North Korea's first couple drops by to see family's new home

An undated photo released by North Korea's official news agency on September 5, 2012 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, left, and his wife Ri Jol-Ju, 3rd left, as they chat with family members of Pak Sung-Il, 2nd right, a worker from the City Beautification Office of Pyongyang's Central District.

The family has moved into a new apartment building in Changjon Street in the North Korean capital. The first couple met other residents of the new apartments including a worker from the Kim Jong Suk Pyongyang Textile Mill and his wife, and the family of a teacher at Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering.

Isn't that cute. Little Napoleon, who inherited the North Korean Prison Camp from his father, who inherited it from his father, is dropping by the neighbors for a visit. How cute. Too bad most North Koreans can't say boo without fear of arrest, torture, death. When is the genectically distorted family line going to disappear from the human race and let the North Koreans have some type of life. I guess when Raul & Fidel go, too.

Great to see the new leader is a man of the people and appears to be concerned for the their quality of life / wants to see them prosper. Maybe a democratic government is soon to follow....

And after his quaint little visit to the quaint little couple in thier quaint little clean apartment, they are quickly shipped back to thier slum where they used to live. Off camera is the moving crew, at least a dozen armed guards and producers with big white boards printed with "SMILE OR DIE, ALL OF YOU".

What exactly are those round wicker things on the sofa? Are they to sit on, or to be sure nobody sits on the sofa?

Why is the Un-ster clutching that boy, are they going to take him home with them? Mom and Dad do not look so pleased, kind of a reluctant smile, however the young boy looks pleased, as if the Un-Ster told him he will now get to play X-Box 24x7 at his place.

Hmm, the leader living in an apartment along side citizens, I'm actually respecting that guy a little for that.

Hmm you do notice everyone is sitting on the floor - probably not enough furniture to accommodate all those folks. Pappa did the same thing visiting families at their homes - also always new homes - just means nothing much will improve for these folks until the entire leadership is tossed out

Talk about a 'staged picture' the only ones smiling in this pic are the current dictator and his wife.

Nobody in NK smiles anymore, and why should they, they have absolutely no future to look forward to for their children and certainly not for the parents themselves, they look as if they have been working in the labor camps and existing on barely enough food for one to survive on.

Come on NK get with the frikking program, nobody cares how many missles and guns you have, that makes no impression with the rest of the world.

Try feeding your people if you want to do something good, providing them with decent living quarters and stop straving them to death.

Do all of that and then maybe the world will recognize you for being a true leader of people, right now you are a leader of a massive army and its weapons.

It's too soon to tell, but there may be something different about this 3rd generation leader. A photo op is just a photo op, sure. But the emphasis he is placing on domestic issues is encouraging. Plus, he seems to want to really earn his legitimacy -- perhaps as a benevolent dictator. And North Korea could do a lot worse than that.

This guy appears to be a little more open minded than his past family, Or at least he has a better PR man. Either way, his wife is a little hottie :)

A lot of dreamers are still distracted by the cheery optics coming out of NK. Make no mistake, this man is a puppet of a glorified Junta, and these photo ops are VERY carefully crafted to placate the world in the face of ongoing human rights atrocities. Not that I expect NBC to preface any story from the region with this kind of footnote.

Wow ...no shoes ..sitting cross legged on the floor ...in such an informal setting ...

Not something i would have expected. Maybe this guy is different. Maybe he is the one who will turn this country around...

          One can only hope ....

Kinda reminds me of Obama. Smile, smile, pat on the back, joke handshaking and all the while cares NOTHING about you or me. He only cares about himself and destroying America.
