Thousands gathered Tuesday in New York, suburban Washington and rural Pennsylvania to mark the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. NBC's Ron Allen reports.

We should have rebuilt the two towers, bigger than ever, in the same location.
Some people felt that way, but the (vast) majority prevailed. The land is part memorial as most of the families and friends wanted, part commercial so that the city does not lose the office space and tax revenue, and 100% beautiful for the millions who live in the city and the millions more who will visit

Last night on the eve of Sept 11th I walked the streets of my town, my Collie quietly padding along side me. A very calm and still night here. The birds were singing their last before evening fell. The night air carried the gentle perfume of our Wattle and Gum trees out in blossom...another new Spring has arrived for us. The setting sun was a soft pink glow as the night clouds floated in. So peaceful and tranquil. But not so 11 long years ago. No one can ever forget that day forever etched in our minds and memories. What I would give to make this day the same for Sept 11th 2001....Sleep well our Aussies lost in the Towers we miss you. And to all those souls lost, from all lands on this earth...blessings to you and your loved ones...

There is a huge matrrix of lights that shine up into the sky when Yoko is there to turn it on. This is the view from the dock looking towards the area where the lights are located.
Somewhere in Iceland and its the most electricity used in that area :)
BtW, its not that little yellow looking thing, at the end of the road. Its the island across the water. The area is completely dominated by Yoko Ono's lights and you can also see it from google satellite images.

Your welcome. Yoko turns them on Oct. 9th of every year, John's birthday. So it's coming up again. It's streamed live and always a big event. Not sure what day or time that would be in Australia.
Oddly comforting to see two beams of light aimed skyward to represent what was lost.
And as well to see (finally) the new tower illuminated in the colors of the nation's flag.
Also comforting to NOT see some political comments that don't belong.

The last one is the best documentary I have found on YT about 9/11 with some pretty amazing footage.
I just heard Rev Wacko Sharpton say on a video that over 55,000 troops have died in Afganistan and Iraq. What?
Did he say "died" or "casualties" If he said casualties, then he may be right. That would included wounded. But if he said "died" then he is off by 10s of thousands.
To tell the truth, I'm not happy that there is even "ONE" (1) casualty lost over there, and for what? Many people I've spoken to over the past 10 years still do not know Iraqis and Afganistani were not involved in the 9/11 attack on the WTC, Pentagon. Rather, they were Saudi ( orchestrated by Osama bin Laden, a Saudi, and Royal family connection) and Yemeni.
The president used the occasion to show up his 'old man' who had pretty much put the 'chains' on The Iraqi President. That sort of vanity has cost this country too much. It's a sin that continues to pay us out in events such as this recent attack on US Embassies. We are established as a nation of out of control War Mongers with a blood lust for Arab/ Muslims whose oil we've been happy to drain away. Talk about POOR FOREIGN POLICY!!!!
The rhetoric I've heard from the Republican candidate for President sounds as inflamitory and provocative as the acts of our last Republican president. I say, if we can get out of this with some sincere apologies, "Say anything it takes". Another dead American, compounds the previous sins....
I might add as well: I understand the body count is affected by whether a US Soldier is identified as such or is a NATO trooper. We are only hearing the count of the first group and not those who are part of the NATO action. Many more or our men have died than we have been told......What would you imagine after 11 years of war? Look at the numbers from Viet Nam.... Much more like it.

Oh, you didn't know there were 3 buildings which collapsed? I wonder why not. Perhaps because it was not hit by a plane, yet it collapsed in exactly the same manner as the other two... coincidence?

Name one other steel-framed building in the WORLD that has collapsed from fires. Besides WTC 1 & 2.

Can you also explain how office fires concentrated in one corner of the building could make the entire building collapse in a uniform fashion at free fall speed, with a controled-demolition style buckle in middle?
Or explain why other buildings more damaged by debris didn't collapse? Oh wait, those buildings didn't store documents that can prove fraudulent things.

No offense achex, but you're a @!$%#ing retard. Name another steel framed building that had a 767 with 10,000 gallons of jet fuel on board crash into it. Oh wait, you can't. And really? Office fires concentrated in one corner? Apparently you haven't ever seen a video of the crashes. I'll fill you in.
The planes hit almost dead square, and parts of them penetrated through to the other side and continued for several blocks. The resulting fires from jet fuel and the estimated 60 tons of combustibles PER FLOOR contributed to a weakening of the steel supports. Buildings like that are designed to withstand static loads, not dynamic ones. The floors began to sag, as reported by the NYPD aviation units on scene, and then once one floor gave way, this thing called gravity took over. You don't seem to be familiar with this concept (do you not have it where you're from?) The floors below the ones that failed could no longer support the increased weight, and it became a chain reaction, also because of that pesky gravity thing.
A uniform fashion at free fall speed? Not sure what you're trying to say. Did you expect them to zig-zag down in slow motion? Or possibly explode Michael Bay style into a zillion pieces in super high speed all over Manhattan? They only fell straight down for the first few seconds. After that, stuff started tumbling over the sides, as the lateral support for the buildings was no longer present and the pile of debris had nowhere else to go. Large sections of the cores of the two buildings remained standing for almost 30 seconds after the initial collapse, which wouldn't have happened under your absurd theory.
Finally...other buildings more damaged by debris? Huh? They weren't on fire you jackass. That's why they didn't collapse. I'm sick of you @!$%#ing nitwits trying to tell everyone who watched these events unfold that what we saw didn't actually happen. Get a @!$%#ing life. There is no giant government cover-up here, just a bunch of murderous cowards using religion as an excuse to commit atrocities. The events of that day have been researched and investigated and validated beyond a shadow of a doubt. You're wrong. Get over it.

This is light pollution plain and simple. If I were a victim of a horrific terrorist attack the last thing I'd want to be memorialized with would be an energy wasting light beam that destroys the view of the night sky. Let's turn ALL of the lights down and let heaven's lights shine down on us for a change. We have moments of silence to mute audible noise for memorials, why not not treat darkness in the same way by reducing visual pollution?
