I think it was about 2 years ago I remember reading about the firefighters acquiring oxygen equipment that would work with animals. I'm glad to see them putting it to use.

No comments from the people who are irate over the park ranger losing his life while on a rescue calling the climbers "stupid, Ignorant etc.."?

I mean, "these" stupid people ran out of their house and the firefighters "risked" there lives saving their pets. I mean good job and all but, nobody got hurt.

NOW, if a firefighter died during the rescue (of pets), I guess then I'd see those kind of posts.

Glad nobody was hurt and the pets are OK. Great job firemen.

VEry nice to see everyone made it out. If they only needed a little oxygen, that is also great news. Thanks to the firfighters, they have a tough task to face day in and day out.

Three cheers for EVERYONE involved, even the ticked off Ms. Kitty up there!

I volunteer at an inner-city animal shelter that's about 75% pit bulls and I have never been bitten by one. Cocker Spaniels and poodles are the absolute worst.

Amanda, I have a rescue pit, that was dumped. By the time she adopted us, she was a bag of very sick bones. Maggie is now a perfect dog, except for the fact my older mixed breed refuses to get along with her. We are a house divided, a happy house, with the cats loving both sides.

Thank you for your work at the shelter.

Amanda-I worked as a veterinary assistant during college(back in the late '80's) and I'd say the exact same thing. Granted, if a pit were to bite you you'd loose some flesh but I was never threatened by a pit, those little f*ckers, chow chows, and cockers were the ones you really had to watch out for. 25 years later it sounds like not much has changed regarding some breeds.

Mark are you a complete jackass or what? Who are you to assume that we don't pay our share of taxes - and really, what does that have to do with this article? It's about our firefighting heros being compassionate and SHOULD BE a heartwarming story. But once again, trolls like yourself have to come here, go off topic and cry about their personal agenda. Don't want to pay taxes? Great. Go live elsewhere, we won't miss you.

Typical, the dog is taking in the oxygen and looking as though he wants to say "thanks man". The cat however, likely scratched the fireman's face clean off and hissed at the oxygen.

    I love dogs.

The cats appreciate it just as much as the dogs do. Of course, the dog is a pitbull, so as soon as people realize that, all the anti-pitbull crowd will be making their usual ignorant remarks, just like the cat haters.

I think the kitty just doesn't like cameras, as she has no problem with the firefighter carrying her to safety in the photo before her hissing photo. I am not a big cat fan either, for one I 'm allergic to them, but give him/her a break, she just went through a very traumatic experience, still scared and then this black thing is in her face that she doesn't recognize, poor thing. She is still a precious little animal and although some cats can be unpredictable and temper-mental, there are many that are sweet and loving. So glad to hear everyone is safe! Hooray to the awesome firefighters for saving the day!

Mark - It never fails that a negative person will try to find something negative in...almost anything! Every creature lives, they don't run on batteries, and they deserve and value their lives as well as we human beings do. Respect all creatures, especially dogs and cats. They give us so much, their lifespans are so short, yet they ask for so little.

Also, if you've never had a pitbull/mix, you will never understand why so many people defend them.

      #3.8 - Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:02 AM EDT

I would venture to say that almost everyone on this board pays taxes. If you or your family were in a house fire and firefighters came to your rescue, would you be grateful? Do you think firefighters check your tax records before they decide to come and rescue you?

Don't worry so much about taxes. Death and taxes are unavoidable. Believe me, if there was a way I could avoid paying taxes, I would. I'm not lucky enough to be one of the 1%, either!

We have way too many teachers and police. We could get by with half as many and never notice the difference. Government jobs are just another form of welfare.

Kai: Is it not true that we hear a constant refrain from Rethuglicans (enabled of course by the other half of the DemoThug party) that public workers (indeed, government workers everywhere - except the Pentagon, of course!) are lazy, overpaid, and need to have their pay/benefits cut?

                      Is the above not true?

No Republicans are not trying to get rid of firemen (and teachers and union jobs) but are working feverishly to lower their pay, benefits and ability to negotiate.

UGH! what republicans would like to do is make sure that the teachers are teaching the students, if they are not then get rid of the ones that aren't. There are many teachers (not all so don't get confused) that are not doing their jobs. They are able to hide under the teachers union to keep their jobs. Personally I see nothing wrong with this. We should all be accountable to do the job we are hired to do, especially teachers whom are in charge of the education of our children. And no they are not working feverishly to lower pay, benefits, and ability to nagotiate. I work for a company that has a union and surprisingly 99% of the employees want out of the union but because of the laws is difficult to do and costs money. So no unions are not always good. From what I've noticed in working under this union is they are there to protect the lazy

Logically, if all cats are vindictive and not gentle, no one would have one. There are a lot of sweet ones around. Maybe you give off bad vibes since you expect them to behave badly and have been scratched before.

Sorry to hear that your dad was abusive towards the defenseless. It is very difficult to understand how people can consciously be cruel to animals, just like it is difficult to understand how people can be cruel to children. They are so precious and innocent, they should be receiving only love. It seems to me that you are changing the cycle of violence by not being abusive yourself or staying away from abusive situations. I too hope you meet more kind men and women along your journey through life.

Getting cats out of trees is a waste of firefighter resources. How many cat skeletons have you seen in trees?

Exactly denver. The bill to rescue these pets was probably over $100,000.
We need to cut police and firemen by 50%.

Who do you think pays for their resources? There are plenty of other areas where there is plenty more waste. Anyway, this isn't an article about getting cats out of trees.

Actually, Denver Bill, to my knowledge- most fire depts won't do the "cat in the tree" rescue any longer. There are services for that and they will refer you to them. Get back under your bridge troll.............

Well Deery, to effectively use firefighting resources and help with training, the next cat gets blown out of the tree with a hose. Nice kitty.

No, that's one mightily cheesed off kitty. Look at her eyes. She'd like to rip the photog a new one for taking her photo with muddy paws. She's not fighting, though, which sort of surprises me. I wouldn't want to put an oxygen canula on my cat!

Oh, I agree! One time our cat got caught with a plastic bag around his neck - I had just taken groceries out - and started running around the house with the bag flapping. I tried to catch him to take the bag off, my son and his friend were laughing uncontrollably, when the cat finally jumped on our dresser and got the bag off himself. You could not get near him for two days, he was that pissed and scared. Our dog came up to him like, "Whatsa matter kitty", all concerned, and I thought he would take her face off (I think he thought she was in on it!) He meowed as if he were from another planet, making sounds I never heard him make before. I grabbed a towel and put him alone in a spare bedroom with food and water for 2 days, talking calmly and sweetly to him, until he finally calmed down.

They say that "hell hath no fury like a scorned woman", but in this case it was a cat with a bag around his neck! This was about 10 years ago, but the memory of it is etched indelibly in our family history!

Her ears weren't back, and she was being held in a pose that would have made it very easy for her to escape if she wanted to. I'd argue that she isn't hissing, just b*tching. Myow!

Of course you're an animal. Humans are animals.

Then again, given some of the comments you've made, maybe you're not that far off the mark. On this planet, there is animal, vegetable, mineral. So if you are not an animal, and if you're alive, I guess the default choice is vegetable.

Except that would be insulting the broccoli...

This is why I have an ADT system that will alert fire and police if the alarms sounds, especially if we are not home, I want them to save my little Rat Terrier. I also have a sticker on my front door that lets the fireman/police know that there is a pet inside.

I think you just don't feel good. The taxes are a happenstance occurance, with no relation to said emotional unbalance. Did you feel good when Halliburton was charging 1000 per toilet paper roll? Probably. Sweeeeet paper!

But I own stock in Halliburton.
