Why isn't anyone bashing Obama like they did Bush for LA??

Oh, that's right... it does take a few days for FEMA to get up and running after something like this, but the liberals just wanted to bash Bush for it...

Get a life, Bush didn't show at Katrina for almost a week, and then from the air, because he didn't want to be in the way!

What a hypocrite, both of you.

Remember that Louisiana had two local nitwits trying to run the show and were completely inept with evacuations and preparing for Katrina ...Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin. They kept FEMA out for several days.

There was help going to Katrina victims from the surrounding states, but it was weeks before the federal government got involved, and only until the city was being taken over by criminals...

Obama Administration has been involved since day 1.... Bush did not even stop his vacation for Katrina...

People forget that there are rules. In Katrina it was up to the GOVERNOR and MAYOR of NOLA to REQUEST Bush take action in regard to the government stepping in. They did NOT make that request immediately. A president cannot just send in this organization or that organization on a whim without the leadership of the state first making a request. I live close to the area and Bush came when it was determined he would not be in the way of relief efforts. It was determined he should fly over because obviously that was the easiest way into the area and the easiest way to survery the damage, Barksdale requested he fly over. he was crucified for doing so, but he was instructed to do by those here on the ground. The failures of Katrina should have been more on the shoulders of the mayor and governor of Louisiana, they failed their own people, not Bush. He took the blame, but ultimately the state is who failed in regard to Katrina.

The reason for the delays getting federal help to Katrina victims was the fact that the governor of LA and the mayor of NO would not let them come in. Contrary to what some would like to believe, the feds can not simply come in an take over, they must be invited in to help by the state and local authorities. If you want to blame anyone for the delays in getting help in NO blame the governor and the mayor, not Bush. He took a lot of flack for something he had no control over. This time, the federal help was requested right away and it is still taking time for them to actually get there. Some area still have not gotten any help, yet I do not see people or the news media jumping on Obama for it, when it actually is his administration's fault in this case. This is because the news media is in love with Obama and will not do anything to criticize him or jeopardize his reelection chances. The FEMA response so far has been somewhat anemic and no one is saying a word about it. Just ask the people on Staten Island what they think of the FEMA response so far and you will get an earful!!!

These people need to just calm down. I'm from FL and have been thru many a hurricane in my lifetime, and this is what happens afterward. I realize NJ, NY, ect... don't get hit often enough to remember these things, but haven't they got a clue from the last one to hit New Orleans, or the others in FL? You get no power, no water, no nothing, unless you're just outside the strike zone.

It's just a waiting game and it takes time to clean up! What the heck do they expect, FEMA to jump at their every whim and fix things in a jiffy?? Never going to happen, so chill out and relax. You'll get your water and electricity soon, and then the gas will come. You just have to wait it out.

I laugh hardily at people who blame a president for FEMA not responding. Do you realize how over populated we are? Are you expecting the government to borrow Santa's flying sled and drop supplies down your chimney?

If the delivery truck that runs your local routes every day can't make it, what makes you think FEMA or the National Guard will?

Sheeple like Back East really make me chuckle.

I moved from New Orleans to The North Shore of 'The Lake' the day before Katrina arrived. I was at least above the flood plane at that point. I sat up the entire night listening to " The Garland Robinett Show on WWL". Twice I heard the Governor speak on that show. She called for any and all assistance from the Federal Government. The hold up was that it required 'special decree' or something like that to get Federal Troops to come to help. There was no reason that FEMA could not have been in the city even before the storm hit..... except perhaps, that Mr Bush had placed an incompetent in the Directors chair of FEMA. All this garbage about The Governor not doing what she was supposed to do is either a lie to cover up the failure of Federal Agencies to do their job or, The Federal Agencies not caring about New Orleans.....?

Well, call me un-american, but these looters are nothing new in this country after any disaster. The low-lives that always loot are part of american culture. Not that other countries don't have looters, but we have descended into the gutter for years now.

After the tsunami in Japan, ordinary citizens returned to the government agency 78 million dollars in CASH!!!, found in the rubble, in safe boxes, in wallets, etc. That's realy honour, honesty and ethics of the highest caliber.

But then again, Japan has a very high level of ethics and honour. Why don't we?

Because our citizens carry guns to supposedly enforce that "ethics and honour". Funny how poorly that really works.

I think "we" do but our news agencies won't report on that. All "we" do is emphasize the negative because that's what makes the most sensational headlines. I don't know, but I feel I can safely surmise: Japanese looters probably do exist. Wonder how much money was NOT returned.

The good "we" do is boring and most of it goes unreported. And without the pedestal, you have to go looking for it to find it. And such disasters will bring out the best and worst of people. I think it's more a matter of people who say we are not being realistic if we have anything good to say for ourselves.

That's the catch 22 - for every good deed, you will find a bad one and for every bad one you will also find a good one. Depends on which you wish to emphasize. In your example, all Japanese people have a very high level of ethics and honor, all Americans do not.

      Whatever.

In any case, looters, indeed, need to be shot on sight.

Right on brother, and that is why we the people must form a militia when the local police/military can't protect us or our property.

In the end each of us is part of the government, and it is our responsibility to step in and help/protect one another. I saw a homeless ex conn help a police officer being attacked on the news last month and thought to myself, wow America is still kicking.

God bless and keep fighting for your rights and liberty!

Not un-American at all, in fact it's how we got much of this country to begin with.

Better question is why haven't we ever learned to stop?

Japan is certainly an exemplar for polite societal interaction, but we could never hold those standards as we'd feel infringed upon. We seem to carry some distorted interpretation of the constitution around in our heads that justifies our actions regardless of how ludicrous they may actually be. It's all relative to whatever you want to morph it into being.

Try thinking like a criminal. The TV won't do you any good.

But finding someone's last year tax return will give you their taxpayer identification numbers, their social security numbers, their spouse's and children's social security numbers, maybe even a bank account where a tax refund was to be deposited. Using that a looter can easily steal someone's identity.

An address book can give someone phone numbers to friends and family who would be likely to respond to a phone call that says 'your loved one is here in a hospital, can you send us money?' by actually sending money.

Someone having a box of checks still unused can give a looter access to the bank account and money; or they can write themselves checks against that account and thereby steal someone's money.

Someone who has a deceased parent or grandparent immigration papers could be stolen and sold on the street allowing an illegal criminal to blend in. Or the immigration paperwork from a legal immigrant who evacuated and forgot to take their immigration paperwork with them could have their paperwork looted and sold.

And then there's the material possessions: jewelry, old coins, antique or collector firearms, autographed sports memorabilia, guitar collection, etc.a lot of stuff gets left behind in an evacuation that other unscrupulous people would love to get their hands on for various ends.

I like the photo with the little yellow stickies--I saw English, French, and Russian. It kind of drove home the point that right now, it doesn't matter what language you speak (or write) what color you are, or where your ancestral heritage is--for this emergency.

This day, we are all human united in a natural disaster.

Let's try to remember that in the coming days as recovery pushes forward, as people try to rebuild and pick up the pieces of their lives. Let's not look at what color they are, what race they are, what language they speak, but what color their blood--and ours--is.

          Bounce, bounce

          Nothing's gonna keep me down

          Bonce, bounce

          Stand up, shout it out

          Bounce, bounce

I play hard, I play to win

          Count me out, count mein

          I'll be bouncing back again.

          --Bon Jovi, 'Bounce'

Bon Jovi put this song on their first album post 9-11 in tribute to those we lost. I pasted it here because it just seems appropriate.

We will rebuild. We will not be counted out. We will bounce back. We are America.

Completely untrue Truth. There are a great number of people that carry in NYS. Since you are obviously not from NY, you should know that most New Yorkers, meaning those that dont live in the CITY, consider themselves seperate from New York City. And it is no more difficult to get a gun here than most other states. Pistol permit may be a little more difficult, however, I can acquire a shotgun or rifle with little difficulty, maybe a few days waiting period.

Obama was on the ground in New York and New Jersey, meeting with the leaders and residents there and surveying the damage to initiate real federal help.

Meanwhile Romney was campaigning for himself from the safety of Iowa, and saying that one time he helped clean a football field is comparable to helping the states affected by Sandy.

Get a calendar so you get your time-line straight. Bush took 4 days to even show up to Katrina. Obama went back to the campaign from Sandy on Day 4.

Only showed up for the Photo Op's,Only the Politicians that love O are complimenting O,the rest of NY that were not included in O's Photo and news are Hungry cold thirsty scared ect.But nothing to see here, that's all propaganda right? Ster,

It's apparent most people who blame Bush for the delayed response to Katrina aren't aware that the local government officials have to ask the president for assistance. The failure was with Nagin and the Governor of LA. Bush got blamed for a lot of things he had NO control over. Also, I remember them saying on the news several times that the air force and the people on the ground told Bush he'd have to fly over as to not impede the progress on the ground. As soon as it was clear he was there. Some things may not have been perfect but to blame Bush for everything that went wrong with Katrina is just people wanted to play a blame game.

Jen-377162: You need to go back and review the details of the Katrina disaster. Bush went on air about how everything was fine as families were drowning. He had not a clue nor did he care to get one. Blaming on the local officials was the only way that Bush could recover any dignity but it was always just AN EXCUSE. Pundits on the GOP like to spin it but Bush was a failure as a leader during Katrina. Remember the NG standing on the bridge not allowing Orleans residents to pass and people dying on the bridge. Shame Shame Shame on Bush.

Obama was in contact in the leaders of the states in the bulls-eye before the storm even approached to free up resources, removing red tape to file for services working with the states organizers to have persons available to get to work immediately. The worse part is this was so big, the square foot area of catastrophic damage is so significant, it will take time for those boots on the ground to get to everyone and everyone wants to be in the front of that line.

CarringtonD --Heh I live just outside the NO area. The dumd a$$ governor and mayor were telling everyone that all was ok and no help was needed for several days after Katrina hit. Also the National Guard is a State run organization that can be mobilized by the Feds, supposidely for emergencies only. A friend of mine refused to reinlist in the LA NG after Katrina. He says the State controlled the guard during the training phase and for at least several days after Katrina hit. He's not sure about later since he was removed from the area after he had a leg broke when a convict tried to run him down with a stolen car.

The ones throwing eggs and debris need to consider that getting power through a rich part of town might speed up getting power themselves. I personally live out on the end of the power grid where I live. If the power goes out 5 miles away it doesn't do me any good to complain about not having any power since the damage that needs to be repaired is 5 miles away. Instead I have backup generators, extra fuel, and oil lamps. People had enough warning that this hurricane was coming and if they didn't plan ahead, it's their own d@mn fault.

Staten Island voted overwhelmingly conservative in the 2008 presidential election. So then why are they looking to FEMA for help? The conservative vote suggests smaller government, and the bigger push for self-reliance. So get a shovel, find food, fix your house, educate your children, and take care of the situation yourself. Your going against your vote for smaller government by waiting for FEMA to help.

In Mississippi when Katrina struck it was the people of Mississippi who built back their own community and they did so in just a few short years. People in New Orleans are still sitting around waiting on the government to come rebuild stuff FOR them.

Mississippi = predominantly rural. New Orleans = urban and a higher concentration of poverty. I'll let you figure out the rest...

I'll tell you how it worked. Church after church, company after company sent volunteers to New Orleans to help rebuild these people's homes. I know people who went. They picked up hammers and worked 8 or more hours a day while the people who lived there sat on the curb with a 40 ounce WATCHING strangers rebuilt their home. Sorry, urban or not you should know right from wrong and you should pitch in to rebuild your own home not just sit there and let others do it for you. No personal responsibility at all. Not to mention the fact that the volunteers had their cars broken into on a daily basis and tools stolen and they were there TO HELP. These people were stealing the volunteers tools! Rural versus Urban is not an excuse for being lazy and mean.

Bush signed a $10.5 billion relief package within four days of the hurricane, and ordered 7,200 active-duty troops to assist with relief efforts.

I don't think anyone expected the damage of Katrina to be as bad as it was... So they were unprepared.

The difference here is that O has been asked to intervene,he wrote a few checks and got the Hell out of there so he could go lie about Romney

Does this mean that Christie is now going to put the almighty Obama down a notch or two since a day or two ago he said Obama was on top of this?

                                                  HA.HA.HA.

This is the same mess as Katrina, yet a different President.

                                                  Mmmmm.

And what is up with a marathon (with large generators sitting doing nothing) in a city that is trying to get back on track?

I do not understand why the mayor and the governor did not tell everyone to stay out of the devastated areas until Monday and again when everyone knew this storm was coming (for days they knew) they did not get supplies, get out of town or get gas.

I distinctly remember Gov. Christie telling people, "Don't be stupid. Get the hell out." That's about as direct and specific as you can get. There will always be folks who just don't want to listen. There were mandatory evacuation areas, Staten Island being one of them, and still people stayed. I don't know why. But sometimes you really can't fix stupid.

Mabe you haven't heard the woman who lost her home or those that lost somebody,it's heartbreaking,And obviously only certain stations TV and Radio are telling the real stories, but that is the way it's been with the BO stations its really sad and a injustice to the American people.

Why is it that the good ole USA can get aid faster to foreign countries (who hate us by the way) than it does to get help to our own people!!! OUR citizens need help NOW. Get the National Guard in to assist for Christ sake!!!

I'm runnning in the marathon . I just hope nobody decides to shoot me. Your "16" ounce Mayor said it was ok to run and not to worry about the devastation, just run and have fun. I'll try to get some of the runners to donate their shoes to people affected by the storm...Maybe we can even get some hollywood types to run a telethon in a couple of weeks...What? You need help now....Sorry the Mayor's office is closed for the marathon. Come back on Monday and remember-> you are not allowed to drink more than 16 ounces at a time. What? You have nothing to drink? Sorry..The Mayor's office is closed for the marathon. Come back on Monday.

Frankly, I'm waiting to see how long it takes before everybody starts to blame Bush for Sandy....

I'm sure the media will start to compare Katrina with this and try to make Obama look good...But here's the truth...It's not the Presidents ineptness that make the recovery form these disaster slow, but the role of government services that is inherently inept.

Just ask the people in NY & NJ who they are waiting on? It aint the President.

He could rally the NGuard and other Gov resources he has stuffed with our Tax dollars,I would think we would get more for our money,But that's Big Gov and that's what O stands for

Some of you need to look at another issue that's cropping up. The Unions seems to be demanding that utility workers trying to help have been confronted by union workers demanding that they work under union rules. The utility workers are going home instead of bowing to the unions. Also, some ungrateful politicians up there are lambasting utility workers for not working fast enough to restore power. The workers are trying to work safely and quickly as they can but can't work any faster than they already are without risking their lives. Perhaps it's time for the east coast to freeze in the dark.

Federal Government let us down yet again. With so much warning they were not prepared. They take all of our tax dollars, spend them on vactions to foreign countries and let the citizens die. Shame on you Washington.
