Boris Johnson, London mayor, stuck on a zip line

London Mayor Boris Johnson got stuck midair on a zip line Wednesday during a celebration for 2012 Olympic Games.

ITV, the British partner of NBC News, reported that Johnson had to be pulled the remainder of the way by people on the ground.

According to The Telegraph newspaper, Johnson was the first person to use the zip line, in Victoria Park, East London. "Get me a rope, get me a ladder," ITV quoted him as saying. "I think the brakes got stuck.”

Britain's funniest politician taken very seriously

The Telegraph said witnesses reported that Johnson spent the approximately five minutes suspended in the air waving two British flags and leading the audience in cheering the British Olympic team.

The newspaper quoted a spokesman for Johnson as saying the mayor "remained unbowed" by the incident. "The judges will rightly be marking him down for artistic impression,” the spokesman said.

The cause of the incident was not immediately clear.

London mayor Boris Johnson attempts to make a dramatic entrance at an Olympic party—but gets stranded on a zip wire instead. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

TODAY's Natalie Morales takes a look at how Internet users across the globe put their own spin on London mayor Boris Johnson's zip-line snag near the Olympic Park.

--Apparently you do not get out much--Have you ever been to Tex or Miss/La/Fla, Ari, NM, never mind up and down the central west in USA, I have never seen in UK anything like the 3 rd world conditions in those states (people treatment)--or should we talk about my friends from Denmark who once a year fly to Chicago, to help poor people there for 3 weeks--and Baltimore as well--I wonder when Fox News is actually going to tell you people?.

--And how UK has Olympic ought to be their problem--or should it have been all US football--or is that US football really handball? I am confused, we aught to get that made one or the other type sport!

As far as empty seats, first of all who cares? if people do not show up, so what? Mitt Romney did not sit in all his Cadillacs last week-----

---Unfortunately maybe the UK now in the future will have police start to wear guns every day, so they like here can shoot and kill 2-3 people every day--- but at least in northern EU they will mostly be sent to jail then! (56 % of those types of killers do)

One mistake by the Mayor of London, one of the greatest cities in the world I got to visit and out come all the scum of the earth. Never mind that Romney is a retard born in a family that was expelled from the United States into Mejico for being polygamists and yet when will Romney tell us about growing up in Chihuahua Mejico? here he is telling the Brits how to run their show, which they are doing an incredible job, oh and I'm Argentinean by the way. Romney promoted the winter Olympics in the middle of nowhere a.k.a Salt Lake effing City, one of the weirdest places in the US. The funny part is when Romney the very next day, realizing that his view was not very popular, changed his tune and started conveniently praising London to regain popularity showing what a sold out he is and how he would go wherever the wind likes, a man with no convictions, no morals and no compass.

Why the hate for Britain? The ugly American comments are understandable given the hateful rhetoric put forth here. We have no reason to be so condescending toward one of the few countries in the world that have been so staunch in their support of ours!

Ugly is, as ugly does and the opening comments here are about as ugly as ugly can be!

The mayor of London stuck on a zip line for five minutes isn't even worthy of a headline, let alone reason to trash London's excellent work in hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics.

I am an American, I think that Americans owe it to themselves to at least try to behave with some sense of decorum, lest they be identified correctly as "ugly"!

Sighber - the hate for Britain is an extension for the innate hate red of anything or anyone different than "American," however that is defined. I have traveled in Europe and understand how we are thought of as ugly Americans. We visit foreign countries, don't bother to learn to say as much as "Good Morning" in their language yet expect everyone who comes here to speak English, we take our American "me first" attitude with us and shove our way through long lines, and we don't learn basic social practices such as in certain cultures there is an expectation that one should wait for a response when asking the question, "How are you." Don't forget, by their standards we're a bunch of gun-totin' outlaws. We are also rightfully made fun of for our ignorance. A guard at the Tower of London told the story of Texan who didn't bother to learn anything about what she was going to see and asked "Where was Sleeping Beauty kept prisoner?" Ugly Americans

I think it would have beem more amusing to see Obama up there with Johnson.....oh wait Obama will only go to the Olympics if the US Basketball team advances toward gold. Forget him supporting those stellar atletes like Phelps (most medals ever) or any one of the amazing young women on the US gymnastics team or the triumphs of any other medal holders that have competed. I suppose we should appreciate the fact that the President "tweeted" Phelps for his accomplishments. Seriously, can you think of anything more common that a "tweet". It was signed "bo"...isn't that the dogs name?

What did somebody say about "Ugly Americans?" Txmom, I'm sure nobody really cares what you think of the President tweeting Phelps. Perhaps it would be more appropriate yo ask Phelps how he felt. After all, the tweet wasn't meant for you. Let's not speak of common.

No Mo W....I think you should change it to No Mo BO....after all W has been out of office for quite some time and well the failures of America are now squarely on Barry's shoulders. In spite of what you say I think "tweeting" is dead common and well verging on narcissistic when it is a public figure (I can even include Sarah Palin in that assessment. I would think we could come to a consensus on that point at least.) So what would be true for Palin would certainly be true for Obama, wouldn't you agree.

Funny thing the "tweet" from Barry to Mr. Phelps was actually an article put out in a press release. If it is sent out as media I think it is reasonable to comment on it. The point of bring it up was just to say it would be fun to see Barry caught on a zip line. What I can say is I admire Boris for carrying and waving the British flag...cause we would never catch Barry waving an American flag now would we.

But not too proud to accept Obama support for Airport security, and have the opportunity to chew on the gristle of Obama touting to the world his graciousness to step in and save the day. I would imagine that deal came with a caveat that the Brits would dis Romney at every turn. Just one more pay to play at the expense of the American taxpayers.

Overall the Olympics have been going great. A small mechanical error in a zip-line (which wasn't part of any event) hardly means the Brit's needed Romey's advice. Unless he knows as much about zip-lines as he does off shore bank accounts and avoiding paying his share of taxes.

NoMoW....No with regard to Romney I don't see that at all. The responses by Cameron and Johnson were both an over-reaction to a sound bite. Go figure that Romney remarked about something that he has actual experience in and was taken aback by several incidents that made the news that should not have. The most glaring issues of appropriate security at the Airports was made an issue by our very own President trying to pat himself on the back.

Romney's remarks were valid along with the priorities that he mentioned in security...first the athletes, then the volunteers and staff and then the spectators. This is not new information and as I understand it certain guarantee's toward security are part of the whole selection process. Cameron's remarks were surprising, he usually is a bit more on his game than to spout off with some offhanded retort. After all to get to London there are for the most Part two International Airports available, when the games were in Utah we were able to support the needs and many more international ports of entry and domestic to get people in and out of safely. So his remark made little sense. I think he must have been embarrassed that they were caught short in the 11th hour and made to feel more so because the Obama administration made such a big deal about coming to Britain's aid like it was WWII all over again.

As for Johnson, he is just sort of a character so his bigger than life response was expected.

It is very "disconcerting" that a zip line through a park was not even tested before the public was allowed to use it, or was the mayor the test dummy? It is fortunate that the dummy simply stopped in midair and did not fall to the ground. Very disconcerting.
