A diver dressed as Santa Claus swims with a dolphin at Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Yokohama, Japan, Nov. 27, 2012. The underwater feeding session involving divers dressed as Santa will take place every day until Christmas.
I am frustrated people would use a Santa costume to feed such a lovely animal under water. The animal has no idea what the costume is related to. This is totally alien to its natural environment. Granted, being in that tank is alien to its natural environment. But almost always such animals are injured ones that have been rescued or raise as babies which for one reason or another, can't be returned to the wild.
These places are set up with the whole purpose of trying to teach children, adults about protecting and caring for animals in the wild. Throwing in a make believe commercial character with a beautiful dolphin which should be treated with the utmost respect, I think is a poor example. We should not be dumbing down to children with these lovely creatures. They are very intelligent and don't deserve their living place turned into something childish to appease humans for a holiday season. Does that teach children respect in the natural world around them?
this photo is an insult to anyone with a conscience. let the poor dolphin go free and stop this ridiculous spectacle.
