A look at the Arizona lawmaker's rise to prominence — from high school to Capitol Hill.

Reuters reports: CHAMONIX, France- Former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, still recovering from wounds after being shot last year, traveled high up into the French Alps on Monday with her astronaut husband Mark Kelly.

Giffords, who still uses a wheelchair much of the time, was on her first trip outside the United States since she was shot in the head by a gunman in January 2011 as she met local people outside a Tucson supermarket.

She rode the two-stage cable car to a station with spectacular views of Mont Blanc and other peaks in France, Italy and Switzerland. Full story

Gifford for VP. Don't care which party. She has more national experience than that twit from AK had and a lot more character.

Absolutely beautiful! Now here is a woman who, regardless of hardships she was given, prove that nothing will stop her. And a definite testiment to courage, a love of life and the comforts and love of family! Congratulations to Gabby for making it to the top!

      GT -

I think because "scale" tends to imply climbing as opposed to riding up in a cable car. But either way, it's a great picture and her smile just lights up the whole view. Good for her!

Gorgeous photo. Cheers to Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly.

As for Mass Chemist, nothing like a naybobber to find fault in everything. Doesn't matter, Naybob, how she "scaled" the French alps, the fact that she keeps fighting, pushing forward is what matters.

I agree with the smile comment, JoAnne ... once you see that beautiful sparkling smile and the beautiful sky ... it's just an awwweeee moment! And Jody ... isn't that we're all trying to do daily? keep fighinting and move forward (great comment). This entire story nothing but .... Beautiful!

Wow, that really is a horrible headline.

      Reuters sure messed it up.

Good for Giffords. Good to she she is unconcerned about the political optics of a Swiss Vacay.

But do tell Jody - how do we interpret your 'naybobber' fault finding comment against Feisty and NewDay's attacks on Anne Romney's MS treatments?

      Spanky,

      1. Chamonix is in France.

      2. Gabrielle Giffords is not currently serving in Congress nor is she running for political office so political optics be damned.

      3. There's nothing wrong with a vacation in France...or Switzerland for that matter. I believe the issue is if your dumping gobs of money into Swiss banks as a tax haven.

Maybe so Noid, but I like the mountains in the gold old US of A just fine.

Hoping to take another run up Whitney next month.

But then again, given the political 'optics' from last article {"MS Anne"} what difference does any of it make anyway?

But then again, who wouldn't want a fat account in Europe?

      Phine,

Its good to see you're posting again, I hope you're feeling better.

Have you ever been on a cruise? I have been on a few, one with my husband, I was smart, never got to close to the railings. I didn't want to push my luck.

Seriously, when you feel better you should take a cruise, its very therapeutic.

Dems are just as much 1% as the Reps.

Yes they are! But they are not the party that is blocking everything, this is just 2 bills GOP blocked last week. Now tell me what would be wrong with passing these two bills there has not been any help from the GOP on anything since 2007. Look it up all voted are recorded there is proof of this just look at the voting records in these years, these votes cannot be taken back or disputed they are on record in both the House and Senate. Since 2007 the GOP has voted NO and Filibustered 95% of every bill that would have put us back on the track

Reid and McConnell spar over 'nuclear option' aka Filibuster Rule

            http://thehill.com/video/senate/186145-reid-and-mcconnell-spar-over-nuclear-option

Want to see what your adored GOP in the Senate Filibustered:

Measure Number: S. 3364 (Bring Jobs Home Act )

Measure Title: A bill to provide an incentive for businesses to bring jobs back to America.

            YEAs 56, NAYs 42, Not Voting, 2
            http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=112&session=2&vote=00181

You see to break a Filibuster you need 60 votes or 2/3 of the Senate, normally you would only need 51 votes to pass a bill.

@ Randy L. AZ Resident: How sad that even in such a positive article as this someone has to make it a political gabfest. Save it for the Daily Beast and appreciate a non-political testament to Gabby's recovery from the hateful attack on her and others. And, yes, I would have the same opinion if she had been a Republican Representative.

Republicans filibustered the 2 bills above #9.1 making total, marking their 97th filibuster. This is way we can not get anything passed to help the country.
