God bless these guns

An Orthodox priest blesses rifles during a ceremony where new recruits receive their weapons at a military base of the Belarusian Interior Ministry in Minsk on Jan. 23. The traditional ceremony was attended by 325 Belarusian recruits and it is held a month after the recruits take their military oath.

It's Belarus, not Russia. Not the same country at all.

Your comment is like saying Texas and Arkansas are the same states.

Learn Geography, or maybe just read the article.

As to the guns being blessed, maybe that's a good thing. Reminds the soldiers that life is a precious gift from God and should not be taken lightly.

Rick 13-

I served my country with honor. I did it because it was a calling. I have seen and done some serious @!$%# that less than 1% of the citizens of this great country do at any given time. All my brothers and sisters in uniform have no problem with defending the rights of the American people. In fact we swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. That includes the 1st Amendment which also includes your right to write some of the stupidest @!$%# I could ever read on a thread such as this. But in order to defend your @!$%#ed up mentality that allows your feeble processing power to make you type the @!$%# you type, then that also includes the 2nd Amendment. I am not a gun nut, I am a gun owner. I am a law-abiding citizen. I am not a criminal.

So on behalf of all the men and women in uniform and those that served, you're welcome and @!$%# you very much.

I guess if you think it's your "God given" right to own guns, why not make it official? Maybe the NRA would be OK if we updated the law to require a gun blessing on every weapon sold that would bestow the maiximum of magical, benign goodwill and "hope" that the gun won't be used for violent purposes, without actually having an effect on its availability. Amen.

I don't know if it is possible that all of the gun lovers are completely stupid. Maybe they are but most likely they are just last century idiots who believe that the only way to solve problems is to shoot your way out of them. First of all, they are complete idiots, secondly they really believe gun ownership is some sort of God given right. If God made a mistake, it was to put gun powder in the hands of fools. And the fools have it.

            Tom-

We are not idiots. If criminals are out there that mean me harm, I would rather have a gun and not need it than need it and not have one. You have the right to self-defense. You could learn a martial art, you could carry a knife. But when the criminal approaches you with a gun, I ask you: Who's the idiot now?

While you are trying to process that with your feeble mind, take the time go @!$%# yourself, tool.

I wander if Pat Robertson held a similar ceremony on the guns he helped supply the Efrain Rios Montt in guatemala so he could kill thousands of native mayan people......

Why bless the guns? To ask God to make their bullets hit their targets? It certainly wouldn't be to ask God not to let their bearers shoot straight. This is the embarrassment of religious blessings of armies and weapons. Each side in an historical conflict would ask the same God to grant them victory. And there would be the priests or ministers performing the same silly rite.

Does the NRA have secret blessings for assault rifles? I wouldn't be surprised. They all blather about a "God-given" right to own weapons of mass destruction. Where did they get this right? Certainly not in the Bible, since there were no guns way back then, and from the Constitution? Heck, God isn't even mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. So what's the theological justification for this "God-given" right?

If this helps the religious in their endeavors, I certainly have no problem with it. Plenty of atheists are also gun owners, and it's not hurting them to let the religious practice their religion in this case.

this could apply to any profession -asking God to bless your actions/intents/equipment to do what is right...as in this case it could be to protect the God fearing and to kill your Godless enemy...

you know both the 49ers and Ravens asked God for a victory...so either God doesn't like the 49ers (gays etc or other reasons) they didn't pray as hard as the Ravens...or God could care less about one team or another...
