Mexico's bullfighting ban stalls, fighters carry on

Edgard Garrido / Reuters — A legislative initiative to ban bullfighting in the country's capital has stalled since April due to a lack of consensus among the seven political parties. The initiative is a direct result of Catalonia's ban of the sport in 2010 launched last year by the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM) and supported by the country's animal rights groups.

Bullfighting is sheer torture for the bulls. What they do to the bulls before they even enter the ring is nothing but sheer torture and the grossest cruelty to animals. Thank goodness there are groups in Mexico City fighting to stop bull fighting. I hope they can be successful and bring all government factions together to recognize and acknowledge the cruelty involved.

Bull fighting is barbaric. It is unconscionable.

Geeze what would you expect from a 3rd world country. Animals who deal drugs, move into our comunities and do nothing but raise the crime rate. Yes thats our wonderrful neighbors to the south....beefe up the border patrols and shoot all the illegals coming here to sponge off our gov, have there babies here mess up our society. They don't have the sense to think how cruel bull fighting is, stick a few darts into a few illegals and chase them around ha ha,

"their", not "there". And "gored", not "goored". You need to be on top of your grammar if you're going to call people dumb asses ;)

You people obviously have no problem with the slaughter of millions of animals in the US to satisfy an insatiable appetite for McDonalds, KFC, Wendy's.

Robert, are you seriously comparing the methods of slaughtering livestock in the US to the hours of pain and agony those bulls suffer for that cruel and barbaric "sport"? What a short-sighted and ridiculous notion.

Went to a bull fight in Guadlajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Saw a horse get killed when the bull got under his protected mats and the bull tore out his intestines. Saw a bull get killed. Saw a bull jump over the railing and attack the crowd. Then I saw a matador get caught on the horns of the bull thrown in the air and then the bull went after him on the ground. At that point I believe, I saw everything that could get killed, horse, bull, man. I left.

Robert from Fort Myers Robert, dear boy, become a vegetarian and be happy. The reason the bulls are stuck by picadors with lances are to weaken the neck muscles and lower the head of the animal, so the matador can drive the sword into the back of the neck and drive the sword into the heart of the animal. Up until the minute the animal is shoved into the bullring, he leads an idyllic life as the animals are very expensive and breed for their ferocity.

The animals are specially breed for these qualities and large ranches have been established to breed these animals. They are pampered, fed exceedingly well and very well cared for.

All this said, especially the few minutes of anguish that they suffer, does not offset the cruelty and pain they do suffer in their last minutes alive
