Nik Wallenda completes tightrope walk across Niagara Falls

Tightrope walker Nik Wallenda walks the high wire from the U.S. side to the Canadian side over the Horseshoe Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario, June 15, 2012.

Reuters reports: Nik Wallenda, a member of the famed "Flying Wallendas" family of aerialists, completed a historic tightrope crossing through the mist over Niagara Falls Gorge on Friday, stepping from a two-inch (5 cm) cable onto safe ground in Canada to wild cheers from onlookers.

Wallenda made the walk from the U.S. side of the falls to the Canadian side, a journey of 1,800 feet (550 meters) over treacherous waters and rocks, in a little more than 25 minutes.

Yeah...he had a safety tether....but....he didn't fall......that takes skill. Any of you think you could walk that far on a tight rope.....across Niagra??? I really don't think so. STFU.

It is an awesome achievement! Even at the sides of the Falls the wind and mist are incredible--I can't imagine what it is like on top of the Horseshoe. Look at pictures from on the Maid of the Mist to get an idea. The safety harness was not his idea and probably made it even harder for him as he is not used to it being there. Why are some of you trying to downplay this remarkable feat--Jealous Much?

Shows what belief in God and in yourself can do. Way to go Nik!

Ooooooooooooo how daring with all the new high tech gear attached to the special high tech wire and safety precautions. His ancestors are rolling over in their graves on this one.

And what's the most daring thing you have ever done? And I don't mean in a video game.

It still takes major cajones to do this even with a safety rope.

Here's a clip of a Chinese guy walking a tightwire between 2 hot air balloons (also using a safety rope)...and he fell: wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=eKrDhhH_yeo

I think the entire event was fantastic. It was a pleasure to turn on the television and find something different and inspirational to watch. There was no point to what he did.....why?? He is a daredevil, it was for pure entertainment. I know that it also stimulated the economy in Niagara Falls, ny and Niagara Falls, Canada. Something that both areas need. I think he promoted a positive message that you can make your dreams come true with hard worth. Bravo! He didn't want to wear the safety wire, they made him. If you didn't like it or didn't enjoy watching it, you could have changed the channel. Good luck with your next stunt!

            Way to go Nik W.

A person's attitude toward life effects them more than it does others, and it's truly astounding all of the people on this board who are jealous of others. They are shining examples of people with a poor attitude toward others because they have such a poor attitude toward themselves. It's obvious they don't like themselves, they're unhappy, and are human magnets for unpleasant experiences all the time. They live a very narrow, darkened, and frustrated life; living defensively, simply because they take a defensive doubtful attitude toward themselves and as a result toward life and others in general.

It's sad that in this country (America) we see too many examples of this when there is the possibility of so much more.

            Think about it...

....still canadian government rules or not the safety harness made all the build up hype to the walk pretty weak in retrospect...his grandfather wouldn't have worn one!

The famous Flying Wallenda's, to see this family do this pyramid it was crazy and to my understanding they always did it without the rope. There's a movie about this family and it involves them doing the pyramid. You can see them on this link.

For the ones saying that it is not as excited to do this act with a safety belt or a big net down waiting, just in case it's stupid. Take a look at what happen to Karl Wallenda in Puerto Rico on 1978, I was 8 years old when this happen and I saw it live and to this day I still remember how shocking it was, horrible. Wish he had a safety belt then.

Bravo to his grand son for crossing the Niagara Falls.

I saw the Wallenda family in action, back in the 60's. They were, and still are, amazing!

You can say all day long that someone MADE him wear a teather and maybe they did. The point isssss that he WAS TEATHERED! It wasn't DEATH DEFYING if your hooked to a teather! Yeah he walked across a two inch wide cable with a 40 foot pole in his hand but if your teathered so what! Lots of people could do it if thats the case!

...but he did not falter, therefore a courageous and impressive feat. The safety line, still "new", can be returned to Wal-mart for a full refund. And to those of you hoping to see failure, go back to your meaningless lives sitting on the couch waiting for the next Jerry Springer show or something of equal important to you.
