Sudanese refugees face growing health crisis

A Sudanese family rests along a road they have been walking for the past three days, on July 6, 2012 along the border road inside South Sudan. Many refugees have been walking for 4 to 5 days from inside Sudan to get to Yida refugee camp from the Nuba mountain region where they have no food and are fleeing the on-going conflict.

Bolis Jamal, 3, stands near his temporary shelter suffering from malnutrition at the Yida refugee camp on July 1, 2012.

Refugees in South Sudan are facing a nutrition and disease crisis as conflict and hunger in the neighboring Blue Nile State of Sudan continue to drive people across the border.

Jonathan Miller has spent the last week in Jamam, another camp nearby, and reports below on the looming health disaster which many blame on the United Nations' failure to act sooner.

Channel 4 News: Sudanese refugees tell of their flight from persecution

The violence that has followed last year's division of Sudan has spawned a refugee crisis that aid workers say is the worst they have ever seen. Jonathan Miller of the UK's Channel Four News reports.

Why are we largely ignoring their plight ? Yes, they have no oil. Yes, they are not Muslims. But they are human beings who want to live their lives according to their traditions. Don't they have human rights as every other human being in this world ? It has been going on for too long; it is genocide. Why are the UNITED NATIONS ? It is an atrocity.

Sorry, the United Nations is busy bypassing sanctions so they can sell prohibited items to Iran and North Korea.

And, oh yeah.... they are also busy finding all sorts of things to condemn about the policies of the United States of America... you know, the country that basically funds their useless ass.

Where are the Jesse Jacksons and the Al Sharpton's? The Black people are witnessing the horrible consequence of their failed old country! Step up Blacks, you were Lucky to be taken away from that abyss albeit through slavery centuries ago. Now donate monies and your accomplished educators, doctors, and young laborers with strong backs to the cause in your Motherlands, bring the poor wretches along, do not abandon them! Do not expect the UN to care, take the responsibility on your own shoulders! Go back to the country of old and make a difference!

Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson Are far to comfortable where thay are to get involved, and this is one more reason to blame it on the honk -y , and say thay dont care. Thay would prefer to instagate ritious behaviour amonug black youth on a national scale and perpetuate hatered here in America.

thats why blacks should be glad they are over here-look at their "brothers" can't even get a drink a clean water, but the ones over here sit on their butts waiting for a hand-out.

We should help them and forget about people who are starving here in America. Maybe we can send them marital aids as well to stimulate them to have even more kids that they cannot support.

That series of pictures, tugs at my heart. Such hopelessness and despair. I hope the photographer, picked up that poor couple and their baby along that road (1st picture) and at least saved them the walk to the squalid camp.

Black Sports Stars, Rappers, Celebrities, Newscasters, Talk Show Hosts, all highly paid Blacks, unite and help your fellows! This isn't a honky cause and nothing will get done, this is a Black responsibility. Man Up!
