Members of the Free Syrian Army use a catapult to launch a homemade bomb during clashes with pro-government soldiers in the city of Aleppo, on Oct. 15.

Reuters reports -- International peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi appealed to Iran to help arrange a ceasefire in Syria during the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha as rebels and government forces fought street by street and village by village on Monday.

Brahimi made the request in talks with Iranian leaders on Sunday in Tehran, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's closest regional ally in his campaign to crush a 19-month-old uprising. The veteran Algerian diplomat said the civil war in Syria was getting worse by the day and stressed the urgent need to stop the bloodshed, his spokesman said on Monday.

He suggested the truce be held during the Eid holiday, which starts around October 25 and lasts several days. It would "help create an environment that would allow a political process to develop." Read the full story.

That is a slingshot, not a catapult.

I am confused. AL CAIDA is calling for all muslims to support the rebels in Syria. We freedom loving nations are supporting the rebels in Syria. There seems to be a conflict of interest??????

I would guess they dont look peaceful..... because there AT WAR..Not because the Color of there skin..and as for freedom fighters...RONALD REGAN call the Afgan Freedom fighters ,the ones fighting The Soviet Union back in the eighties akin to. America's FOUNDING FATHERS...and Charly Wilson Via the CIA was arming them to the teeth ....the same group of FOUNDING FATHERS later flew airplanes into our BUILDINGS...SO PLEASE learn your history know the world around you...They are fighting for there survival..how we help them now and after there struggle is over has alot to do with how they will view America ..A case in point had AMerica remained engaged with the Afgan freedom fighters after the USSSR left...Well it's quite possible Taiban and Al Queda would have never became a reality and The Trade Center would still grace the New York sky line..But Americas Decision was to leave them to there own devices and withdraw all funding for things like schools roads and infrastructure...after the Soviets left...We made our choice then with that knowledge do we make the same stupid desicions now..More than likely we will because no one in this Nation REMEMBERS anything that happened more than three years ago..We dont teach anything like History anymore....we have this national ADD...

A better question did that little bomb they shot off bring down that huge building they show in ruin as the bottom photo...??? If it did then they are very effective siege machines...

OK then, how many problems can you see? Hmm, base of the stand not secured to the ground, just lay some cinder blocks down, and, oh, that didn't work so someone go stand on it...Pull it back now, oh, be careful you don't trip over that crap on the ground, but lets not actually pick any of it up...Way too many people standing around in the event something does go wrong...

Anyone have any question why the USA doesn't want to send any advanced weapons to this kind of rag tag group?

Do tell me, why is one of the guys in the last shot wearing a clean pink shirt and dress shoes rummaging through rubble? Was he on the way to the Disco to do some dancing?
