Shawna Thomas, NBC News -- GLENN ALLEN, VA -- In a soaking wet blue shirt, President Barack Obama delivered almost his entire stump speech Saturday to an enthusiastic audience that had waited through a downpour to see him speak in a town outside of Richmond.

The president apologized early in the speech for messing up the hairdos of women in the audience.

“We’re going to have to treat everybody for a little salon, hair visit after this,” he joked as the rain fell.

While I understand this is all politics, Obama is doing to Romney (relentless attack about outsourcing, and offshoring) what Bush 43rd did to John Kerry (Swift Boat) and Bush 41st did to Michael Dukakis (Willie Horton).

Even though some of my liberal friends and Independents would think that this might be over board, there is no other way to win this fight except to define Romney as an out-of-touch with common man. If Obama doesn't take the offense, Romney's campaign would stick it him. I am glad Obama is coming out swinging on this with 118 days to go before the election.

TS is right. This is hardball. I love that Romney is whining now that he's on the receiving end after he spent months torpedoing his GOP rivals in the primaries with the most negative ads possible in numbers that overwhelmed them. Ask Newt and Rick how THAT felt. Pay back's a bitch, ain't it??

America has been waiting for our President to get tough. Enough is enough! Way to go, Mr. President!--& keep 'em coming! These are powerful images of the most powerful man in the nation standing deluged in the rain.

Can't imagine Romney risking his gel do for that!!

I love Obama. Let's give him a Democratic House & Senate!!!!

tea

I respectfully disagree

in that he is NOT swiftboating. Kerry was in fact a decorated vet wounded multiple times. His purple hearts were earned.

The Bush campaign...the campaign of a man who avoided going to Vietnam by using Daddy's connections to get into the National Guard (they didn't fight abroad) so he'd be safe...attacked a Veteran and smeared him with lies.

It's seems similar because Obama is using Romney's supposed strength against him>but that is the only similarity

Obama is not lying. He is raising doubt with actual facts. Check out his ad. Each statement is backed up by a source.

Not sure if any truth is stretched but I do read widely and I've heard in reputable sources all of Obama's accusations. Romney is using his business history as if he has experience creating jobs and he does NOT. What he did in business was take over other businesses for his own profit and for his shareholders profit. Jobs creation was not part of the intent, nor part of the concern. EVER. It was not in the picture. Ending jobs sometimes was if it made them money ultimately.

While Mitt sits by his pool in NH, Obama plays the long game. Can anyone imagine Mitt out in the rain like this?

Oooo, me, too! Smart, funny, graceful & gracious--works, doesn't it? And if we just give him the Congress he needs, he can finally do what needs to be done.

Let's be frank. We live in a world of limited resources. Unlimited profits--whether in health care or in our election campaigns--is unsustainable & morally wrong.

Rise up to defeat corporatism around the world--let's roll up our sleeves and begin it right here, right now, America!!

I think Obama and his team know this. Wise of them. Everything is to be compared and contrasted in the minds of voters, even if Romney isn't around

one imagines

-Romney cancelling on all those people who stood there for hrs waiting to hear the speech

-Romney standing there with an aid holding an unbrella over his head

-hard to imagine Romney's 'do in the rain. It wouldn't look as good as Obama's close cut hair. Which of course, looks unchanged.

I am sure Obama is aware of the contrast. It helps he's not unfit out of shape (neither is Romney, to give him credit at his age) if he's going to have a shirt stuck to him. I bet he knows he looks good out there.

good for him. About time a Dem is media saavy and plays the long game. I also think, as an aside...of Obama as that fat smart kid living with a stepfather (father having deserted him) in another country trying to learn the language. A country who is racist against the dark skinned (as Indonesia did back then) Not so easy. This is that little kid's Karmic payback...on top of the world now...in his element.

he actually thinks that I think

if we are brainwashed Obama is to

            he is sincere

            unlike Romney

who will in fact obviously say anything to be President. I do remember the Republican Primaries, you see. ANd he was my Governor. Lol. Quite a contrast. Two different men "speaking from the heart"about matters important to them

the only thing the same is that both Romney's believe that cutting their own and their friends taxes is a priority, even though they are already the lowest ever in history. This guy supports the Ryan budget which means, he thinks it's ok to raise taxes on the very poorest Americans who are barely getting by as it is. Rather than raise his own taxes back up to even Clinton era levels. Kids will literally be harmed and go hungry because of this stupid plan...caused by someone who never knew a day of want or deprivation.

Obama is for real. The Right mocks him for having, as first job out of college, been a Community Organizer. Really, for a kid just out of college paying back loans (which he did have), to do that is an act of service. That job doesn't pay well and what it is is to enpower other people and not get any credit for your work.

this guy does care about other people. We see that in him. He is sincere and that is what we react to. Some Black Americans react to the fact that it is astonishing that they are seeing a Black President in their lifetime. Some of those people in the crowd lived through Jim Crowe, and were denied the Vote, and had to sit in the back of the bus, and walk in the gutter if a white person passed by.

So if he's like a rock star or a son to these people (I noticed many in the crowd were Black), cut them some slack. The contrast in their own life arch and the lives of their parents if not them...is just astounding...and there he is in the flesh, the manisfestation of their dreams.

The people waiting for Obumer outside in the rain must be desprite. They remind me of people waiting for their entitlement checks and saying "please Mr President, please do not put me to work. We want our free healthcare. Let the working class take care of us. Some of us are union maggots that are entitled to freebees".

I don't remember anyone ever calling President Bush "George"

when we were so pissed off at him for trumping up a false reason for a war and dragging us into it (that'd be Iraq...no WMD, No association with Al quida or 9/11).

The left thought him to be stupid, a dry drunk, a bumbling fool.

but we didn't disrespect the office by addressing the President by his first name. People disrespect Obama much more than any President before.

You say his first name to disrespect him. It is disrespectful to the office and also to the solid majority of your fellow citizens who voted for him.

No, I would say that Baracks false God Allah loves him in his opinion. YHWH will respect someone who respects his people Israel and that has not been the case thus far. You made the statement that "People disrespect Obama much more than any President before". Barack has disrespected this Nation(and his office) MUCH more than any president before by circumventing the will of the people, although Clinton was a distant runner-up. Don't let the WH door hit you on the way out Barack, and please leave the silverware.

Hey Dale what God do u serve? if u are a "so called "Christain" you need to do more reading than talking, love thy neighbor... remember that? Judge not for he shall be judged... remember that to? remember what christ stood for and the background that his 12 Desciples was and that he too was persecuted as well, you have no clue what it takes to be a true Christian, as one day you will see when its ur time to meet your maker, what have you done to make this world a better place? all you done is preach hate, that is whats wrong with people so much hate and that is the opposite of what Christ teaching is..

Ah yes.....a picture worth a thousand words..... the "amateur" in such desperation for his failed presidency and administration begging and pleading in the rain, for heaven sakes. What a pathetic figure, now confronted with four years of failure and then having the gal to "beg" America to rehire him? Wake up America, we were duped once by a bias media, and those more concerned with self enrichment then the welfare and well being of "all" America. Are you, and is America really better off today then four years ago??....gross unemployment, especially for the black community, America now the laughing stock of the world, and a president so inept and unqualified the leaders of the free world simply disregard him. More could follow....but the writing is clearly n the wall....Obama has got to go , not only for America but for all the free world.
