Rohingya Muslims, trying to cross the Naf river into Bangladesh to escape sectarian violence in Myanmar, look on from an intercepted boat in Teknaf on June 13, 2012. Bangladeshi guards have turned back 16 boats carrying more than 660 Rohingya people, most of them women and children, since June 11.
Hundreds of Muslim Rohingyas have tried to flee in rickety boats to Bangladesh after days of sectarian violence in the Myanmar town of Sittwe, Reuters reports, but Bangladesh's foreign minister says the country will not take them in.
Muslims flee burning homes in Sittwe
Major Shafiqur Rahman of the Bangladesh Border Guard told Reuters by phone that 110 Rohingyas in three boats had landed in Teknaf on the southern tip of the Bangladesh mainland in the early hours of Wednesday. The two countries are separated in the area by a river that flows into the Bay of Bengal.
Fighting breaks out between Muslim and Buddhist groups
"They landed on our beach defying objections by the coastguard. We have detained them all, mostly women and children, and will push back later today," he said. Read the full story.

Rohingya refugees from Myanmar are seen on a boat while they try to get into Bangladesh, as members of the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) try to push them back out in Teknaf on June 13, 2012. The UN Refugee Office (UNHCR) has called on Bangladesh to keep its borders open given the rapid escalation of violence in the northern Rakhine State of Myanmar, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters on Tuesday.

Muslims, those so called peaceful, loving people, show once again their true face. They do not aid the poor refugee among them, instead they throw them back into danger.
1. Media is highly partisan. When few hundred Muslims are affected, they magnify their propaganda with pictures of weeping children and women.
2. In the same Bangladesh, constant genocides of minorities have been going on. The affected run into millions. Not many care for them. In Pakistan it is worse.
3. After ruining Bangladesh, these people sneaked in boats to Myanmar and other places. Then they start their regular business of stealing, looting, rapes, kidnapping, Islamic radical activities, and terrorist actitivities. Here they join with Paki terrorists. Sometimes they get back. Here media jump in with all their trumpets.
4. Now they are going back in similar boats. What is the big deal?
These people look pretty harmless.
My mom was nineteen, I was three, and my brother was one year old. Dad had been drinking heavily, as usual, and was beating on mom, as usual. Mom fled to her parents, her children with her, and they turned her away, AT THE DOOR, because they were afraid dad would come there and beat on them. This story reminds me of that time and the lessons we learned in the following years, that there is no welcome for refugees/victims. And that's the truth.
Followers of Islamic cult, especially Sunnis, are fast marching backwards to their seventh century desert tribal days of rapings, lootings, killings and genocides of non-Muslims.
We see Muslims inventing problems in most of the non-Muslim nations.
Even in the US, we can notice these actions!
When Muslims form more than five percent, downhill march starts.
Muslims are inventing problems in Myanmar as in Thailand, Philippines, India and other places.
Most of the Muslims in Myanmar are from Bangladesh. These Muslims have ruined Bangladesh beyond repair and now they are sneaking or creeping into neighboring nations.
When they form more than 30 percent then it is Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Lebanon (few decades back)
In Muslim majority nations, they kill each other!
Better wake up before it is too late on inventions of problems by followers of Islamic cult!
Johnathan, I think you need to think a little more before you post. I personally know many Burmese families from most of the religious backgrounds represented in the country (including Muslims). I am a Christian and disagree with much of what Islam has to say, but I think it is naive at best to think that this fighting in any way has to do with Islam beginning its destruction of Myanmar. This country already has had the longest ongoing civil war of any country and it isn't due to Muslims. Please don't use complex political situations in countries that you know little about for you soap box. Thanks.
Jonathon - you speak as if these pictures are not of humans but of vermin. Please stop - when it comes to survival - we all are the same - have some compassion.
If they want to move into Myanmar, I suggest they change thier religion to Buddhism. If they want to be accepted by the Myanmar people then changing to thier religion would be the first step. The Buddhists have begun to realize that one way tolerance is a sure path to cultural suicide.
Afghanistan was at one time Buddhist. The ancient Buddhism in Afghanistan was an interesting fusion of vestigial hellenistic culture and iconography, and eastern religion. The (2) giant sandstone Bamyian Bhuddist sculptures were examples of hellenistic style sculpture, and Buddhist mysticism. The Muslims invaded Afghanistan in the 9th century AD. By scripture and doctrine they were intolerant of other religions. They forced conversions and defaced the religious iconography. When better explosives were available the obliterated the already vandalized remains of the 1500 year old sculptures. The professional Islamicists, the Taliban, and their dedicated scholars had deemed the ancient sculptures as Kufr idols. The world was watching and remembering. The Buddhists are finally extinct in Afghanistan.
How can a people of a bellicose religion insist on attacking and defacing all other religions, then expect to be treated with rights and respect when they are refugees?
The refugees in Myanmar chould change thier religion to that of thier new land. Then their plight, and world opinion might change.
I have empathy with the desperation of these people, but I understand the necessity to defend your culture if you want it to survive.
When will you get it? They're just human. They just want to live. When will you ever learn?
The Statue of Liberty faces out into the World saying,
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses, yearning to breath free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."
oh my lord! these humans need help ! we cant turn a blind eye and continue to not provide aid! we as americans stand for haman rights! God who will come to our aid if ever need be. its our duty as an evolved society to help.
They aren't here - and Save the Children and other Aide groups are on their way. Bangladesh won't take them in - they will have to suffer til other nations respond. It is not the US who is turning them away. We will send aide. There is help and it's on the way. It is dangerous for everyone in Myanmar now. Christians alike.
Yellow journalism at it's finest.
Staged photos - note the taut anchor rope in the second photo "while they try to get into Bangladesh." (Okay, everyone look down and to the left now!)
"Rickety boats?"
