Palestinians take part in a rally marking the 48th anniversary of the founding of the Fatah movement in Gaza City on Jan. 4, 2013.
Reuters reports — Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians joined a rare rally staged by President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah group in Gaza on Friday, as tensions ease with rival Hamas Islamists ruling the enclave since 2007.
A long hiatus in peace talks between Abbas's administration and Israel has narrowed ideological differences between the two main Palestinian factions. Solidarity has deepened since Israel's Gaza assault in November, after which hardline Hamas, though battered, declared victory.

Abbas remains based in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, but several of his senior advisers attended Friday's march in the Gaza Strip, festooned with yellow Fatah flags rather than the green Hamas colors that have dominated such events since Hamas fighters drove Fatah from the territory in 2007.

Egypt has long tried to broker Hamas-Fatah reconciliation, but past efforts have foundered over questions of power-sharing, control of weaponry, and to what extent Israel and other powers would accept a Palestinian administration including Hamas. Read the full story.

Only unity can help Palestinians with their problems with Israel. I hope there is a peaceful and speedy transition to a two state solution.
The problem is that the only thing that seems to ever bring Palestinians together is their desire to destroy Israel.
That, and perhaps celebrating the attacks of 9/11 by giving out candy in the streets and burning Israeli and American flags and chanting death to America...
Unfortunately every time there were real negotiations going on, or any signs of progress with the peace process, Hamas started blowing up buses and restaurants, or firing rockets into Israel. And after the Palestinians held their first elections, Hamas celebrated their victory by throwing Fatah members off of tall buildings in Gaza, or shooting them in the streets.
So sadly, I don't think that this rally is going to lead to any new chance for peace. And if it ever looks like there might be a real chance to move towards peace and an independent Palestinian state, the Palestinians will make sure to blow it up immediately.
But it is nice to see them getting along again. Too bad Hezbollah couldn't be there to celebrate with them, but they're too busy murdering innocent Syrians for Assad right now.
If the 2 really get together,it will be the final nail in the coffin for an independent Palestine state for a very long time.Hamas is on everyone´s terrorist list and they are international war criminals like their brothers hezbollah. The Arabs blew it in 1948 and continue to blow it by not accepting Israel and accepting their own state which was offered to them through partition of the British mandate. This would have represented their own historical and cultural reality alongside that of Israel´s.By going against world opinion, the U.N and international law in not accepting Israel ,they will be doomed. The real enemy of El Fahah and the PLA is hamas not Israel.Or do they need to have their noses rubbed into it like they did in 2007 when hamas murdered el fatah and threw their bodies out the window and put in a brutal criminal police state in Gaza. Hamas.like alquida.hezbollah.the brotherhood, talebans and all Islamic terrorist groups only make phony truces and then go in for the kill.Hamas must be eliminated not negotiated it.See you next time when hamas throws more PLA and el fatah members out the window!
Unfortunately, as long as Palestine has real estate, the Israelis will long to steal it with US made weaponry. There will only be lasting peace when the Palestinians have been pushed into the ocean. Settlements, anyone???
Is this message to Hamas? So much for unity. Fatah should just get on its knees in front of hamas and do what others kneelers do.
Notice how past efforts have foundered over certain questions, which do not include Hamas' eternal declaration to destroy Israel. If Fatah reconciles with Hamas, then any Palestinian government would have to accept its own sworn goal to wipe Israel off the map. If Hamas and Fatah join forces, there will be no one with whom the Israelis could negotiate. There will be no peace.
This should put a smile on our leaders face.
Palestinians deserve a home land.
Saudi Arabia has lots of land.
So let Mecca region go to Hamas with Mecca as capital and Medina region to Fatah with Medina as capital!
It will give Sunni House of Saud more followers, who can do bombings and hate marches at the drop of hat.
Israel will have breaks from suicide bombings, rocket attacks, lots of chest beatings and war drum beatings.
It is WIN, WIN for all.
Or better yet, given that the Israelis deserve a homeland, too, why not just declare Brooklyn as the Israeli homeland and move the Jews in Israel to Brooklyn? Then the Jews'll get a break from suicide bombings, the Palestinians can return to the land that had been in their families for generations, and there'll be peace! It is WIN, WIN for all.
I endorse your solution!!!! When do we start??? lol
Rob, You are a genious.
Look at the other benefits:
-US can finally earn the respect from ME countries, primarily Muslims
-World (Other than Banan republics) can see US as Leader, not Pretender
I have two more comments:
1- Can we remove Brooklyn from NY and reassign to NJ? Governer Christie has the balls to adjust any attitudes that may be required
2- Can we release Bernie madoff from prison and assign him to oversee financial aid to relocated Israelis?
Jay: Right away!
Good things should not wait.
You guys are all late to the party, the projects to relocate Jews somewhere out of the way of good Christians and Muslims had been tried a bout a dozen times in the past.
They never seem to work exactly as planned.
Good point, Eli!
Thanks for shining a bright light in all of this darkness!
davefromorange: Don't you think: those, who are in dark, always see darkness all around?
Wait for the day when many Islamic nations are wiped out of the map.
Saddam would have wiped out Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and some more.
If and when that happens, those "wiped out" Islamic nations will be replaced by a single caliphate at which point the entire civilized world will be subject to a state of total darkness!
This is a Family Feud and everyone else should stay out of it.
Was what was happening in Nazi Germany during the 1920's thru 1930's just a "Family Feud" that everyone else should have "stayed out of it" ?
Like Syria?
If the US stay out of the ME problems and stop telling Israel what to do, Israel will take care of itself and the Hamas, and we will no longer hear about these problems anymore.
If US stops financing and arming the zionist rogue state, the latter will not be in a postion to bully her neigbours with land grabbing and genocidal acts.
Israel deserves to its' own country as much as the rest of those fags.I mean tribes
israel has its own country through 1947 UN manddate and no one denies her right to exisst.
However this country is run by zionist despots who bend on territory expansion by grabbing neighbours land through war and aggression. In this process arab neighbours are sunjugated by the genocidal acts to oppression and inhumane treatment.
See the ever diminshing land of Palestine:

You notice that the map shows the Golan Heights as if they never been part of Syria, Gaza as if it never was a part of Egypt and West Bank as if it never was a part of Jordan.
To any one who is smarter than von Dorf, it should prove that the map has no credibility once or ever.
Did the Sryrians give independence to the residents of the Golan Heights prior to 1967?
Did the Egyptians give the Palestinians living in Gaza independence prior to 1967?
Did Jordan give independence to the Palestinians living in the West Bank or East Jerusalem prior to 1967?
Did the Ottoman Turks give independence to the residents of all the above prior to 1917?
If the Palestinians had asked any of those regimes for their independence during those times, the response they would have received from their fellow Muslims would most likely have been something like this:
Here's the good news: you can have your independent Palestinian state!
Now, here's the bad news: your Palestinian state is in heaven!
And out would come the machine guns!!!
My point being that those territories never were an independent Palestinian state to begin with, so what gives them the right to automatically claim it as "theirs" today???
Henrich von Dorf
Henrich,
Like all Nazis, your propaganda skills suck. Your quote (above) omits the starkest truth of all. Hamas and its terrorist allies deny Israel's right to exist. There will be no peace in the Middle East until everyone, including the crazy Muslims, acknowledge Israel's right to exist. Getting Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the Ayatollahs and now Fatah to acknowledge Israel's right to exist is job one. Solve that and you'll solve the rest.
Just for the record, the Israelis must not build anymore settlements in the West Bank. They have to stop. When Palestine becomes a nation, the Jews living in those settlements will become citizens of Palestine.....or they can do what the Palestinians did in 1947 when Israel became a nation, flee. Or, they can stay like some of the Palestinians did when Israel was created by the U.N. That would be interesting.
if only israel dismantles all the illegal settlements and returns to 1947 borders, it will solve the middle east problem.
Yes, the 1947 borders, which neighboring 7 Arab states loved so much that they declared war on Israel.
It sure would solve many problems for Hamas, Hezbollah and their supporters (like von Dorf) if Israel returned to 1947 borders and let all the terrorists move in closer for a better aim.
The return to the earlier border was also advocated by Obama by brushed off by the zionist despot nittyahoo who wants no peace with Palestinians and sabotages the peace process each and every time.
Zionist supporters (like eli100) are obvously blind to the truth.
Actually, I think Henrich von Dorf is the one who is blind to the truth!
My vote goes to Eli100!
No body gives a sh#t about your vote.
The truth hurts!
Then, von Dorf, you must be constantly in pain.
I am sure Obama would be also OK with Israel goes to 1947 borders. It would make him look like a peace maker for a couple years, and later when Hamas starts another war, it will be his successor's problem.
Nateniyahoo probably indeed doesn't want peace, but he is not the one who sets precondition on negotiations. It's PA who refuses to talk until after they are given everything they want, because they are afraid of Hamas much more than they want peace.
Hamas, on the other hand, stated their goal so clearly even von Dorf should be able to understand them "Palestinian state from sea to river". As long as there is Hamas there can be no peace, no matter who is in charge in Israel or in USA. That is the truth that hurts.
Just think if an asteroid about the size of a basketball hit there. That would be something.maybe a little smaller, volleyball
Maybe a little smaller...your brain!!!
I doubt he has one!
That being the case, when can Israel expect Iranean supplied missiles to be fired at their civilians from both Gaza and the Hamas controlled West Bank?
Note that the celebration was the anniversary of Fatah, NOT HAMAS! The Palestinians should get together and figure out that all they need to do to coexist with Israel is to stop firing rockets at them. The rockets are just like poking a sleeping bear with a sharp stick. Sooner or later they may draw blood, but the bear is going to retaliate in kind, but generally a couple orders of magnitude worse.
