A boat, center, is surrounded by Japan Cost Guard's patrol boats after some activists descended from the boat on Uotsuri Island, one of the islands of Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese, in East China Sea Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012.
Reuters reports: Japan is considering deporting 14 Chinese activists arrested over their landing on a disputed island as soon as Friday in a move that could defuse a worsening feud between Tokyo and Beijing, Japanese media reported on Thursday.
The activists, seven of whom landed on Wednesday on the rocky, uninhabited isle in the East China Sea claimed by both nations, have been transferred to Okinawa for questioning by police on Thursday morning, public broadcaster NHK said. Continue reading the full story.

@!$%# them..lock them up..china has stolen Tibet and east Turkestan and occupied both sovereign countries illegally for decades...floods them with military troops and then persecutes the native people while Han chinese invade and assimilate the territories like the @!$%#ing BORG...don't let them take an island...this is all a bid over mineral and fuel rights for that area anyway....
well, I can see you have no clue about history whatsoever...but please keep that dumbness for yourself, we don't really need to know it.
Go back to Foxnews website, that place fits you more
The above is tantamount to say US has stolen Hawaii, Alaska and Californa and occupied them for decades.
Yup. We've done pretty well with them, too.
Get your history right. We didn't 'steal' Alaska or California. We conquered California (from the people who stole it) and we bought Alaska (from the people who stole it).
Also, review the history of the world. Nations take land from other nations, often taking whole other nations. It's how national borders have changed for millenia. The idea of signing a treaty to exchange land for valuable possessions (like gold) is actually rather new.
The DIAOYU ISLANDS (plural) are located in the East China Sea and China has claimed sovereignty over them -remember the Japanese Empire during WWII inhabiting/invading/occupying not only Manchuria but Indonesia,Philippines etc. There were 14 Chinese activists- 7 of them landed on one island and were arrested by Japan Coast Guard- on charges of'suspicion of illegal entry'- 5 of them were taken to Nasha Port,Okinawa. Chinese Vice For.Min. FU YIUNG called the Japanese Amb.to China Uiohiro Niwa and his counterpart in Japan T.Yamaguchi to immediately free the Chinese Activists.
Sengaku islands are located in the East China sea and so as Ryukyu island chain in which Okinawa belongs. Sengaku was included into Ryukyu Island chain back in 1894 and was used by the Japanese fishermen as a base for fishing. There was a bonito processing plant on Sengaku until 1945 with approx. 100 people working there. After the end of the World warII they left the island and it remains that way since. There is no record of neither chinese nor Taiwanese on the Sengaku. The end of the story.
P.S. The arrested Chinese activists are on their way back to China.
The Chinese have recently become very proud of their nationality, and since Japan invaded them (and kicked their butts) previously, there has never been any friendship between those two nations. China also claims the Philippines, Tibet, Manchuria, the Korean peninsula, part of Russia north of North Korea and part of Detroit, San Francisco and NYC, so there will be issues for a long time.
The barren rocks of the Senkaku Islands have been in Japanese possession going back to the late 19th century. The PRC has made no effort to make a claim on the islands until it was discovered that there were considerable natural resources lying in their vicinity. The claim the PRC is making for these islands is repeated in its greedy, grasping claims on the Spratly Islands (also claimed by Vietnam, Taiwan, Brunei, Malaysia, and the Philippines), the Paracel Islands (also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam), the Scarborough Shoals (also claimed by the Philippines and Taiwan), as well as various oil rich deposits located throughout the South China Sea. China is not interested in its territorial heritage as much as it is lusting after the resources located near these islands, most of which it has generally ignored for the better part of a century.
If historical ties are behind the tenuous claims the PRC is staking on these islands, why don't they withdraw their claim on Taiwan? After all, China did not include Taiwan among its territorial possession until the 17th century when they took it away from the Dutch. Justice is not what interests the Chinese, however. They are focused only on stealing their neighbors' resources from them.
They are heroes!
They are heroes!
robert sowers, you are the man
Weird. Why is anyone waving a Taiwanese flag? I would think that a mainlander would consider it a symbol of separatism, and a Taiwanese person probably wouldn't support China's claiming land masses it happens to like...
The DIAOYU ISLAND is claimed by China and all Chinese nationals, irrespective of their political persuation, firmly believe the island belongs to China. In fact it belongs to the Yeelam Prefecture of Taiwan. Since Taiwan is part of China, Diaoyu island also belongs to China.
When Porto Rico and Cuba is fighting for an island, which side does an American choose?
Now that's censorship.
Jake Darnell: It may well be the law, not censorship: it's kind of silly, but handcuffs are never shown by print or electronic visual press sources in Japan if the person in them has not been convicted.
14 Chinese vs. 500+ Japanese. One fishing boat vs. 30 Japanese warships. That is kind of funny! Next time, I will fly a small cessna-150 over the island, I wonder how may F-2s will be on my tail.
Instead of Sengaku, the Chinese should claim Kimoy and Matsu islands which they can see from the shore of mainland china. Oh, there is no oil around Kimoy or matsu.
If any chinese land on the island, japanese should roast the chinese and send them back to china, naming them as 'roasted ching chang'. Then the chinese will thank japanese for giving them roasted ching chang & eat it.
