usual you and your type have no idea what you are talking about. Before an inept backyard person can give an opinion or advice fist they must know the material in its fullest and then expound their wisdom on the subject. If you ever leave your moral backyard and travel the world your education will surely grow and when you mature you will begin to better know how and why the world turns—until then you mouth has got the best of your brain..
Now this may seem a bit snarky, but this man came to America through the auspices of the US government (who paid for his transportation?) and is getting medical care. Who is paying for that? Why is it that this gentleman (and I do admire him) gets medical care when we have millions and millions of our own citizens who cannot afford it?
And supposedly he will be studying here....who is paying for that? We have so many American citizens who are drowning in student debt...is that right?
Even though this man is a good man who has suffered unjustly, shouldn't charity begin at home? When all our own people have the right to decent and free healthcare and all worthy students can obtain free education, then is the time to take care of others. But not now.
USA should help its own citizen illegally blocked in China for 4 years come home!!!
