The quick answer is; because the media is reaching further into China. With more and more computers, people in China are reaching out to the rest of the world. Things that would normally not be seen outside of China have been making their way out since the Tiananmin Square incident.
The Communists are having more and more difficult time keeping, what we would consider normal everyday incidents, from making their way out of the country.
