Thousands of Africans attempt to reach Europe from Morocco every year by crossing the narrow straits, often in leaky boats, with many dying.

What does Jesus have to do with people violating the borders of another nation? Also Spain doesn't treat their illegals like kings either. Just recently they pulled the plug on illegal alien health benefits and are about to do a complete overhaul on their immigration programs to save money and make it more hostile to those who want to invade their country. This actually started several years ago when Al Queda blew up their trains.
But they didn't mind coming to south America hundreds of years ago and killing those people and stealing their land. What about the Europeans coming here and stealing the land and killing the natives off!
Send them back. Spain will become a craphole if it fills with these people who have turned their own country into a wasteland.
Rubbish. People don't mind globetrotting a little but most people would rather live happily in the country of their birth. You must not have travelled outside your country(county?) to make a statement like that.

The article should have said"Illegal aliens attempting to get to Europe to take Jobs or get on nations' welfare programs" You see Europe has unemployment problems just like the U.S. . Spain, Greece, France especially have these problems and the illegals go there for jobs, welfare , or to get into criminal activities.
You forget that this is something that is squeezed off from the NBC news høle. Do not expect truth. The kids that do this page don't get promoted for the truth.
I wouldn't have a problem in hiring these people. I would much hire someone who has shown the gumption to attempt somewhat like this than some surly Romney fan who thinks I owe him a living.
So yes, they are taking jobs? Stealing? Right. Stop complaining so much, better yourself, get a better attitude and you won't have to worry about low-level jobs being pulled out from under you.

I'm amazed at how many people in this country were born on third base and act like they hit a triple. Be grateful that you were not born in the kind of country that makes people desparate enough to risk their lives in order to improve it.
You mean be grateful that you weren't born in a country that sucks so bad, that instead of trying to improve it, you run away and attempt to illegally immigrate to a country that doesn't want you to begin with? So you can now be a social burden to them, instead of your native country? Yeah, got that.

Be grateful that you were born in a country that allows you to practice whatever religion you want and doesn't marginalize, ostracize and persecute you for what you believe.

Be grateful that you were born in a country with a government. Countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo have been invaded with rebel militias left after the African World War and the people are terrorized, women raped, children killed, raped or forcibly conscripted into the rebel armies.
Be grateful that you were born in a country with infrastructure that allowed you to learn what needed to be done to improve your country. Running water, refrigeration, clothing, schools, even decent paved roads can be something unheard of by many peoples in sub--Sahara Africa so how are you to improve your country when you can't even read and write because you don't have a school to teach you these things?
Cell phones are very common in African countries and other third world countries. The phones are typically older trade ins or discards from first world countries and are all prepaid as there is very little credit available. The local minutes are cheap and some people make a living selling minutes in roadside kiosks. Besides being able to communicate with others since there are no landlines available in a lot of the areas, many people can do their banking with them as they may be in a remote area with limited facilities. It is very common for folks to have them.
So they must have some money to buy them, right? After basic necessities like food and shelter, right? Or did I miss something?

To me, these people are more valuable than the people who cant earn an honest dollar to contribute to society, let alone get off the coutch to help themselves. Atleast these people stand for something, and that is, " FEEDOM IS WORTH DYING FOR."Thats how this nation was built, by "IMMAGRANTS". Their escape shows drive to contibute a society that will except them. We are not any different from these people. If we are going to use words like tucking tail and running, thats what we did when we left Europe. Why do people forget this? I know why, because these immigrants will out work anybody for food, and that scares a lot of Americans who forgot their place in this nation. Hats off to these immigrants, thier fight for freedom should be inspiring. It says a lot about people who bad mouth them.
Well said I have worked with men from Camaroon and Ivory Coast and they were smart hard workers.
Never heard complaints or bitching about the job. They had motivation to work hard and send money back to family.
One can admire their tenacity and courage for challenging the Strait of Gibraltar in search of a better life. It is far too easy to say to them "fix your own country" when their oppressors have all the money and guns. Liberty is an amazing thing. They risked all for something we take for granted.
At the same time, an unchecked flow of immigrants, illegal or otherwise, can lead to social disruption in the receiving country. Therefore such flows must be regulated and documented pursuant to law.
This is Spain's problem. Let them deal with it.
Too bad we don't really deal with our own problems with immigration right here in the US.
The cycle continues. Some countries overpopulate their carrying capacity. They do not practice responsible birth rate growth . Most of these people don't even understand the concept. Anyone who loves children would not want to bring them into the world if they could not support them properly. Unfortunately many of these poor countries either don't or don't want to get this ethics dilemma. Due to the overpopulation problem war or famine becomes a serious life threatening problem which encourages them to run for another richer country hoping for help. The countries offering help then become targets for immigration. Once immigrants are allowed to enter other countries most typically they begin a campaign of rapid reproduction birth growth and then begin to no longer ask but demand even more assistance. Anyone who says no is labeled a bigot racist.
your notion of love for children is good and very educated. these people are breeding because it's natural, because they can, because nature made them and because it's their retirement plan like it used to be in Europe a long time ago.
maybe they can admit the immigrants conditional on getting temporarily sterilized. but we are nearing Nazi territory. hard sell.
Save the environment Birth control has to be voluntary. That can only happen if education and contraceptives are available to both women and men. Those programs were stripped by Reagan and no party since then has made a major push to reinstate these type of programs in any major way.
One way to reduce population is to stop allowing immigration from these overpopulated countries into richer western countries. I know stopping immigration sounds harsh but immigration is a privilege not a right. It would send a clear message and if that message was accompanied with the most important means of helping them attain a sustainable population then success in reducing suffering in the world would be a real possibility.
I agree, voluntary of course as in: "you are welcome to my country if you get your tubes tied or a vasectomy, otherwise we'll spend the $1,000 on a plane ticket to were you came from". Those are reversible procedures and could be granted reversal after say 2, 5, 10 years, if they are moving along well as citizen or green card holder or whatever status they have, I don't know. I'm not talking the Nazi X-rayed to sterility forever. It's invasive and a tough issue, but tough times call for.....
Stopping immigration is not harsh, it's common sense. No country really likes too many of the "others". there is really just so much a country can assimilate in terms of foreigners, mostly during a bad economic time. Also what is the point of having too many foreigners that cannot be assimilated, are feared and/or hated by some of the locals and end up not living the "American Dream"?(the AD, that was a joke)
Even though the offer of immigration with stipulation of birth control could be a partial solution it probably would not fly. There would be people from other countries willing to do that just to get in but the bottom line is if you don't stop the problem at the source it will continue to grow. The source are the countries and cultures that have runaway birth growth rates. They must choose sustainable birth rate growth for themselves we can not do that for them. The west can offer education and contraceptives which would be in everyones best interest. One would ask the question why would the west strip these programs and never reinstate them? In my opinion it is due to an archaic growth model that encourages high birth rate growths for profit and the consumerism that goes with that model. War is an integral part in that consumerism model .The other problem is religion. Many people believe that it is their God given right to have as many children as they want. Religious dogma and money are the two deadly motives holding people back from living sustainably.

People are very naive by blaming the illegal immigrants for their problems. We are in debt by trillions with
China. Our jobs go to China that exports about 90 % of what we buy. In turn it only buys raw materials
to sell them back to us in finished products. Even just recently the government authorized Chinese people to work building bridges in US paying them millions. The illegals help support the small enterprises and keep the money in the country and have for centuries. When people won't be able to afford workers for the fields all the food will come from China, as is now happening with many canned food items and farmed fish, sold in all the stores. Even during the great depression, the farm workers on the West of USA were mainly illegals. The hate of all you illegal haters is only surpassed by your ignorance.
Part of my big heart goes to support these guys!!! The other half of my heart wants to sink their boat. I am an immigrant, legally, and I am treated like scum. I am an American who lives abroad, and it's not sexy or fun. My problems do not stem from my nationality, thankfully. Nor do my problems stem from my ethnicity, being mixed. But as an immigrant, I am just another number. Another nuisance. Another worry. Another mistake. My troubles are hardly bad, but they give me insight into how the United States treats foreigners, as well as to how other nations deal with immigration. Being pretty much a joke. AND the Welfare Assistance is complete Bull. The majority of citizens abuse their own system, cheat their own taxes, and blame the influx of immigrants. Those immigrants who are illegal, a very small percentage are wrenches in the system. The rest are sublime people. Everyone wants to survive. So it is not my place to be a ninny.

Cell phones? Anyone with a cell phone collects one free meal and transport to country of origin.
