Reuters reports — The Olympic torch arrives in London on Friday a week before the Games begin, and organizers hope the media's focus will shift from security fiascos, travel disruptions, strike threats and poor weather to the thrill of the sporting contest.
Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Olympic organizing committee and a gold medal winner, said people were "overwhelmingly positive" about the buildup to the greatest show on earth, while London Mayor Boris Johnson told critics to "put a sock in it, fast". Continue reading.

It mind boggles me why people still go to see this stuff. With all the TV, internet right at our figer tips, you'd think this event would have went the way of the dodo bird.
I know, who would want to go to a once in a lifetime world event, when we can just sit at home on the computer......................?
A lot cheaper. A penny saved is a penny earned.
Chirs150, it sounds like you live your life vicariously rather than "experiencing a moment". I you can afford it and mae the time, it is a "once in a lifetime experience"! Saying that does not mean you have to go to every Olympics, either.
Didn't we boycott a Moscow Olympics over their occupation of Afghanistan, now NATO occupies it...
I daresay NATO doesn't occupy all that much of Afghanistan, for better or worse. In most of the country you're still pretty much free to stone women to death, etc., or whatever the local theocrats say is good to do.
