Members of the media center mourn the loss of their cameraman Abdalh Ameed Matar, who was killed in an attack earlier that day on May 31. The Syrian army launched a full scale attack on the city of Homs, Syria. Hundreds of rockets and many wounded and dead were treated inside a mobile field hospital clinic located in a city under siege. Two to three rockets hit the field hospital wounding a few medical volunteers. Despite the threat of being killed by mortar or rocket fire these volunteer doctors and nurses face arrested, torture, and certain death if they are captured by the Syrian regime. These doctors and nurses work under harsh conditions with little medical supplies that are smuggled into the city from Lebanon. Despite these odds the doctors and nurses are able to see over 100 patients per day and conduct life saving operations daily.

Residents of Al Qusayr in Homs,Syria gather for the funeral precession of 13 people killed in yesterday's assault on the town by Syrian forces. Among the dead was local camera man Abdelhamid Idris Matar who died while filming a Syrian tank advancing on the City of Qusayr. The dead were laid the rest in the Martyrs Cemetery on June 1.

Civil wars are anything but civil. Over 400,000 people died in the US civil war. Deaths are unavoidable as are atrocities from both sides. Sadly neither side is fighting for freedom, they're just fighting for their own brand of tyranny. Let them decide for themselves which side is more deserving of rule.

Ken, if it were even close to a fair fight, then maybe your suggestion would be viable, but it's not, its a slaughter. You seem to be the same type of person that during the second world war, would have turned a blind eye to the extermination of more then six million jews...
If you don't stand up and take a side in this genocide, then you are no better then the people committing it. The fact is, if the world is going to survive, then its time to rid the planet of all tyranny....
richard, Go right ahead and 'take a stand', go over to Syria, and fight for what you believe is the right side. Comparing what is going on in Syria to the extermination of six million Jews is ridiculous. I haven't heard of any death camps or mass exterminations have you? Don't believe the propaganda from either side. Just because one side says it is true doesn't mean it is true.
Conflicts are going on in other parts of the world too richard, Syria is just the 'cause du jour'. Why is Syria more important to you than what goes on in places like Darfur, Somalia, Egypt, or other hot spots in the world? The US can't afford to be world police. If you feel differently then pick a cause you are willing to die for and by gosh, go over there and die for it. Just don't sacrifice other American lives just because something offends your sensibilities.

It is not Americas place to fix other countries problems. We are NOT a world police. And in stepping in or staying out we would be hated. I would rather be hated and have out troops safe then send them in to fight their war and then get killed by the people they helped save.
It is always easy for people to say "send the troops" when it is not their son , daughter, Father , Mother, Brother, Sister or friend being shipped into a very real war zone. Plus people are stupid and think that its a good idea till they see a picture of a dead troop ... then they yell "ok we are done".
Watch your reality TV and keep your opinions on that alone. War in another Mid-Eastern country would kill this country. We cannot afford to be in another war.
To hell with the money! This was the same Syrian population that was sceaming death to America a few years ago! Go ask the Chinese for help!
It is MORE the problem of the Arabs than it is an American problem. If it is such a moral wrong being committed by Assad, then let the Arabs in the region who don't like him get rid of him. If they don't it isn't our business.
I feel sorry for the Sunnis being killed in Syria by the Allawites but is hardly comparable to the Jewish Holocaust. It is not an attempt to exterminate an entire ethnic group by force, but merely to force a dictatorship on an entire ethnic group that is resisting.
The Arab states should get together and stop these atrocities....but what, they do not value human decency, they are animals that stone woman and children. They condone husbands to disfigure and torture there wives. They have different morals than say Christians. DO NOT SEND MY BROTHERS to a war that is not ours!!! I wouldnt feel the need to go so i wont ask others to do so. The mid east unstable , yes, is it knocking at my door NO. Alqaeda did and know we hunt them down and kill them but let these Arab states figure it out. Its not our fight. Of course it hurts any decent american to see woman, children and people in general killed and tortured but we cant be the world cops, maybe if all were on board to stop these thing around the world, to stop the savagery and wrong so to make this small world a peaceful place then perhaps there could be hope, perhaps this would be a big enough reason for me to die over there.
I find the difference in customs interesting. I am headed to a classmates wake tomorrow and everything will be spotless, clean and....normal I guess. There, wrapped in a sheet, blood soaking through, prayed over and buried. No point to be made-just glad this sh!t ain't happening here.

Leave them alone! We go into Syria and the Syrian people will hate us just like the Iraq and Afghanistan populations. Let them wipe themselves out and save us the time and the trouble! If the Arab states want to do something about it, then let them! It's not our problem, and we are not the world's private police force!
