China tears down house in middle of highway after owner agrees to demolition

China Daily / Reuters

Excavators are used to demolish a house standing alone in the middle of a recently-built road in Wenling in China's Zhejiang province on Dec. 1, 2012.

By the Associated Press:

Authorities have demolished a five-story home that stood incongruously in the middle of a new main road and had become the latest symbol of resistance by Chinese homeowners against officials accused of offering unfair compensation.

Xiayangzhang village chief Chen Xuecai told The Associated Press the house was bulldozed Saturday after its owners, duck farmer Luo Baogen and his wife, agreed to accept compensation of 260,000 yuan ($41,000).  Full story.

It is amazing what people will agree to at gunpoint. Those Chinese, ever the human rights proponents. Remember, everytime you shop or Walmart or buy Chinese junk anywhere you are supporting China's human rights policies.

Don't kid yourself.

Everyone that has bought an iPhone or iPad criticizing Chinese made products are hypocites unwilling to give up their toys or refrain from buying any more of them. They are made in China as are many other major electronics brands such as Dell, Motorola, etc. It's the consumer here that's the problem, without demand there is no market for a unwanted product.

Unfreakin believable! This is a communist country and they built a road around a peasants house because he refused to sell at their price? And then to beat all, after he reconsidered and accepted their offer, with "HIS PERMISSION" They tore it down? Again, and this is a communist country? Why, here in good old "freedom" loving AmeriKKa they'd just condemn your property and seize it from you and that would be the end of it. Now, WTF is wrong with this picture?

Owner: But I can see Sarah Palin from my house.

    Gov't: Here's $41,000 usd for your house.

    Owner: Ok, I accept.

i hate to burst all you peoples bubbles on how wrong it is and how terrible it is that these people had to cave and accept unfair compensation, but in own beloved USA the gov. would never of allowed this to go as far as paving a road around the house, they would have made several offers with small increases each time and unless you were made of money to be able to afford millions in legal fees, the house would of been deemed unlivable one way or another and the home owner would have been reimbursed for far less than the original offer, it sucks but i seen it happen not but 20 mile from were I'm sitting right now, a well tended fully operating farm with a stubborn farmer. it makes my blood boil to see the gov. treat its people like this.

I am very surprised that China officials even Asked for this guys permisson, and to pay him besides? Wow, China is getting to be a Wimp. Now North Korea would have done something a lot different to this home owner I would bet.

This is propaganda to show the world that the Red Chinese are not a threat even to their own citizens, they are castrated peace niks and huddle with Jane Fonda in fields loving each other

If you think the US wont take your property think again. Then if you buy a piece of propriety they tax that property for what it can be sold for not what you bought it for. You are TAXED out of your affordable house by make it not affordable due only to the TAXED value. TEXAS had become a state of non affordable housing sole on what they tax property at. I guess the slum lords are happy. You have to live in a dump because you can afford the taxes on a decent place to live. Its like living back east in those dumps.

Morons in Red China. No wonder the news had it that the Red Chinese were finally able to figure out how to take off and land from an aircraft carrier--the same day the US announced the first AI takeoff and landing from an aircraft carrier without human intervention. We have toilets in the US and don't boil live cats either.

Eminent domain in the US under recent Supreme Court ruling may properly be applied to business interests--McDonalds can now reasonably and legally employ the state's emminent domain to take your house for the public good.

hmm? sounds like a secret back door ruling. im curious, do you have any more info on it?

Shopper try eminent domain, Findlaw has basic research. One of the justices just had his own house covered by his own ruling, hint hint

Red Chinese however don't need eminent domain because they are Communist and personal liberty is not a part of communism.

I am surprised the Chinese government just didn't take it to begin with. Now Luo will probably disappear for not doing what the government wanted.

Luo probably disappeared to the salt mines many years before the Ministry of Propaganda decided to put on this Red Chinese Performance Art piece to disinform the world

How can this house have 5 stories in first one pic, then only 4 stories in the other? Is this just some fancy photoshop stuff? Look at the pix.

Ever considerate of the people's rights, reasonable, and methodical, it is obvious

the authorities opted to bring down the structure one floor at a time, unlike the all

at once pancaking effect you would have seen with an unrestrained controlled

demolition; soon they will get the hang of how things are done on a world scale.

How funny, a house in the middle of a highway! How could they stand it?? But they had guts to stand up to their gov't. A homeowner couldn't get away with that in America because of eminant domain laws.

A Red Chinese Communist government has always welcomed private property and personal liberty interests. No one has every suffered any ill at the hands of the liberty loving Communist government-- this is sickening

Governments claim to own all of the land in the world. You own nothing. Your home does not belong to you. Ultimately even your living body is claimed as property by government.

Don't believe me? Don't pay your taxes. See how free you are. Government will seize your material and your spirit without hesitation. You know why they get away with it? A fearful, cowardly and dumbed down populace that actually believes government has universal dictatorial powers. The acceptance that you were born on a certain piece of land and thus must follow the directives of the mobsters that murdered to own that land is lunacy. Flag saluters, song singers, blasphemous pledge makers, unite!

If not for the extreme cartoon propaganda value of this Red Chinese Concept Art, the owner would have been flogged, sent to manual labor for 20 years and then executed.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA)
