Emergency responders talk boat-to-boat next to the barge laden with scrap car hulks anchored near the northern shore of Commencement Bay, in Tacoma, Wash., Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.

Listing barge dumps scrap cars into Puget Sound

The Tacoma News Tribune reports:

A Canadian barge listing on Sunday appeared to dump some of the scrap metal cars it was carrying into the water near Browns Point in the Puget Sound as crews tried to stabilize it, according to the Washington State Department of Ecology.

DOE specialist Ron Holcomb said the cars reportedly slid off the barge as the private crews from Global Diving & Salvage pumped water out of a crack in the hull and patched the damage to the vessel. A slight oil sheen was visible around the boat after, he said. It’s not clear how many cars the barge lost.

Well I sure hope they go back down and get those used up pieces of man's technology and convenience from the water.Otherwise, nature is once more going to be paying the price for man's mistakes.Which man in the end, will also pay for. No excuse for walking, or more precisely, swimming away from this fine mess we have made! Those who caused must pay, and not let taxpayers foot the bill, but the owners who were moving the scrap metal.

Are those sea lions on the end of the barge? How long has it been anchored there for sea lions to take up residence? Was someone just hoping it would sink at night when nobody was watching?

Because it's impossible to think the sea lions could have hopped on board when the barge was at port?

Not a chance they want it to sink. Do you know what that scrap meatal is worth. I'am just amazed on how many cars they have on there. At 300.00 apiece they have some real money there.
