Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews participate in a prayer rally and protest against the Israeli government's intention to recruit Yeshiva students to the army and civil service, in the neighborhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem on June 25, 2012.

Thousands of Ultra-Orthodox Jews joined an early-morning prayer rally in Jerusalem on Monday to protest against government moves which could bring to an end the exemption of yeshiva students from mandatory military service.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that Pini Rosenberg, one of the speakers at the rally, said: "Instead of preparing the prisons for immigrants from Sudan, we suggest to those haters of religion to prepare 50 thousand places of detention for yeshiva students who will refuse to be drafted."

A number of religions have the attitutde I'm not against war just against fighting in them,

Though an early supporter of the Vietnam War, Romney avoided military service at the height of the fighting after high school by seeking and receiving four draft deferments, according to Selective Service records. They included college deferments and a 31-month stretch as a "minister of religion" in France, a classification for Mormon missionaries that the church at the time feared was being overused. The country was cutting troop levels by the time he became eligible for the draft, and his lottery number was not called.

President Barack Obama, Romney's opponent in this year's campaign, did not serve in the military either. The Democrat, 50, was a child during the Vietnam conflict and did not enlist when he was older.

...I should point out that the *mainline* Orthodox Jewish community in Israel provides a great many of its young men for the Israeli Defence Forces... It is the "Ultras" that demand all of the power and none of the duties...

I just don't get it. I don't really have a right to have an opinion since I am a U.S. citizen, not an Israeli, however, it seems to me that the orthodox get a stipend to study and enrich themselves, without working or serving in the military. I would like to hear from one of them on what the value is that they are giving back to society with that funding? And on top of it, they have tons of kids.

The Ultra sound remarkably like ultra conservative 'Christian' sects who are about as Christian as the Jews and radical Muslims. None represent their religion acccording to their teaching. Marx took his 'to each according to his ability to each according to his need' from the Acts of the Apostles. And it was Christ who said '..render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's..." He didn't say to refuse to pay taxes. Each religion has its crackpots. If they have a draft, they have dodged it long enough.

So Israel has their own Ted Nugent, Mitt Robme fill in your favorite Republican here — — — — — problem, interesting. Of course we could bring back conscription and FORCE the republicans to give up their first born LOL, like that would happen, they would just write an exemption for their own. It would go something like all men must sign up for at their local draft board UNLESS Daddy is a Republican then you "little man" are exempt because your SPECIAL. Just bring your signature "crusty Ted Nugent panties" to your local draft board and we will get you your special "exemption". And remember even if they call you a chickenhawk YOU ARE SPECIAL, there is no one else quite like you.
