Reuters reports — Fire gutted one of the most revered Sufi Muslim shrines in the Indian part of the divided Kashmir region on Monday sparking clashes between police and angry Muslim protesters, witnesses said.

At least six people were hurt in Kashmir's main city of Srinagar when police fired teargas at stone-throwing protesters enraged over the destruction of the 350-year-old wooden shrine which housed a relic of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani, an 11th century Sufi saint, police said.

Rioters torched a fire engine and threw stones at firefighters and some members of the media. Read the full story.

So was the fire set on purpose? Is that why they were protesting? And what exactly was the reason to stop fire fighters from reaching the shrie and perhaps putting out the blaze? And then they set one of the responding fire fighter trucks on fire?! Realy? Does that make sense to any one?

This 11th century -a historical Peer Dustgeer Sahib shrine in located in the summer capital Srinagar and was gutted in a blaze Monday morning local time- authorities are ascertaining the cause of the fire. The 11th century Sufi Sage and all the relics are safe-they are locked in a fireproof vault. The old wooden structure suffered immense damage. Reverence for the 11th century Saint in Indian held Kashmir CUTS ACROSS RELIGIOUS BARRIERS Muslims call the Saint Ghaus-e-Azam; Hindus Kahnoow. The shrine is revered by both Muslims and Hindus and it would be very helpful for outsiders to ascertain the facts-even in Kashmir.

Pakis have a good solution to all these problems.

They have been blasting them (Sufi, Ahmedia, Shiites mosques) while people are praying on Fridays and then blow up the hospitals where injured are being treated!

This sounds like the work of the brainwashed zombie Muslim terrorists members of taleban,al quida, hamas or hezbollah types. The Sufis are on of the few glimmer of hope from the Muslims.Of course the demon Islamic terrorists would set their mosque on fire and try to do them in. They can´t tolerate anyone who has a more open.less doctrinaire idea of Muslim and doesn´t support violent deadly sharia jihad.Don´t take my word for it.Read about the Sufis. who yes,!!, are Muslims but have a gentle, artistic peaceful vision. Most of mainstream Muslim oppose them or at least keep their distance from them.More reason for most of the world to feel appalled and sick on this attack on a Sufi shrine.!

You bet! Most of the problems of the world are due to the autocratic, seventh century desert mindset, bigoted and barbaric Saudi ruler and his 5000 princes and princesses.

Net results of Saudi, Kuwait, UAE, oil companies and their lobbyists directed 1991 and 2003 Iraqi wars are

    WINNERS

    1. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and other rich ME sharks became richer by manipulating oil prices too high.

    2. Oil companies and their lobbyists also benefitted. Oil prices, which were hardly $30 a barrel before 1991, shot up to $140 a barrel.

    3. Since 2003, future traders, rating agencies, Wall Street and oil companies and their lobbyists transferred five trillion dollars from oil importing countries to oil exporting nations.

    4. Rich Sunni ME sharks (Saudi Arabia in particular) funded Salaffi and Wahhabi mosques and Islamic radicals and terrorists all over the world. These Sunni Islamic radicals and terrorists are rampaging all over the world. World’s 80 percent of problems are due to them.

I am reminded of the line "Why is loud stupidity so infectious?" All it takes is one person blaming a different group for a crowd of stunned people to become a riot. What would happen if a major Christian structure was burning for unknown reasons, then one idiot in the crowd blamed the Muslims/Jews/Hindus/Little Green Men From Mars? The situation would likely get just as out of hand. I'm going to focus on the locals putting themselves in danger to try to save a revered holy site. That shows courage and devotion.

Reading the full article, I wonder if the protesters were the local Sufis or some of the more radical Islamist instigators?

I Do not wish to jump to conclusions on a sensitive issue like the present one.All my friends who have commented so far have jumped to conclude, despite of the fact that they were neither present there nor are aware about the scenario prevailing in the valley. Yes, one thing is quiet visible that the angry crowd which stopped the fire buster van and pelted stones at the police was more due to the shock and anger rather than relating it to their being a part of the conspiracy. We can see many trying to save the shrine as well, so it is wrong to suggest that they were a part of conpiracy. To me, atleast the violence which broke after the Holy SUFI SHRINE caught fire was more because of the shock and spur of the moment rather than what some of friends above have commented, on their themselves being a part of the conspiracy. What happened? How the fire broke out? These are some un answered questions, but yes, one thing is for sure that the sufi saints are worshipped by both Hindus & Muslims alike and no denying that they are not pro Violence in the name of Jihad. But concluding some Jehadi Faction to be behind the fire would again be jumping to conclusions. If it is not an accident, then who so ever has done it may escape the Law made by man but cannot escape the law of ALMIGHTY. ALLAH is very kind, but not to those who believe in destruction and violence for selfish reasons, then be it from any religion. Protestors were Locals, just like you and me, who were shocked and angry & relating them to be sufis or Islamist Instigators, would not be fair, to the best of my knowledge and belief.ALL IN ALL ANOTHER SAD CHAPTER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND.
