Knovel.com reported on Monday that following a series of successful tests, the Chinese government has announced that the longest high-speed rail network in the world is scheduled to start taking passengers on December 26.
The link between Beijing and Guangzhou runs for 1,428 miles and is expected to cut rail travel time between the cities to less than ten hours, as compared to the twenty hours plus the journey currently takes. Trains will travel on the high-speed track at speeds of 186 m.p.h. The opening of the line is seen by some transport analysts as a commitment by the government to ensuring that engineering resources are deployed in a number of public projects, a matter of some importance as the Chinese middle class continues to evolve

I'll still take the USA over china. It's just a shame that rabid greed couldn't have given way to some altruism.Enough that those super rich of the past century couldn't see their way to building our infrastructure over lining their pockets at our expense
Americans should not fixate on China building their infrastructure. America should be getting off the fossil fuels and rebuilding our infrastructure toward that goal. Then we will be truly moving forward. Forget China.
Well -It is sad that U.S is not pursuing thr Rail option seriously. Except for the east coast where some Cities have good rail transportation-besides that we are stuck with only one option of taking Air. The Airplane industry has lobbied and got away with their domination. We would love to see more high Tech trains in the USA. We are technologically fare superior than any country on earth, but our politicians and the lobiest have cut us short of rail expansion in this Counntry. I would love to see USA having trains like bullet express in Japan or the TGV or Eurail like Europe operate in this Country, where we could do journey from NYC to LAX in a days time at a moderate price -which will give opportunity for many under middle class people to travel to different cities within the USA at a moderate price-unlike the Air Industry.
