Congo crisis exacerbated by heavy rains

Internally displaced Congolese children shelter from the rain under plastic sheets as they wait for aid to be distributed in Kibati in eastern Congo on Aug. 8.

U.N. humanitarian chief, Baroness Valerie Amos, trudged through puddles of muddy water on the outskirts of Goma in eastern Congo, to greet some of the 280,000 displaced Congolese who had rivulets of water dripping down their faces as they waited in line.

They were given a sack containing a blanket, pot, plastic sleeping mat, soap, sanitary towels, a jerry can and plastic sheeting to cover tiny huts put together with twigs and leaves. --Associated Press reports

Drenching rain punctuated by frightening bursts of thunder and forked lightning add to the misery of some of the 280,000 refugees from Congo's eastern rebellion on Aug. 8 in Kibati, north of Goma, eastern Congo.

This just makes me sad. No human being should have to be placed in these conditions. We have so much, and it is images like these that remind me of that and shame me when I complain about the petty and trivial things that I feel hinder my life.

We are all human being but why threat people from DR of Congo like this. They need peace. peace peace. Don't kill because of the minerals resources that are in the country.

How many people in the U.S. have parts of their homes they rarely use or use only to store the additional "stuff" they're not actively using at any given time... how much food is thrown away by the average household... how many cars does one movie star need... how much money is being raised merely to buy more hateful, lying political ads aimed more at confusing voters than providing any meaningful discourse of the issues... meanwhile these fellow human beings sit shivering in the rain with no food or shelter. There has to be a better way.

What really makes me sick is found over in the "Entertainment" section... in light of this suffering, who just bought another new house so they have somewhere to stay on both coasts? Who just bought their fifth car? Who just paid $50,000 to eat dinner with other people with more money than they know what to do with? Then turn over to the "Political" section and lets see how much money has been raised to put more hate-filled, lying political ads which add nothing to the country's discourse on the actual issues facing the U.S.?

Maybe we need to try some redistribution of wealth... like a bunch of spoiled brats, we sure can't handle our money on our own.

Sadly the children continue to suffer for the egnorance and corruption of the adults in the perpetual quagmyer in which thay are forced to live in, it is much harder with no means to obtain food and fresh water. America The Beautiful Will find a way to send aid of some sort. God Bless The Children.
